Wanted to say hi...I'm new to this site & forum

Just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully make some friends to talk and discuss matters with. My husband and I recently started trying to conceive. Not sure if I'm pregnant or not. I've promised myself that I will not take a pregnancy test until next Wednesday or later. I'm taking the GRE test next Tuesday to hopefully get into the PhD program. I'm worried how I will handle getting my degree while pregnant.

Speaking of....Question out there to everyone. (Just trying to get perspective.) I am thinking of taking a class starting at the end of August and doesnt end til first wk of Dec. If I get pregnant, I'm worried I wont be able to handle it. I dont know when I'll get pregnant and how tired etc I'll be after doing a full day of work to go to class and do the work plus studying. Please let me know what you think.

Another question....how accurate are pregnancy tests and how soon after do they work? Can you tell that this kid will be the first haha!

Hello and Welcome to P.Org!

I'm Kristi Smile

Good luck with trying for your first baby, how exciting! I was full of questions myself when I got pregnant with my daughter and the ladies here were definintely my back bone the whole way through.

Good on you for wanting to study, although I can't really comment on how you would be feeling between Aug-Dec. Every woman/pregnancy is different, some women can't stay awake and some are full of energy so I guess you will have to wait and see.

When was your last period?

My last period was the first week of July. The 1st through 6th. I read this morning that the pregnancy tests dont typically work until a week after your missed period. I am going on vacation and obviously dont want to drink if I'm pregnant. I was going to take a test before leaving on the 27th to make sure it's ok for me to indulge on vacation. What do you think?

Hi and Welcome!!

I have found PG.org to be my saving grace since before I started trying to conceive. Since getting pregnant it has been great to chat to ladies who have "been there , done that" as well as other first timers and just in general are in the same boat as me.

The pregnancy tests nowadays are super-sensitive. I got my first very faint positive on a cheap Wondfo brand test at 7dpo (days post ovulation) which for me was a whole week before my period was due. You can see what it (and the subsequent tests) looked like here: Pretty Progression (I was a little obssessed) If you're willing to spend more the most reliable home test is the First Response Early Result (FRER) test. They're super sensitive and very rarely give a "hard to interpret" line.

Everyone is different tho. Some people don't get their positive until long after their missed period. It all depends on how high your Hcg levels are.

How long is your cycle usually?

:goodluck: and Keep us posted!
