Here in the Gulf Coast I have read over and over that this is the poorest part of the Nation and yet we are the most Obese as well... but has anyone ever thought that perhaps it is because pasta... aka Mac-n-Cheese and the like. Are the cheapest in cost and easiest to make in a microwave and therefore quantity can be bought for many more meals then one meat product.
Those that get welfare or WIC etc. (No, I am not one of them. But I have assisted many who do.) Just can't afford the meat.
People/Organizations who do give away food often do not give away meat products because it (yet again) costs too much.
So perhaps its not all the sugar from junk food aka soda and candy (there is such a thing as diet soda & sugar free candy, its not too bad tasteing) that is causing this issue but the pure fact that people can't feed their families any better then what they can. With the big high light of the week to out and eat (aka the chance to get a meat product, often known as a hamburger) is at the fattiest place on earth... McD's because its the cheapest.
So now I challenge y'all (the nutritionists out there and others) to find a way to help the poorest people eat better for the same cost as eating pasta and yet it be just as nutritious and just as filling. Because they (the fat folks) are going to want to feel satisfied as they eat stuff that's not beans & not rice.
