Comments on On the road to baby

View blog

I'm currently 5 1/2 months pregnant with my 3rd child. I have had questionable issues in the past with my thyroid, but not tested for anything, as it was overlooked, and once my children have been born, my thyroid went back to normal.

Both my maternal grandmother and aunt have had thyroid issues, where both of them are on medication for life. My aunt could no longer conceive following her 1st birth.

Currently my TSH levels, and all my thyroid functions tests have come back normal. Just 2 years ago, after the birth of my 2nd child, my thyroid wasn't even palpable by my physician. However, now, apparently I have a "bulky" thyroid on my left side, have had an ultrasound, and am now going for a biopsy to determine if further investigation is needed.

Both my children were born early/on-time. However, they developed smaller than normal, with the largest one being only 6lbs, 11oz. This baby, with my current pregnancy, is also measuring smaller compared to how far along I am.

I totally understand your concerns with thyroid testing. It's scary to know such a small gland could cause so many issues with pregnancy. I really hope you overcome whatever issues you have, and go forward with a viable pregnancy and birth.

Best wishes.
