I am new to this site, stumbled upon it while looking for some answers.
I am 10 weeks pregnant today with my 1st baby and so this is all new to me. I've been taking all the required vitamins and have noticed that within the last 2 weeks my normal bowel movements are no longer normal. Along with my vitamins I started taking Fiber Choice tablets along with adding tons of fiber in my diet but am still having difficulty actually going to the bathroom. I was told by my OB the it is normal for your body to slow down and concentrate on the baby growing inside. However, I still find it strange that when I finally do go to the bathroom that it is not as much as it should be. I drink more than 8 glasses of water per day, exercise every other day and even cut out bread out of my diet. Is anyone else having this same problem? Any suggestions on how to become "regular" again? I never though i would go through this so early in my pregnancy.
I was also going to mention colace...
AND< Miralax worked wonders for me post-partum. But I do not know if it is safe for pregnancy.. may be worth asking your doc as it is both a laxative and a softener and works very gently on your system.
It's probably your prenatal vitamins, as the ones that my OB prescribed to me did the very same thing. I eventually started buying my prenatal vitamins over the counter from wal mart. Not only were they $20 cheaper (and I even have insurance!) but they didn't back me up anymore!

Thank you everyone for the great advice. My OB and I figured out that it was the prenatal vitamins that i was taking. They had way to much iron in them. I am feeling much better now. I am just patiently waiting for the baby's arrival on February 20th, 2012![]()
