Belly-casting and painting have been around for a long time. It seems that parents are getting more creative these days. Here's a new fad that's considered fun, quirky and a way to celebrate a pregnant woman's growing belly.
This fad has been around for a few years. It's recently been the center of a "debate" of sorts. More precisely, it's the parents' intentions in doing it that are in question.
What is this mystery fad? Photoshopping their baby's sonograms onto their bellies. Yes, you read that correctly.
These pictures are seen as art to some but to others, they are downright creepy.
According to the "Daily," "the site," and "STFU Parents" -- which is devoted to teasing parents about their parenting -- photoshopped sonograms are the new in thing to do. Sorry painted bellies, there's a new "sneech on the beach."
The site tells the Daily, "It's become the new painted belly. They're doing it because they're a little obsessive. There's something inherently narcissistic about taking the time to create this 'art'."
Family photographer Shelly Kuhn of NY, has Photoshopped clients' sonogram images onto their maternity shoots several times, and sees it as an artistic portrayal of pregnancy.
"Clients have asked me for it. Women love seeing what their children look like they're on their belly, they find it intriguing. I would love to do more of these. But there is a debate over whether it's morbid and disgusting or beautiful."
Morbid and disgusting might be a bit much but there's clearly a big divide between those who love the idea and those who hate it, without much middle ground.
What do you think about this trend? Do you know someone who has done it? Do you think it's fun or strange? Shout it out and let us know!
