anyone with a Leappad

trying to figure out what apps/games/books to get with the download cards i have....the ultrabooks look awesome but are so expensive...but really they have the books and activities and games so probably well worth it!!!

so those of you that already are using the leappad.....what games/books/apps do your lils have....do they like them???????

thanks

I think stephanie had touched on it a lil on the other thread already!!!

ETA: just thought of another question to ask the leappad vererans.......do you have to have an 'app card' to get things off of the store or does it give you the option to put in creditcard info?????

ah,....i wasn't sure if you got it cause it was before the whole site went back up or whatever

i didn't even think...i should post it here...but anyone who still has their's in the box.....take it out and set it up when you have some time....took me a while to get alyssa's connected...had to reconfigure my security settings....it was pissing me off but then once i realized the problem it was easily fixed...they give you pdf's for whatever security software you have and talk you through it...but it took me an extra hour to figure it all out so make sure you alot yourself the time!!!!

i still have to do tyler's!!!! he's gonna be a little young for it all but atleast they won't be fighting over hers...lol....that's why i want to hear who's got what app and whatnot

i got the tinkerbell cartridge (seems a little old for lyssa - algebra..ummm..yea) but it came with the bundle.....and i got tyler the cars cartridge just because it has a racing game on it ...lol...

so thinking about getting either the tinkerbell or cinderella ultra book and the thomas ultra book for tyler......don't know yet though...lol
i'll probably get alyssa the cooking one...forget what it's called...she like's the kailan game on nick jr.com and it's similar

i'm kind of thinking cinderella since she'll already have tinkerbell but the tinkerbell carteridge seems a little advanced for her....and i was thinking the cars ultrabook looks cool but again i already have the cartridge that's why maybe the thomas ultrabook....

i wish they had a toy story ultra book then they both would like it....

ahhh...decisions decisions...lol...

watch i'm putting this much energy and thought into it and it will probably turn out to be a flop ROFL

i think i defenitely will need to get stretchy monkey too....looks cute and ty should be able to get some use out of it too

:lurk:

Both my 5 year old and 3 year old (just turned 3) have one. The 5 year old definatly gets more out of it but the 3 year old still loves it. I agree to set it up first.

As for apps/games. Mr. Pencil is great for about 4years as it teaches them to draw shapes and letters. my 5 year old has mastered it but still has fun with the adventures, the 3 year odl has trouble keeping the stylus down but I"m sure that wont last long. For games we have toy story, cars, tangled, mr pencil and pet pals. (gotta love craigslist got 3 games for $10 each) My 3 year old loves the pet pals app the system comes with so she got the game from her aunt and uncle for an early christmas gift and loves to dress, and play with the pet, the math I'm sure will come later Wink

We downloaded roly poly that one is fun, teaches spelling but is easy for the little ones with mroe letter recognition then spelling. Strechy monkey is fun and the sugar bugs game too. We got alphabet stew free, they send you the code once you sign up I think the code is the same so if you didn't get it PM me and I'll see if I still have mine. Its a little older too, but its free so why not Wink . We have the mickey studio (more for the 5 year old) We have a bunch of the videos. The letter factory and letters ahoy are great for 3-4 year olds, very cute and actually teaches them things.

For the story app so far we only the pet pals one. ITs sort of a choose your own adventure and the culprit changes each story so the kids get to figure out who did it. (based on tag shape, hair colour ect) the 3 year old likes to hear the story and do the activities, the 5 year old really gets into it.

Not sure if you know already but once you buy an app you can put it on two leappads under your account, so you dont' have to pay twice which is nice. If you dont have two you can always do it with a friend, just need the same log in and password Wink

ETA You can also buy the games online instead of the cartridges which is good since they can't get lost and you can put them on both systems at the same time.

Oh and yes you can use your credit card online, you don't need the download card. Only difference download card you don't pay tax since you already did when you bought it, online they add tax if you are paying by credit card. You can also buy the download cards and they will email you the codes.

thank you for your info!!!

OK. Here are my two cents Smile

Definitely take it out of the box first and set it up!! I still can't get the dumb a$$ thing to sync with my laptop. I have to do everything with my parents computer. I just can't figure out how to change the security settings. Otherwise, setting it up is a snap!

I have used both an app card and credit card. I had my mom buy the app card for Christmas after seeing the post about Amazon's discount!

Right now he has a few games on it. He loves Stretchy Monkey and the train game (download). He also really likes Pet Pals (already on it I believe). The only issue with pet pals is that it makes you connect regularly with the computer to get more "tokens" to play the game. The tokens are free but a pain when I have to do this at my parents house! We also have the Dora the Explorer cartridge.

For Christmas I bought him the Disney Pixar cartridge...it has Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Cars stuff on it. Kind of hard to find in stores but I found it. I also plan to get him a few downloads...probably books and Mr. Pencil.

I don't have one but overheard a woman in Target talking the other day. Apparently with whatever was the hot toy similar to this last year, the networks totally crashed on Xmas because so many people were trying to get on and set it up. So she was recommending to another woman that she not plan on having to add anything to it until the new year, really.

Just wanted to throw that out there...this woman knew more about the leap pad than the people that make them I think. Lol. She just couldnt get her hands on one.

its true, leappad has said on their FB page that they recommend people do all the downloads before christmas as the system may be overloaded and longer waits on/right after Christmas. Santa is bringing download cards for my girls but I think we might wait a few days before going online.

This code was on the leapfrog FB page for the free Alphabet soup (its free in addition to the free on you get to download)
like I said a little old for a 3 year old but free so I put it on Wink

5813-2648-3927-5027

put that code in online where you put the card codes, its good until dec 15th apparently

Everyone I talk to is looking for one. I got my 5 year old one the day it came out (which was like 1 day before her BD) which was lucky and lucked out in Nov talking to the right one at TRU who saved me one for my 3 year olds BD right before they all disappeared.

I also have Dora and think its a good game. I think the trick is with the 3 year olds is to sit with them in the beginning to get them going and then they are good. My 5 year old of course can do more with it then I knew it could even do Wink

From now on though I dont think I'll buy the games if I can download them, that way they can both play it without sharing (or loosing) the cartridge.

OH and if you haven't yet get rechargeables, that thing eats batteries for lunch, you don't want it to run out Xmas morning when every store is closed Wink

Not a problem, glad to share. Santa is bringing the dinosaur game here too.. it does look like fun. Oh and pet pals tip, if you need more tokens and your little one is a little young for the practising of the letters, log on under a different profile and do a few yourself My 3 year old loves to give her pet a bath and give him one like 7 times a day so she goes through a lot of shampoo Wink

So where can you buy rechargable batteries? I am just really nervous that the games will be too advanced for Josh. I really hope not.

target? walmart?? they dont have to be leapfrog ones, just double AA's We got the energizer fast charge ones. I think Costco has a good deal on them too.

Well my 5 year old is amazing on it and really gets a lot out of it. My 3 year old (turned 3 a month ago) is still pretty good with it. So I think your little guy will do great. Besides with electronics kids pick up on them so fast. He'll grow into it.

Owen is totally proficient with my Ipod and my moms Ipad.. he plays all kinds of games and does Glow Drawing, flashcards, piano, etc.. I know for a fact that this will be a hit and I will now have my Ipod back.

I can't wait to get these things out of the box!!!! Tivi and Dino both love their leapster explorers and I'm excited that the games all can be interchangeable! Tehir favorite at the moment is the Pet Pals2. They love making the animals and crack up over it.
