  • Laughing Through the Chaos: Fishin' for Turds - My Maiden Voyage

Read All of Laughing Through Chaos

Well, I did it. I fished a turd out of the bath tub. Bare handed.

I was wishing I had one of these:

  • Baby Sling

    • Sling Rider in black toile

The Baby Sling Rider was an absolute necessity! My oldest son played football and I put my newborn in what we called "the bag". She would go right to sleep. At home, if she was fussy put her in and right out she'd go. Going to the grocery store - instead of carrying the car seat I put her in the sling and she'd sleep right through the whole shopping trip. It was comfortable to wear and came in black so it matched whatever I was wearing. It is sold at Walmart and Target and is much cheaper and sturdier then the ones you see in boutique stores. It is a must have!

  • Orbit Baby Stroller

    • bassinet

I would just like to say I haven't had my little one yet. But my best friend has a 4 month old, so I knew what I wanted when I was thinking baby gear.

I know it's early but with the crazy price tag I ran out and bought it ASAP before I could let common sense come into play. The orbit baby system is awesome and yes it costs a butt load of money but its way more practical and handy then a bugaboo, and the car seat is one of the safest on the market.

  • Chicco Cortina KeyFit

We bought the Chicco Cortina KeyFit Travel system and we love it! Our baby isn't even here yet, but so far it's been such a great product and worth the few extra dollars we paid. If you are shopping around and unsure of which travel system to purchase, seriously consider this one.

  • Bumbo Baby Sitter

    • Bumbo Baby Sitter

Bumbo Baby Sitter - great investment. Does require supervision!

No assembly required. Easy to clean! It is excellent for young 3 mo. - 4 year olds! My children use it to watch TV. I use it to help feed baby. It helps if you have a high chair and baby wobbles around. Very simple product, but for me it has been a life saver! Great investment!

    Cons:
Unless you are on the floor you can't leave the child alone in it. No seat belt or restraint. For that reason I give it a 5.

  • Car Seat Crying

Even if it's difficult to deal with, remember that you and your baby's safety are most important. Parents sometimes take a crying baby out of the car seat, which is extremely dangerous and makes it even more difficult for the baby to get used to riding in the car seat. Some parents make poor driving decisions when their babies are crying, which puts everyone in the car at risk. Either pull over and calm your baby down, or focus on your driving. Don't try to do both.

  • Evenflo Triumph Advance LX Convertible Car Seat

    • Evenflo Triumph Advance LX Convertible Car Seat

Convertible car seat by Evenflo - highly rated for ease of use, comfort, and safety!

I wouldn't use this with a newborn since I wouldn't be comfortable with the amount of recline (not that much).

For my newborn, I went with an actual infant seat. But I really like this seat a lot. The harness is easy to do/undo, but hard enough for little hands to have difficulty I think (mine's not old enough or quite strong enough to really try yet).

  • Baby Crib Options

A baby will sleep just about anywhere, so baby crib options are mostly based on style, personal taste and functionality. Here are some descriptions of options to accommodate a sleeping baby.

  • Forward Facing Car Seats

A child who is one year and 22 lbs (10kg) can turn to a forward facing position. A convertible seat is the preferable seat at this time although you can use a combination seat for this purpose.

  • The "Desert Island" Baby Gadget

What's the one baby gadget you would want if you were stranded on a desert island? For a lot of Moms, it would be a baby sling. A baby sling is a soft cloth carrier that is designed to be "worn" on the Mother's body in order to keep the baby close.

  • Choosing Age Appropriate Baby Toys

Toys do more than just keep babies entertained -- they're extremely important for their mental, physical, intellectual and social development. Toys are the tools that teach baby about their world.

  • Which Diapers Are Better for the Planet?

The largest and most objective study to date was carried out by the Environment Agency, the public body responsible for protecting the environment in England and Wales. The panel compared disposable diapers to home-laundered cloth diapers and commercially laundered cotton diapers in terms of impact on the environment.

  • Choosing the Right Toy

Research indicates that stimulating age-appropriate toys will help children to more fully develop their physical, cognitive and creative abilities. If you've browsed the aisles of any toy store lately you probably know that selecting the right toy can be a difficult undertaking.
