We begin this edition with news of a settlement in the TomKat divorce just weeks after Katie filed. This may be the fastest settlement in Hollywood divorce history.
While all parties are bound by a confidentiality agreement, "sources" say that Katie will have primary physical custody and Tom will have generous visitation rights. As for the big religion question, Suri will be exposed to Scientology a "little bit."
In "pushy mom" news, I think we can all pretty much agree that the moms, teachers and coaches on "Toddlers & Tiaras" and "Dance Moms" are pretty tough, no? The ultimate pushy stage moms, I’d say. But move over pageant and dance moms, there are new over-the-line mommies in town.
Last night saw the premiere of "Cheer Perfection." You’d better believe these girls – some as young as preschool age – need to be perfect. Forget broken fingers, sprains and sheer terror at the thought of performing some of the moves. Perform they must!
My personal most cringe-worthy moment was a young girl who had a stress fracture in her spine. Granted, the doctor said it was not life threatening of paralyzing, but when the mom found this out, did she go out for a celebratory treat? Nope! She drove her daughter straight out to the gym for cheerleading practice! The show must go on!
My second "OMG" moment was the little girl who was terrified of doing a back flip during try-outs but whose mother and coach kept yelling at her, "Do it! You won't make the squad if you don't!"
I don't know about you, but I didn't try out for cheerleading until 8th grade and our routines weren't nearly as daring. Nor do I remember my mom or coaches yelling at or pressuring me. My biggest issue was would I make varsity or junior varsity squad and how should I do my hair – braids or pony tails? Don't ask me what I decided because I don't remember! But I did wear blue mascara. Let's say it was because our colors were blue and not because I am old and that was what girls did then – that and frosted bubble gum lip gloss.
In "Kardashian" news, as we reported when the news broke, Kourtney Kardashian gave birth to daughter, Penelope Scotland on July 8th in Los Angeles. Kourtney and boyfriend Scott Disick are already parents to 2-year-old son, Mason Dash.
The never publicity shy matriarch of the family, Kris Jenner told E!, "Penelope is so cute. She looks just like Mason. She's so beautiful. We are so happy."
Finally, the week wouldn't be complete without the "Bachelorette" news. This week was hard to watch, I must admit, but I do it for you. Okay, I can't help myself now but it did start out as an altruistic gesture, my dear readers.
This week brought us the "romance suite" dates, which means Emily had the option of spending three nights in a row with the three different men in a row in a private suite. Um, can anyone say "eew?" Now, yours truly is certainly no prude but how does anyone not find this creepy?
What I also found odd was that the second guy turned her down, claiming that he felt it would be dishonorable to spend the night since their families would be watching the show...sure, we believe his sincerity. Emily responded that she was relieved and felt the same way. However, the prior night, she did ask the first guy to come to the suite. So I am confused, although admittedly, I don't know what went on behind closed doors. More worrisome still is that I gave it more than a moment’s thought. I can't wait for this show to end.
Until next week, my friends!
