What's crunchy on the outside; savory, moist and chewy on the inside?
These wonderful little appetizers that you can make ahead of time! They're so popular at our parties that I double the recipe and make one batch from hot sausage and one from maple sausage.
Leftovers make a perfect addition to spaghetti or other pasta dishes...although, we haven't had the opportunity to test it.
Prep time: 10 minutes | Total time: 25 minutes | Makes: 2 1/2 dozen
1 pound sausage
• 1 cup biscuit mix
• 1/2 pound shredded cheddar cheese
• 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
• 3 tablespoons finely chopped celery (substitute green peppers for a different taste)
• 1 teaspoon minced garlic or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Preheat oven to 375°. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Mix together well. Form into 1-inch balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
I suggest serving with a dipping sauce:
Fruity Dipping Sauce
Combine 1/2 cup softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup fruit-only raspberry jam.
Spicy Cheese Sauce
Shred 2 or 3 slices of cheddar cheese in a bowl. Add 3/4 cup shredded jack cheese and 1/2 cup fresh salsa. Microwave until cheese is melted. Serve warm.
