Been placed for a few weeks

I meant to get on here and update but couldn't find the time. Lol. I know some of my dear friends from the BBs were checking so see how things were going on occasion so here's the update!

Less than two weeks after we were certified to foster/adopt we were placed with a 2 day old baby girl. We fell in love with her instantly of course and will love her forever no matter what happens. Mom is struggling with mental illness that's pretty severe and has lost two other children previously though she still has contact with one of them...I think he's still in foster care as well but I'm not sure. She's a very nice woman who struggles mostly because of her illness and because of a complete lack of family support. Birth father is claiming to have nothing to do with it right now so we don't know how that will play out or if he's interested in being a part of baby girl's life if he does prove to be the father.

There is a petition in to get baby girl but we think it was put in by the person that birth mom is living with and if so it's unlikely to go through at court. So....it's very early, we've had baby girl for 3 weeks today so we don't know anything yet about the possibility of adopting though at times it seems promising. We try not to let ourselves think that too much though since things could change suddenly at any time. If we have the opportunity, we will do it though absolutely! This little girl has never known anyone but us and feels like ours...until we take her to visitation and then we're reminded that she's not. She's the best thing ever though and we love her so much! She's perfectly healthy and is growing like crazy and already sleeping in her own room! That's pretty much the only place she can sleep other than on one of us. Lol. I'll keep updating as things come up but for right now we're just trying to enjoy the time we're having with her and are hoping for the best for the future.

How wonderful! I had been wondering how you were doing. This is a great update to see. I hope things continue to go well. Baby girl is in good hands :)

Oh Leah! I'm so happy to read this, it brought tears to my eyes. I am praying that everything works out just perfectly for you, DH and that little baby girl!!!

Thank you ladies! It's been quite a whirlwind and one we never expected considering we were told our age range was too narrow and we weren't likely to get a child any time soon in that range at all and to end up with a newborn just shocked everyone. Everyone at DSS is still surprised by how it all worked out.

Birth mom went to court last week because she had disagreed with the stipulation of child abuse/neglect which is confusing because she didn't do anything because she was placed before that could happen, but I guess they just mean that it would have happened had they let her go home and it certainly would have in this situation. They said they weren't in court 5 minutes and the judge instantly said there was enough evidence to agree that she belongs in foster care so she's here at least until Jan 29th.

That's the court date that we're nervous as heck about...well me anyway. We find out that day if she's leaving us to go with the person who filed the petition. I'd say if she doesn't go with them she's more likely to be with us at least for the next 6 months unless someone else files a petition in the mean time. We were originally thinking it was the woman birth mom was living with which isn't allowed but now we're wondering if it's someone else. No one can tell us anything and our SW isn't even allowed to know since she's close to all of us now and they won't allow her to be a part of that process.

So...just hoping and praying that somehow things work out and we're the right people for her so that she can stay with us! I know they want to keep the kids in their birth families but there isn't much family involved in this situation and there hasn't been for a long time so there's very little support and we have TONS of it. I don't know if that'll matter to the judge so early in the case, or her bond with us if that will matter either but we're very much hoping it will work out. I'll update when I know more. We're just waiting very impatiently for court. Mom didn't show up for visitation last week and we have it again on Wednesday this week so I'm curious how that'll work out. In the meantime we're just hoping that things will work out and are asking everyone to pray for us and for baby girl! She's 6 weeks now and is smiling, cooing and I think she laughed today though I can't be sure. It was over too quick. Lol. I'll keep updates coming as we have them! Thanks for all the support!

:lurk: Leah, I hope you won't mind my chiming in. I just wanted you to know that I, too, am praying for you and your family! Please do continue to update as you are able. I can *hear* how grateful you are to be placed with this sweet little one. The thought came to mind that this child is also incredibly blessed to have you both giving her the best and most loved start possible! Far too many do not know that kind of security. (((HUGS)))

I have not come and checked up in far too long. Everything crossed, hoping and praying, that it all goes your way. It sounds like you all were meant to be in each others lives. I will def be watching for your updates :-)
