This has been quite the week. I had to start progesterone supplements because my levels were only at 12.5 last week. They gave me 200 mgs to take once a day. It really scared me and I was so afraid that I was going to lose the baby.
Then things got worse last night -- I started getting this dull achy pain in my lower right groin. It wouldn't go away and I started asking every question I could about ectopic pregnancies. I called my doctor and she told me that if I was too scared to wait until Wednesday for my ultrasound, to go to the emergency room and let them check me out. So, being the worry-wort that I am, I went.
After seeing a teenager have a grand mal seizure right in front of me in the waiting room, I was called back to be examined. They ordered some blood tests and an ultrasound (Click here to see the ultrasound). The lady that did my ultrasound was really sweet. When we first started the abdominal U/S, I asked her if we would be able to see if I was having more than one baby. She said, "Don't say that! The last woman who said that ended up pregnant with twins!"
So, we proceeded with the ultrasound and only saw one sac (and we saw that my bladder was quite full too! laughs) So, after letting me empty my bladder, she started the transvaginal U/S. I couldn't see the screen at first. I looked at my husband and he had the funniest look on his face. I said to him, "What?" He replied, "Nothing." Then the U/S lady looked at me with tears in her eyes and shook her head and said to me the sweetest words I heard all evening, "Do twins run in your family?" I said, "Your joking!" She said, "Nope! look!" She turned the screen to me so I could see both little heartbeats fluttering away. There are two sacs and two babies!
It was the most beautiful moment! I started shaking and repeating, "oh my g-d, twins!" Dave got tears in his eyes and told me that he had seen it and that's why he looked at me funny. It was so neat. They both have very strong heartbeats and each measure 6 weeks, 1 day.
I am so excited, I can't see straight. I just KNEW it! The ER doc was really excited, too. He told me that in 26 years of emergency medicine, he has NEVER gotten to actually diagnose twins. He was just as excited as we were! It's just amazing how I knew. Women's intuition must not be a myth. I keep telling Dave, "I told you so!"
It has been such a wonderful night. I can't believe that G-d has blessed me twice in one pregnancy. It is such an awesome feeling. It's like an elite club -- Mothers of Twins. I am so excited to be joining it. My son told me I was pregnant. He also told me it was two babies, and that they were girls. He's gotten two out of three -- I sure hope he gets that third one right! I would just LOVE twins girls. That would complete my family perfectly.
But you know, two boys, or a boy and a girl would complete it too. Just the fact that I have been blessed with fraternal twins awes me. I can't wait to meet these wonderful babies!
