I hope someone can help with this.
I'm trying to get my mom health insurance through the Fed insurance for her state. She has numerous pre existing conditions and I am trying to purchase the plan for those with pre existings. The issue is that I need a letter of denial from an insurance company, denying coverage of her pre existing conditions. They all tell her they are not going to cover them, yet they are not willing to give her a letter. I suppose they know they are not going to earn any money from her and she's just going to them for the sole purpose of getting evidence to denial of the pre existing conditions - which is true. But she still needs that letter in order to finish the paperwork for the other insurance!
Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?
(also, can someone tell me if there is a such thing as just a simple family hospital insurance instead of the monthly prem plus deductible deal. For us it'd be cheaper to just have insurance for major things that could happen that we'd have to be hospitalized for or receive long term treatment. any ideas?)
There are a couple of ladies on the Debate Board who are in the insurance industry. Perhaps post an "OT and XP" there with a link to this thread so that one or more of them might see it?

I'm not familiar with pre existing conditions as Mass. does not allow denial of coverage for pre existing conditions.
Are you looking for a letter of denial for the coverage of her conditions from private insurance or are you looking for a letter to say she had current coverage and it is ending?
Hi Jessica, from private insurance. She doesn't have current coverage and it's been a very long time since she's had coverage at all.
This is the insurance I want her to get:
PCIP Florida insurance
Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan: Florida | HealthCare.gov
I'm sorry I'm not familiar with that.
Although, if this wasn't a clear example of why NHCR is necessary I don't know what is.
thanks Jessica! She's still working on it, so hopefully something will come through.
From what I read on the web site she needed to have a pre-existing condition OR a letter of refusal.
Once again I am reminded how lucky I am to live in Canada!

I know, but they ask for proof of denial of the preexisting condition(s). I do hope healthcare improves.
I worked in Insurance in Canada so it's not 100% the same, but I think you need to check off option 2 ("I've been offered individual health coverage with an exclusionary rider") and not option 1 ("I've been denied health coverage").
What you need to do is have your mother go to an insurance broker (which I presume you have there) and apply for health insurance. Get the offer in writting (not a denial, just the offer of coverage). I presume they do quotes or whatnot there as well? The quote should have riders, or sometimes called exclusions, for the pre-existing conditions listed. That would be sufficient proof for Option 2.
I don't know, but you may be able to get the same thing online. Can you apply for health insurance online in the US? Wouldn't you be able to get a proof of denial or an exclusionary offer that way as well?
I worked in Auto insurance so it's totally not the same. I know in Auto insurance you can get denials and quotes online or from a broker without a problem easy.
