Menstrual Cycle

I worked out last night that my MC has been a whopping 38 days the past couple of months. Would you say this is NOT normal??

Depends. Are you tracking when you ovulate? If so, is your luteal phase (time from ovulation to the start of the next cycle) consistent from one cycle to the next?

There's a lot of range to "normal", and not many people fall into the textbook 28 day/ovulate on day 14 cycle!

My cycle is generally 42 days, but honestly, with pregnancies/breastfeeding I haven't had one in a long time. I would say yours is not normal for you if things have changed from what they were in the past. I have always had long cycles, since I first got my period. I don't believe anything is wrong with me, I've never had trouble getting pregnant. It does get annoying though, having to wait so long to ovulate.

I don't track anything.... I've never HAD to. AF always came every 4 weeks, give or take a few days. I had AF around Aug 26th, then nothing in Sept (I've NEVER gone a month with no AF) then she arrived Oct 4th. Working out my MC meant AF was due Nov 11th and although I'm getting the odd stain when I wipe, it's not full blown and I am starting to worry!

Kristi,

There are several factors that can cause these type of changes in your cycle. Stress, illness, medication, changes in exercise routine (generally excessive), dietary changes or weight fluctuation (up / down) can throw things off. Other medical reasons may be responsible. I imagine you ruled out pregnancy -- including chemical? Did you ever test last month when you were late? Your thyroid could be acting up... Bottom line is that there are a number of possibilities. Since this is the second month of not normal, my best advice would be for you to give a call to your medical caregiver (ob/gyn or midwife) to discuss and possibly be seen.

(((((HUGS)))) Let us know how you are doing!

Do you think I should leave it another month and see what happens?

Also, I started with the pink staining on Monday and I actually came on fully yesterday (typical after I post!), so which would I class as the first day of my menstrual cycle?

Hey you Smile

Yes! Go to the doctors!
If your cycle returns to normal than yay... But I would see what's going on if I were you.
Probably something simple but better safe than sorry xxx

When I was TTC Weston and charting my cycles ranged from 23 to 35 days in length, but I knew that my luteal phase was always 14 days. Since all of my hormone levels had already checked out fine, my OB said not to worry about it because we knew my luteal phase was long enough to sustain a pregnancy. If you aren't sure when you ovulated, or if you haven't had blood work done recently, then with two back-to-back cycles that long that is not normal for you, I would definitely see your doctor.

And yes, you count CD1 as the day you get a flow of bright red blood. A flow of pinkish stuff doesn't count, and bright red spotting doesn't count.

Thank you ladies for your advice/support.

I've decided I am going to wait and see what happens with my next cycle and if it's the same, then I will go and see the Doc.
