Homestudy

Hi ladies,

After journeying through secondary infertility, we have decided to start the adoption process. We are working with our local child services office. Currently we are on a waitlist for the PRIDE training and SAFE homestudy that are mandatory here in Ontario. Hopefully we will start everything by the fall. We have the option of speeding up the process by going to a private agency to complete those items but it is kind of expensive.

I am looking for any info you might have on what the homestudy process is going to look like. We have a list of the documents they require, but what kind of things do they ask you?? Does it really take months to complete??

We have a 2.5 year old daughter. So they recommended that we be matched with a child younger than she is. That was a bit of a relief.

Anyway, anything you can share will help set my mind at ease Smile

Cara - I am a mod on http://www.canadaadopts.com/

There is a recent thread on homestudies etc and someone shared this link Structured_Analysis_Family_Evaluation.pdf

We will not be going through the classes here for another year. Both DH and I changed jobs and you need to be "stable" for a year before you can start. As Alberta only takes about 3-4 months for the classes and homestudy to be complete (lot longer wait in Ontario) and their is no wait list for the classes we have to wait to put our application in.

If you have any questions just ask.
