Mailed out the MAPS application today! Once they get it and process us, we'll be able to send in our dossier paperwork as it comes in. Plus, that's a load off my mind - one less thing to worry about! I also talked to my boss about getting my reference letter to me. She said she'd get that done ASAP. Apparently she's had it done, but she didn't know if I still needed it since I'm quitting the end of the month. DH said he hasn't heard from the hospital yet regarding our paperwork, so if they don't call him by tomorrow afternoon, I'll ask him to call them (again!). That's one thing I hate about this hospital on base, they are total slackers! They've lost important faxes in the past, and not processed medications on time. You really have to be on top of them, or you could very easily slip through the cracks.
I'm on my 7th page??? OMG!!! I am a journal-writing maniac!!! I'm back from class, and I don't feel so good. One thing I am not going to miss about being a preschool teacher is getting sick all the time!
The hospital never called DH, so if they haven't by tomorrow afternoon, I'm going to call them and ask them what's going on. I really want them to give us our stuff back -they're making me nervous!
Today has been a very eventful day! The daycare where I teach preschool was broken into. I got there at 8 and saw cops, and thought someone had gotten hurt! It turns out that the lady who opens at 6:00 AM came in and found the main room totally trashed. So she walked into our boss' office to make sure no one got any money, and turned on the light and the intruder was STILL in there!!!! She said she lost it, and started screaming at him to "Get the F out!" and he started screaming back, saying, "I am! I am!" Kind of humorous on retrospect, but I bet it was scary as heck then! She said he looked barely 17, and he was a "skinny white kid". Poor lady, I can't even imagine the shock she must've felt! It was really strange because he didn't steal any money, but he did go through the trash and he burned a pen with his lighter! I don't really know if he was high or drunk or what, but he obviously wasn't in his right mind. I am just glad everyone was okay and he didn't hurt the lady!!
The second thing that happened today was that one of my coworkers came in and announced that she's pregnant!! I am so happy for her because she's been trying 4 months now. I told her statistically this was most likely the month she'd be pregnant, and I was right! She's 6 weeks along, and just found out yesterday.
The third thing was that I found out we don't have to have DH's passport to send out our dossier to India!! This means our dossier will be ready 7 weeks ahead of schedule!!! The hospital called us back and said they'd have everything ready at the LATEST by Monday, but they were really going to try hard to have it done by Friday. Everything is going well! Knock on wood!
DH's mom sent us most of the stuff we needed from her (all except one document), and my boss is getting my reference letter to me this afternoon, so we are almost good to go!! Now the only thing is the medical certificates (if they haven't called me by close of business on Monday I am going to call on Tuesday and ask what the F is holding them up!! ), and our reference letters (which I'm not too concerned about). Yay!!! I am so excited to get all this moving. On Monday, DH and I are going to get our clearance letters notarized, so those will go with our dossier too. Oh! Almost forgot, but we need to take pictures of ourselves. I am so bad at pictures!! I always look really cheesy.
I had to get my car serviced on base today, so DH and I met up for a lunch date. We also went baby shopping - we went to the BX and each picked out an item of baby clothing. I got this cute little summer dress and DH got a pink, very girly onesie. It was so cute to see him walking around and looking for that "perfect" thing for our daughter's wardrobe! And it was even cuter to see this big guy in military BDU's pick out a little pink onesie! He's going to be such a great dad!
The Jeep stroller came!! We put it together and it looks so cute. DH was walking around with it, and he looked so adorable! We were both staring at it and beaming. It's our first major baby purchase.
And guess what I got tonight? A treadmill!! I want to start getting in serious shape for my career as a medic (I'm graduating on Tuesday, as long as I pass!) and I've wanted a treadmill for years now. So we went and got one today! Yay! I'm not heavy or anything, but I want to get really toned. Being a 120 lb girl among 180 lb guys can get intimidating!!
It appears that India might face some terror attacks on the Indian Independence Day, which is August 15th. I am worried for all the people there. And I know it's silly, but I am worried for my baby too. She probably is still in her mom's tummy, but still. I don't want her around all that negative energy and danger.
I am studying for my final on Tuesday. I am soooo nervous, and there is so much to do and know!! I just hope I pass.
I am so out of energy today, I wish I could just crash and sleep for hours and hours. *Yawn* Well, back to my books!
A post on our adoption boards inspired me to post these.
Please DO ask me:
- Where are you adopting from?
- How old will the baby be when you bring her home?
- Why did you choose adoption?
- Is adoption expensive?
- How does the Air Force handle adoptive leave for parents?
- Have you picked out a name?
Please DON'T ask me/say:
- Are you adopting from India because the babies there are cheaper?
- How much are you paying for your baby?
- Why don't you want to have your own?
- Don't worry, as soon as you adopt you'll get pregnant!
- Oh you have the easy path to a child - no labor pains!
- I really admire you for what you're doing.
- Are you infertile?
I'm totally stealing this idea from another journal on a different website, but it's just too cute not to replicate!
How to make sure you marry a DH like mine:
1. He has to hug you really, really hard, until you feel like your ribs are going to implode and your eyes are going to pop out of your head. When you complain he has to say, "I'm sorry!" and look genuinely chagrined.
2. He has to be a wonderful cook, and want to cook you spontaneous dinners for no apparent reason.
3. He has to LOVE life, and be happy just to be.
4. He has to have a silly sense of humor that makes you want to groan and laugh at the same time.
5. He needs to be able to make you laugh when you're grumpy, and shake you out of it when you're blue.
6. He should call you from work to tell you he misses you and wishes he could've taken you to work with him in his pocket.
7. He should be a whiz at anything scientific, or mechanical.
8. He should be completely uncondescending (is that a word?), totally non-judgemental and extremely practical.
9. He should be a master budget-maker, so you never have to worry about your finances.
10. He should respect you for every last bit of who you are, and he should be vocal about it.
Now all this won't guarantee you a DH like mine, but it'll give you a pretty good start.
(Feel free to steal this idea and customize it for your DH!)
You are now reading the posts of a state certified EMT!!!!! I passed my final last night!!! It's not all over though, I still have my national exam this Saturday. But I'm feeling a lot more confident about it because the stations are going to be the same as the final, so it's kind of like a review. PHEW!! I cannot tell you how glad I am!!!!
My adrenaline's been pumping hard today! Here's a repost from the adoption board:
OMG I am this close to losing it with the hospital staff on base!!!! Over two weeks ago, DH dropped off all our medical certificates at the hospital, with a letter specifically saying what we needed them to do (say that all our lab results came back okay and the doc did our physicals). They said they'd have it ready in a couple of days. Well, time ticks on and they don't call. So I call back, and it turns out that the doctor who did our physicals is getting transferred to another base. No worries, the nurse tells us, she'll get everything signed and notarized before she leaves. Well, we still don't hear anything back. So I call back and leave a message. Never get a call back. So I wait two days and call again. The nurse informs me in a laughing voice that they'd FORGOTTEN about our paperwork! Did the doctor get everything signed before she left? Yes, but she didn't get anything notarized!!! The notary of course, refuses to notarize the doctor's signature since she's gone, and the other doctors won't sign under her name because "they didn't perform the physicals." OKAY, so WTF are we supposed to do now??? DH is down there right now, kicking some ***. I am SO MAD.
Update: Thank you ladies for being just as mad as me about this!! It's all worked itself out, though. Phew!! DH went down there and him and the notary convinced one of the other doctors to resign everything so that we could have it. Thank GOD! I don't know what we would have done - everything would have taken so much longer if we'd had to redo it, especially getting an appt for a physical again! Aargh. I am just glad it's over and DH has the papers in his hand. This is why I hate the base hospital!!
