Hampton Inn called and I have an interview with them for this afternoon at 4. It's a relief because at least I know I have this if not the paramedic job! I am still holding out hope that they'll call me for an interview sometime within the next couple of months though. We shall see.
The job interview went great. He said that I'm definitely in the running but also said that I might be overqualified for the job because of my schooling. I hate that! So it's a toss up for now. I'll know at the end of the week. DH and I were discussing whether I really want to take the job anyway, because they want me to start on the crappiest shift, 4PM-12AM and work weekends and holidays. This is until I'm "not the new person" anymore. The good things for the job are the money (and at this point, it's almost all about the money), and the fact that the manager is a nice guy and will work with me about the adoption. I might just hold off on this job until I hear back from a couple more places. I don't know.
Lots has been going on! I got offered a job as an EMT!! I also got offered a position as an assistant manager at a Maurice's that's opening here, and they're going to pay for 1/2 my tuition!!!! I was so surprised by that offer!! Anyway, I work at my Preschool job until the end of September, and then I'll start the EMT job. At the end of October, I start Maurice's.
In adoption news... I just have two certificates to send out to get apostilled, and then we're done!! I haven't been posting on the boards much because so much has been going on. Also, I just felt like I needed to take a step back. Sometimes the wait becomes unbearable when you keep talking about it.
Oh, and another thing! A modelling agency wants to sign me on!! I've been recruited before, but I never thought much about it. Then I started to think about how great the extra money would be, and DH said to go for it. So I'm getting really toned and then I'll sign up with them. I'm working out 3x a week (treadmill and ball exercises and weights), and I've totally revamped my diet. It's not as hard as I thought - it actually feels good to be so healthy!!
Phew, sorry it's been a while (again!)! I think it's going to be like this for a while, until I really have stuff to write about. We've gotten pretty much all the paperwork done, but we're waiting until the end of October to send everything in (so we can be in a better position financially, since our wait is going to be so short). I feel really good about this decision! Now that we're pulling in more money, it's awesome that we can build up our savings so much more quickly.
And in other news... DH and I BD'd right around my ovulation time. It was about a week ago, so if I don't have my period by my birthday (the 29th), I'm going to test. He is so excited, he wants two at the same time (adoption+birth)!! I think I just want one for right now!! But of course, given our history, it's very unlikely that I'm pregnant. Doesn't disappoint me though. I am so glad I don't have to obsess about TTC anymore.
We have big plans for my birthday! DH is taking me out on a shopping spree, and we're eating lunch at my favorite restaurant, and then that night we're going to a comedy club with a bunch of our friends. Well, I'm off!
My birthday was awesome!! DH and I got away for the weekend. He took me on a shopping spree, and we had an awesome time at the comedy club with all our friends. My in-laws got me an IPod! They are so sweet. All in all, it was awesome. With my shopping spree I went and bought some baby things (of course!). We have a good bit of stuff now! We have a jumperoo, stroller, Baby Bjorn, bathtub and DH is making us a dresser. We're waiting on the crib, etc. for a little longer. Oh! We're almost done with all our paperwork! One more last thing has to trickle in from the SOS, but I'm not too worried about that. I'm also going to send out the I 600A next week.
The I600A is going to go out much earlier than planned! We got some extra moolah last night, so of course, I voted for putting it towards the adoption. I am also going to get fingerprinted (again!) on 10/13. They couldn't get me in any sooner. I wonder if that will suffice for the I600A biometrics, or if I'll have to get fingerprinted a third time! Maybe I'll call and ask them. It's such a pain though, because you have to wait for like a 1/2 hour to speak to a real person, and then they're really rude and harried because they have to deal with irate customers all day. Ah well, such is life.
I got some great news! Some parents heard about me being a good preschool teacher *blush*, so they came in and asked my boss if I could teach afternoon preschool as well as morning. She said she didn't think I wanted to teach full-time, but of course I said I did! So she's making plans to make me a full-time teacher! I am so excited, this is the best situation for us. I'll get to work full-time at a job I love, and keep great hours at the same time. It's perfect! I might have to drop the EMT thing though, and just do it as a volunteer thing, which is fine with me. Yay!!
Today was a busy, busy day!! I sent out the apostilles to the ID SOS on a whirlwind lunch break (and therefore forgot to send out one document, which I'll have to do tomorrow ). Then, as soon as I got home from work, I went and got my passport pictures taken and developed. Then I came back home and got together the HUGE packet that they need to give me a new passport (since it's been 9 years since mine was issued, I need a whole new one), and then I rushed to the Post Office 20 minutes before they closed and got a money order, and sent it all out! Phew! Needless to say, I am glad I am home! Tomorrow I'll mail out our I 600A and the one document I forgot to mail out today. And then it's just sit back and wait for a while! I'm glad I got it all done today though! That was really hanging over my head. Well, I guess I'll go "forage" for some food!
I'm on my lunch break, and guess what?? I sent in our I600A and that one document I forgot to yesterday! This means we are officially DONE with the paperwork part of things!!!! All we have left is for me to get my fingerprints done on the 13th, and then once those come back, MAPS will be able to send in our dossier and we'll get on the waiting list!!! So we should be on the list by the second or third week of November! Yay!!!!
DH and I set up the Jumperoo in the baby's room yesterday! It looks so adorable! We are such dorks, we turned it on so it played its Jumperoo music, and we were looking at each other all googly-eyed and saying, "Isn't that the best music ever?" DH was like, "I love all the baby sounds it makes!" I never would've thought when we first started dating that I would ever hear him say something like that! Impending parenthood sure does change men!
DH also gave me a scare yesterday. We used to have two accounts with our bank; one is our regular checking account and the other one used to be for my business when I owned it. Well, recently, I closed the business account down since we don't use it anymore. We still have the checks that went with it, and they are almost identical (except for the account number on the bottom) to the ones for our regular checking account. I use the checks from the regular checking account to send out all the $ we need for various adoption related forms. Well, last night DH asks me where my checkbook was, so he could make out a check to someone. I told him it was in my purse. He goes to get it and says, "Hey babe, these are the checks for our business account." I was quiet for a minute and then yelled out, "F**K!!!!!" Obviously, that meant that I had sent out checks from a closed bank account!! DH was like, "What are we going to do??" So I took the checkbook from him to look at it, and he was WRONG!! I had used the right checkbook!!! I almost killed him!!! I am just so relieved I didn't jack that up!!
Well, I am off to work! See ya!
