Members Speak Out: Best Preschool Books

by Staff

little girl readingPreschoolers like stories. They're curious and enjoy hearing about other kids' decisions and activities. They comfortably chat along with monsters, talking animals and other imaginary creatures. Big words, new experiences, tongue twisters, silliness -- preschoolers embrace it all! The best place to find these stories? In a book! We asked members which books their little ones love and beg to be read over and over.

Any of the "Spot" books, "Little Quack" books, "Goodnight Moon," anything by Dr. Suess. ~mom2robbie

My son LOVES "Goodnight Moon." Also he loves any of the Dr. Suess books as do I. ~myboys

Sandra Boynton! I enjoy reading her books as much as my daughter loves listening (or dancing) to them. She is so talented. I also love "The Napping House" by Audrey Wood. The illustrations are wonderful. "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" by Bill Martin was one of my favorites and my daughter's, too! She loves to make all the animal sounds as we go from page to page. ~kayla1981

We LOVE Mo Willems. Our goal is to have the entire Mo Willems library. We love the ones you mentioned, as well as the Elephant and Piggie series, and the Naked Mole Rat books. Awesome! Also, Robert Munsch books. We have almost all of them. So funny. Lastly, "I Spy." My son loved these from the age of two on. He loves finding items on the pages, and the older he gets, the smaller the items we make him find. ~yellow.rose.of.canada

We like "Guess How Much I love you?" and "Goodnight Moon" and so many others! ~carg0612

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar!" My babies loved to stick their fingers through the "holes" in the food (board book). Toddlers loved the story and were curious about the butterfly thing. One of my preschoolers discovered collage in Eric Carle's books. I loved the flow of words; almost music. "In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf..." ~Jules

I like "I'll Love You Forever." We also have read the books by Victoria Osteen and like those a lot. ~jenn0113

"The Eye Book" By Dr. Seuss, and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom." One of my favorites growing up was "Froggy Get's Dressed" By Jonathan London (I had my copy autographed by him when I was 8)! And "Tacky the Penguin" was my favorite book in kindergarten. ~kristie_b1

My daughter loves the touch and feel books "That's not my kitten, monster, puppy...)" by Watt and Wells. They are so cute! ~lovebuggy1
