Ruth, I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. :bigarmhug: He sounds like he was really a wonderful man.

Mikayla won't do preschool until next year. We just feel like one year of preschool is enough.

Yay for a Wendy pop in! Yahoo But you didn't give us an update about how you're doing!

Julie, could it be from all the excitement of the first day of school for Colby? Maybe his head is just spinning from all the fun new changes, and he's having a hard time collecting his thoughts....

Colleen, three questions. What size is that jumping bean shirt that's like the gap shirt? Did you get the gap shirt at the regular gap or the baby gap? Was it to match the Jesse skirt so many of us have? I keep forgetting and remembering that I need to find a shirt to go with that skirt! lol

Joey tried on all his jeans 2.5 weeks ago and he had 5 pairs that fit him. This week, he has 1 pair that fits, all the others are at least an inch too short.

Ruth, I still need a shirt for the Jesse skirt too. LMK what you find!

the jumping bean shirt is a size 6.....and yes it goes perfect with the jesse......i got the gap shirts.....actually gap babies.....i find that gap runs HUGE......lucy wears a size small 4-5 in kids......and a 5t in babygap.......they were having a HUGE sale in store, and i believe it is online, too.......i applied for a gapcard and got another 30% off....i paid pennies for the shirts........the gaps dusty pink and apricot colors match a ton of MJ stuff perfectly!!!! (i'm not sure if those are the real names of the colors, that is what i call them.....LOL>....)

Miles and I went to Target yesterday (thanks for the money saving link Colleen. I'd also add, get the target card to save 5% - that little bit extra makes it cheeper to by groceries there). Ayway, I decided to buy "myself" a birthday present and Miles decided I needed a fire department duplo set.

He has plenty of other duplo blocks but he LOVES and he has played by himself for hours with it. He never plays by himself this long.

Maybe it was the best birthday present for me!

Oh, and Ruth I totally already know what Miles is going to wear tomorrow, lol. I go with him tomorrow so he's wearing overalls. Something that I wouldnt send him in if I weren't going to be there to help.

Emily - the eyes look great! You said it hurts but is there any lasting hurt? Do you have to care for it like a tattoo? I would have guessed your eyes would have been swollen but they didn't look it in the picture.

Hi ladies!

Happy birthday Emily!

Colleen, super cute kids! Lucy looks so grown up all ready for school. Glad she had fun and that the MJ was popular!

Emily, love the eye makeup. So beautiful! Did your sister eventually enjoy her day or was she bridezilla the whole time?

Tracy, I cannot imagine. I wish them peace. I have a friend in a similar situation and I send her a flower ever year on the birth date. Its been 10 years for her. They have the memorial star that I gave them on the christmas tree...its cute...a little silver star with the baby's name and date. They were sold at my local hospital to commemorate...seemed like a very appropriate memorial. I sent it with a little verse about babies being gifts from heaven. Perhaps that would comfort your friend a bit as well?

I cannot remember what else is going on, except that Mel is away and all the kids are super cute in their back to school outfits!

I am at work at the moment, apparently there is no one to cover for me if I'm sick. So I had to come in this afternoon and again tomorrow to teach. Joy. I'm going to end up in the hospital at this rate. Funny part is after I was super sick last christmas and ended up making a mistake because I should have been in bed (I had pneumonia) my boss told me not to come in, to ask for help when I was sick. Well, I did, and no one could help, so I had to work sick. Ug. So ironic!

Nicole

I'm so sorry you have to work while sick. That is just terrible. Hope you are feeling better today.

Tracy, I am just so sorry for your friend. I really can't even imagine the grief. :bigarmhug:

Colleen, I loved all the pics of Lucy! Isn't it too bad that every grade isn't as fun as kindergarten? lol I'm glad she had such a great day, and i was totally cracking up about all the MJ comments. Biggrin

Happy birthday, Emily!!!

Loved all the pics, Emily (C3PO). I never would have guessed that eyeliner was permanent!!! (and welcome back!)

Karrie, I love those first day pics, too. Is Mikayla in some kind of preschool this year? I forget what you're doing with her.

Did I miss any other first day pics? Sorry if I did.

I just got news that a family friend of ours passed away last night. Can I just talk about him for a minute? He was such a great person - I wish all of you could have known him. We first met Phil when I lived in New Orleans. He usually had a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He was an engineer for NASA and he rode his motorcycle to work every day. I bet his was the only bike in that parking lot! lol He was completely and totally in love with his wife, Barbara. They were so sweet together. One year on Valentine's Day, our church had a dinner, and he got down on one knee and read her a poem and said some really sweet things. That's the only memory I have of that dinner, so it clearly made an impression.

When my grandfather was sick, I stayed with Phil and Barbara for about a week while my parents went out of town to care for my grandfather. For some reason, I was really interested in cars and manual transmissions and they were kind enough to let me shift through the gears as they drove (I think I was 13 or 14 at the time). We were about to go out to eat for dinner and Barbara left something in the house, so Phil tossed me the keys and I went to just turn the radio on. But somehow I guess I turned the key too far, because suddenly the car lurched forward... right into their closed garage door! I just plowed right through the door. I felt awful. The door had to be replaced and there was some damage to the car, too. But Phil handled it so well. We still went out to eat and then had me do my homework when we got back to their house while he worked on the car and garage door. After I finished, I went out to see how I could possibly help and we had a nice talk. I was amazed that he wasn't mad at me (and thankful!). And of course, there were lots of jokes made about my driving in the years that followed...

Phil had become an engineer because he wanted to support his family, but he never loved it. So when he got closer to retirement age, they moved out to Colorado and he pursued his true passion, which was more artistic. He built these huge life-size dolls, among other things. He started batting Alzheimer's several years ago and has really deteriorated in the past month or so, unable to stand or eat or talk or even open his eyes much. The last thing he told his wife before he lost his ability to speak was that he was 'so ready' to be with God. I'm not sure how old he was - well into his 80s, I think. I wish I could go to the memorial service. Sad I know that losing someone with Alzheimer's is a process that starts long before their bodies physically die, but they were so close that I'm sure this is very difficult for Barbara.

ETA: I remembered one last favorite memory I have of Phil. Smile He first introduced us to the completely awesome game that is Dutch Blitz. Anyone ever heard of it? Anyway, Phil wasn't that great at it (it's a speed game) and he would blatantly and jokingly 'cheat' in such funny ways. He would 'accidentally' drop cards on the floor or pretend to take them to the bathroom, etc. He had a great sense of humor.

I'm so sorry about your friend. Thank you for taking the time to us about him. He sounds like a fabulous person who is going to mssed by many. :bighug:

"Jumarse" wrote:

Hey Mel, guess what Colby has started doing? Yep, that's right, stuttering. WUWT and WTH!!!

Yep, totally common in little boys this age. Their little brains go at 743 miles a minute and their mouth can't keep up, then toss in a previous speech difficulty and you have a recipe for some stuttering. I hope it's mild and short lived for you. How is Colby reacting to it? As much as you want to say it, DO NOT tell him to slow down. Just slow down your own speech a tad, not ridiculously slow, but just a little Mr Roger's Neighborhood-ish. KWIM? Also, don't treat it like the elephant in the room and pretend you didn't hear it. A lot of times we will say to Jaxon, "Jaxon, I just heard you say 'le-le-le-lets go upstairs and play', Did you mean to say 'Let's go upstairs and play?'" He typically will say 'yes'. And then we ask him to try it again and he will say it just fine without stuttering. It's important that he gets the opportunity to be successful with a sentence he messed up. Make sense? You don't want to do that every single time, but you do want to point it out. The goal is to get Colby to understand that stuttering is something he is doing, not something that just happened to him.

Ruth, sorry for your loss. Sounds like Phil was a wonderful man.

Mel, nice to see you again!

Hi all!

Feeling a bit better today, at work but planning on taking tomorrow off.

Candace, if any of your kids ever gets stuff stuck up their noses again, try this trick: pinch the un-stuck nostril closed and blow forcefully into their mouths. I had to do this when Alicia stuck a pea up her nose...worked like a charm. Glad you're feeling less foggy and hope you can pop in again soon!

Damn, I hate September, so darn busy!

My current swearword is sugar plum fairies. Alicia said sh!t the other day...I said thanks DH...now you deal with that one!

Gotta run, 7 thousand things to get done today if I hope to stay home and sleep tomorrow.

still looking for the same things that were on my list from the lsat time. But, I'm removing the water table for now, and have replaced it with an easle.
Plus there were some really cute boutique outfits that I saw yesterday during my volunteer shift. Gotta snag those babies up. They were very much Bailey Boy's-esque, can't think of the brand off the top of my head.
Can't decide if I want to get there at 4:00 and stand in line for an arm band (with kids in tow) and then go back at 6:00 when the doors open or just go at 6:00 and be the last through the door. It just all depends on how brave I am.

Candace I'm sorry you are still feeling crappy. Sad

Glad you are feeling a bit better Nicole!

Mel, true on the stuttering...I do correct him almost every time though, in that I'll repeat what he's just said back to him. It definitely has increased more since school has started, but been going on for about a week now...just mentioned it today because it's much more frequent now.

Have fun Vera!!!

Colleen sorry you are so busy, I hope things get even keeled soon!

Kelly sorry Everly is having a hard time with teething.

Gahhhhhhhhhhhh I hate those eggs lol!!!!!!!!!!! Those aren't eggs, those are 2 boobs on a plate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness, a friend just posted that if anyone went to Target yesterday, she had her CC number stolen and $500 in charges on it, that was the only place she shopped. Well I shopped there yesterday, so I was trying to call Joe to get his password for his checking account, it's a debit credit card. So yet again I guess I'm glad to live in a small town, basically through the course of her FB post, it was figured out a restaurant about 45 minutes from here is the culprit, the secret service is involved, basically all 50+ numbers stolen all had that once place in common that they visited in the last several weeks. Crazy!

That is crazy Julie!

Colleen, I have Logan and my nephew on the bus with Joey for the morning ride. Way less anxiety than I had with Logan! I still don't like it but it's not as bad. lol

So, in all this, was your card one of the 50?

And this is a perfect example of how your card number is in jeopardy every.single.place you use it, not just online. I don't think that people realize that joe blow at the make-up counter at Dillard's is just as dishonest as an online hacker.

Nope, nothing with my card, I've never been to that restaurant that seems to be the center of everything. I will say since Joe works in the restaurant industry, at least when we go out to eat we never use a CC, but cash. He's said that it's just rampant at restaurants, the swiping of card numbers, even on a onsie twosie basis to not raise red flags. Don't let your credit card out of your sight...but even then, a simple little hookup on the card swiper will swipe for the charge, and then also steal the number right in front of your face. So you are right Mel, and it's sad because who really carries cash anymore, or writes a check? It's mostly either credit cards or the debit cards.

Dammit this day is dragging. I can't believe it's barely even 4 yet. And I think everyone is going to have a later bedtime tonight. ughhhh.

Kelly, I ran mine through the dishwasher, worked just fine afterwards.

I use 1 cup of bleach in my bathtub for toys. Seems to work. I also add some dish soap and swish them around and leave them to soak o/n. Rinse well. I put really grubby things in the dishwasher.

Thought I take a break from packing an say hi!

I'm actually on the laptop Blum 3

Moving is crazy business. Lets see..

*Our house - They owner finance is going to let us break it. We'll have to do a promissary note for two months payments, but its better than a foreclosure... and they'll let us pay it over time. This isnt something I'm going to attach 50 billion smiley faces to, but its happy.

*WV house - We found a house (or I should say my ILs) in WV. Its a two story with basement. 3 br, 1 1/2 bath, 75% of the basement is finished. The drawback being that Ben's room will be 8x8.. The plan is that they kids will use their rooms for sleeping and clothes an that's about it. We're going to use the basement space as a play room for them. I really think it'll make bed time easier. Lots of windows, the owner is a friend of the family, $400 less than our house payment... It doesnt have central a/c but the owner is willing to drill it in.. 3 mi from the high school where I'll be teaching... Beats 50 by a long shot! has a gas stove.. never cooked on gas.. we'll see how that goes

Still nothing on daycare for the kids. DH will probably have atleast a week off before his transfer is done.. so he can shop for daycare and we'll visit. Id still love to have Belle in pre-k, but I don't know how transportation would work.

*actual moving - we reserved our truck last week, but when dh got the confirmation call we have to drive around 25 mi to pick it up.. sigh.. when dh told the ppl that they gave us an extra day free on the rental, so we get it tonight. My house is so full of boxes I can hardly move, let alone pack, so we'll start moving stuff into it tonight.

Weve started saying good bye to friends... and that's been hard. my family will be harder.

We're leaving Saturday and will get there Sunday.. we're staying a night about halfway there. I could make it in a day, but dh driving the uhaul doesn't want to. The utilities will be turned on when we get there, so that's happy. Stupid water ppl, DH's dad had to go fill out an application and forge dh's signature so the water could be turned on... otherwise no water til Monday at the earliest.

Monday I have an appt to meet the superintendent and get my paperwork done. Monday night I have to go to the board meeting and be approved.. Tuesday I start work. I can't believe its so soon!

The kids have done ok so far. I haven't really packed a bunch of their stuff because they're still using their toys and I just havent packed their clothes. I think Belle will be fine moving as she's such a social butterfly... Ben is gonna take some work as he's entirely attached to mommy. The good part is atleast he's with dh for the first week, so maybe the transition to daycare won't be so bad, but man he cries when I leave him with most ppl.

Ben has started saying "I did it". His vocab is mama, daddy, hi, and "I did it" silly boy. I had him in long jeans and a t-shirt today and he just looked like such a little boy, and not a baby. He's just so big. The ped was impressed that he's saying "I did it"

Belle has been great. We still have a few moments here and there, but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. We can have conversations, she talks about all kinds of stuff.. She's (finally) mastered her tricycle... just in time to move to one of the hilliest areas of the country. I hear "Mommy, I need go potty, I do it myself" a lot. We're still having poop issues (like its in her panties), but we're getting there.

Wow, this has gotten long... I bet there are like 50 posts since I started this.

I really think I'm buying Belle a Sugarland Lollipop skirt.. and the Jesse Blum 3
