Termination Hearing

We finally have our termination hearing scheduled. May 30 at 10 AM. The judge is going to confirm birth moms consent and hopefully birth dad will not fight any further and we can have him involuntarily stripped of his parental rights. If he does, we are told that both birth mom and birth dads mother will testify against him, but hopefully it will no come to that. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers that day.

Glad to have an update! I'll be thinking about you and your little Stella and will be praying that it goes well, and the nightmare of worry is over! That's my birthday so there's a sign that it'll go right. Smile Lol. Hoping that all goes very smoothly and she's officially yours very very soon!

Well, the birth dad wrote a letter last week saying he wants to be heard. So now we have to reschedule the court date. The have to work around the prisons schedule and have him let out for the day so he can attend, along with his court appointed lawyer. Our attorney seems optimistic, but of course cannot guarantee anything. S has only written one letter, way back in December saying that he wanted her to go to one of his friends who tried to smuggle drugs into the prison for him. And that is what the judge will look at... what type of "parent" he has been up to this point. He has never once contacted the agency, or hired an attorney, or wanted a visit with her, or wanted a photo of her. Also, he has no real plans to parent her when he is released, and his whole long list of priors is against him, a sex crime amount them. The new date will likely be late July or early August. We will not have an answer until then at the earliest, we are still very much in limbo. We are going ahead with life as if she will be staying with us, even though it is very hard not to be upset by this situation. Just ordered her a new pretty pink car seat, since she has just about outgrown her baby carrier. Also, planning a trip to the beach in Florida for Fourth of July week. Need to contact the airline and see what their policy is about infant seats. Most require a birth certificate with her name on it, which of course we do not have yet, for them to fly free. We may be forced to buy a ticket for her and bring along her vaccination records, which do have her name on it.

To go on a vacation, the social worker should give you her birth certificate so that you can fly, and then you give it back upon your return. Also, they need to write a letter allowing you to travel since they are the legal guardian and you will need proof that you have permission to take the child across state lines. At least that has been my experience when I have travelled with foster children.

Having a letter from the adoption agency is a great idea, I'll call today and see if they can do that for me.

But as for the birth certificate, it will not have the name we gave her, it will say BABY GIRL H on it and also have the birth parents names on it, not my husband and I. So it would do no good to have the original birth certificate. I think some airlines are ok with a set of vaccination records with the name on it, which I can pick up today from the pediatrician, if needed.

We have taken her across state lines once or twice before, and her brother too before his adoption was finalized, but we didn't fly with him until he was about 13 months old and the adoption had been finalized for several months.
