Michelle Duggar, of "19 and counting," has suffered a second trimester miscarriage on December 8, 2011.
This tragedy came on the heels of her announcing that she was expecting her 20th child on "The Today Show" last month.
This was her 21st pregnancy and the second which ended in a miscarriage. Her first miscarriage occurred years ago while she was on birth control pills. This led to the Duggars' leaving the decision about how many children to have, "up to God."
People Magazine reports that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were told that the baby had no heartbeat at an ultrasound where they were to find out the gender of their little one.
The night before, they had been talking about baby names with the rest of their large family. So when they had to go home to break the news, it was especially difficult. Michelle tells People Magazine,
"I feel like my heart broke telling my children. They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult. The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him."
Bob Duggar tells E! Online,
"Michelle is resting comfortably at home with the support of the rest of the family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, but ask for privacy during this difficult time."
We send our sympathies and best wishes to the entire Duggar family.
