Bonita, I'm so sorry. I don't think you're unreasonable in wanting a heads-up on traveling. My dh tends to be that way as well. It's one thing grabbing clothes and stuff for yourself. Quite another preparing and arranging clothes, snacks and entertainment for a car trip.

Kristi, having had a couple, like four, little girls, I probably have a realistic -- although it could be warped -- picture of what they can dream up. My oldest and her cousin were 10 months apart. The things those two got into were quite creative. It started as soon as they both could walk lol and STILL they have some adventures although now a child or two tags along. lol

Question for you all (I'm working on an article and would love to include your feedback). Costumes, decorations, entertainment: Halloween -- how scary is too scary? Some of the replies I've had:

"As mom to little boys after having girls I thought my world would turn into lots of scary looking characters. But really that is NOT the case. They are just as scared of monsters and villains as the little girls."

"I guess anything that is super realistic as far as severed limbs or heads or whatever, or anything really satanic. I personally love Halloween, and I decorate the house and windows with all sorts of spooky things, but I keep it age appropriate for my little guys. I try to keep it more fun and keep the "evil" stuff out of it...if that makes sense."

"I love Halloween. For scary, I know Lily at 4 gets scared of somethings easily (like Monster's Inc) and Brodie does better though I always explain to him how things are fake when they look real. They both can't wait to see Paranorman but I'm not always a good judge on what they can tolerate and would think that could be too scary since I don't think they're quite ready for Monster House nor Coraline. I don't want them to see things they can never get out of their heads so I always err on the side of caution. Now when it comes to Halloween decorations, I did buy some creepy head stones that change as you look at them but they seem OK with it and understand Halloween decorations are all fake."

We got DD2 bedroom put back together. We just have a couple things to hang on her wall and put all her "stuff" back in. It looks really sharp. I joked with DH that since I never got to decorate baby nurseries I get to do tween/teen rooms. We have DD1's marching band contest today. The parade is 1 hr 45 min and our school band is 8th or 9th. Not sure how long we'll stay. DD2 is spending the night at a friend's house tonight so I think we'll take the other two out for dinner. I need to get out for a run this morning since The Color Run is in 1 week.

Today is National Coffee Day today!!

We found out that we are going to go to the funeral and all the details. It will be an up and back trip.

Glad that you were able to do a bedroom even if it was not a nursery.

Bonita...Glad you know the details and are able to be there for the funeral.

The marching band parade went well. They sounded really good and was probably one of the better MS marching bands. MS band got 1st in their division. There were only two schools in that division. HS got 2nd and the other school got 1st. It was so hot though. We were sitting right in the sun. The parade lasted 2 hrs and we got there about 45 min early to get a spot. The street was already packed. There was about 20 marching bands and tons of other parade entrys. I swear we came home with 15 lbs of candy. I'm actually thinking of saving it and handing it out at Halloween. It's silly to buy candy when we have so much at home. I think DD2 is getting laryngitis. She's loosing her voice. She says she feels fine and is acting fine.

I was in marching band for all of middle and high school. I played the flute then piccalo.

I just noticed that my spell check is still off. Not sure what I did to turn it off, but I need it back. My spelling is terrible! DD1 on the other hand, is 7 years old and a better speller than me. She is like her Daddy in that she only needs to look at a word one time to know how it is spelled for the rest of her life. Will never forget her looking at my shopping list and telling me what was spelled wrong.

She will be in a homeschool spelling bee in a few months. Should be fun.

I didn't realize there was a spell check on here. DH is the bad speller in our family. He jokes that our kids are better spellers than him and it's the truth. DD2 is a really good speller. I've always been a good speller. DH studies spelling words with the kids because he's really good at making mnemonics for them to remember how to spell the word. The word that I do have problems with is "weird." It just came up on a spelling list and DH said "it's weird that 'i' doesn't come before 'e' in this word." So now I remember that one.

Here are before/after pics of DD2 bedroom makeover. I have one more wall hanging I'm going to make and hang above her bookshelf. I need to find a frame first. I wish she could keep it this uncluttered forever. I need to get all her stuff back in there still. FYI...never paint a room this color! It took 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint. I'm glad I didn't know that going into it because I wouldn't have picked out this color. I'm glad we did it though!
