Peg, it is your birthday too? Well shoot, HAPPY BIRTHDAY :cake:
Colleen, your weekend sounds absolutely wonderful! You definitely deserved that time off
Deb, glad Grace is feeling better.
I am almost done with the book I am reading and I need some suggestions for what to read next. Anyone read any good ones lately??
Hey all. Sitting inPanera and keep forgetting I have a question for Colleen.
So Colleen. I am chipping my teeth left and right from grinding at night. My dental insurance covers zero on a bite guard. I can't spend $527 on one. I thought I remember you talking about one I could just buy without having one 'fitted' by my dentist. Can you tell me about it? Is it as comfortable as one that was made for my mouth?
this was the one that i used to recommend to my patients, because, a couple of my patients told me they loved them. I have never tried one, but i recommended them alot, and my patients always bought them and some loved, some hated........????? i guess it's what you can tolerate.....you can adjust it with a sharp razor and then soften it with a little heat......that might help to "customize it " to your own fit.....The Doctor
Mel.. I dunno if this is a deal but I just saw MJ Museum knot 2 $38 shipped... very cute fall colors
Buy it. It is a great price for any knot dress. We already have the museum knot, it is beautiful.
and i believe walmart carries them .......they are like 11-13 bucks, and you can print out the 5 dollar off coupon......not a bad price to atleast try it........good luck!!!!!!! i had been clenching like a mofo.......now that school is in full swing, it seems to be getting better........now if i could just get jack to sleep in his bed.....LOL.........
Colleen, the night before last I went to check on Ben at 230 am. He had taken his pillow and blankets off his bed and put them on the floor and was sleeping there. I thought of you
awwwwwww.....it was cute the 1st couple times......but now he screams when we place him in the bed, and he instantly climbs down and goes and curls up on the floor.....oy..........
emilyc3........i just read a long way home by danielle steele....it was very different...and had twists and turns i wasn't expecting.....lol......now i'm reading rogue by danielle steele.....SNORE........i'm halfway through and it is very boring.....i also started the anne rice beauty trilogy.....it's weird, it has sex but it's a very weird setting.....it's actually talking about sleeping beauty.......so i gather anyways......the 1st book of the trilogy was free on epubbud.com
Thanks Colleen I'm going to check out a long way home and the anne rice trilogy. I have never read anything by either of those authors but I hear they are really good. I hope you find a way to keep Jack in his bed! Gweny does not sleep in her bed either. She sleeps on the floor in Bradley's room. Silly kids!
Hmm things have been busy over here and I leave Friday for a 3 day weekend with the girls!
I am reading Game Of Thrones.. and it is a hard read.. long and intense.. but I am sticking with it!
ok off to shower!
Have fun, Kelly!
Colleen, that weekend sounds PERFECT!!!
Emily, I read that Rice trilogy a really long time ago (and sort of regret it). I don't think it's like her other books - she even wrote them under a different name. If I remember correctly, the 2nd and 3rd books have a lot of gay sex... just so you know. It was a bit of a turn off for me. lol
Mel, good luck with the mouth guard. If the one Colleen suggested doesn't work, let me know and I'll ask my good friend where she got hers. She's in danger of needing crowns on several of her teeth from grinding at night and a former habit of chewing on ice.
Today is my Friday. Yay! Kids are finally on the mend, my jaw feels better. So Noelle and my DH caught a praying mantis in our yard last night. Kept it in a jar overnight and then we released it (so it could get breakfast ) this morning. We googled mantises last night (because I said they eat other insects and DH said they eat leaves - why does he EVER question me when I am NEVER wrong? lol) and we saw that when they are really hungry they have been known to eat even small rodents. Anyway, when we got home from dance today, Noelle was playing on the back patio and came in and told me she found a dead squirrel. Sure enough. EWW!!! I think it might have been electrocuted. The weird thing is I swear it keeps moving, but I am CERTAIN it is not the squirrel itself doing the moving. It's not really that windy out today, either. Weird. Anyway, I texted DH that it was there and he said that maybe the praying mantis could eat it. LOL He makes me laugh every day. But the best part is that he will dispose of it when he gets home.
Oh yeah, Emily - have you ever read the Lord of the Rings trilogy? I tried several times to read them when I was a lot younger and never could get into them. But now I'm glad I waited because I LOVE reading them now! I'm now on the last one, thanks to getting to lay around a lot after having my wisdom teeth out. It's so fun to read something so EPIC. Really great, descriptive writing, too. So much better than a lot of the trash written these days...
My fav Danielle Steele book is Jewels I've read it several times. I also love Jodi Piccoult, my fav being Plain Truth. Her books are a lil heavier and always have some twist to them. My sister's keeper was also much better than the movie.
I'm not really into Danielle Steele, but love Nora Roberts...great light reading. Loved the Lord of the Rings...I think I've read the series about 10 times...the first time in grade 2, lol. I really like suspense, so I read Kootz, Patricia Cornwell, Lisa Jackson...stuff like that.
Ruth, glad you are feeling better. I didn't know praying mantis ate rodents...that is crazy!
Hey everybody! Been several days since I've checked in over here which is unheard of for me! My kids are really needy, as usual.
But I am happy to report that Ella
1. Stayed at Sunday School by herself Sunday morning with very minimal crying
2. Stayed at and participated in Children's Choir Sunday night with me sitting in the back of the room (it was her first time there - I won't stay this week
3. Had a BLAST at gymnastics on Monday!!!
4. Had an awesome day at preschool on Tuesday!
Man, I hope she keeps it up. But Peg, I'm with you - she's already at the torturous threes and man - the outright rebellion kills me!
Colleen, what did you do to get so lucky and spoiled for the weekend?! Glad you got away and had a fun time!
I actually went shopping. By myself. For about 5 hours out of town. And I bought me some things! And the best part was, dh was at home watching the kids and I totally did not feel like I had to rush back home for the first time in 4 years!! :woohoo: Granted, the girls were still up when I got home at 9pm, but anyway...
Emily, did you get all your cleaning done the other day?
Deb, did Grace finish her meds? Hope she's all better!
Nicole, hope that DJ isn't still a whiny mess. How are things going for you lately on the homefront? Would love an update.
Ruth - Glad the wisdom teeth surgery is behind you. I read The Hobbit in 7th grade and have often thought I should reread it because I'm sure a ton of it went over my head way back then. Just don't know if I can buy into the whole LotR trilogy.
I used to read so much and lately I've read NOTHING. I always liked Nora Roberts better than Danielle Steele too, but haven't read a book by either of them in probably 10 years! And I really preferred John Grisham over both of them!
Mel, did you get the mouth guard?
Karrie, you lurking, girl? How's it going with the older kids back in school - love being a SAHM or do you miss your job?
Anyway, to bed I go. I need to be productive tomorrow...I could clean for years.
Karrie, that is so awesome you finally did it.
Happy Birthday to little Miss Alicia.
I've been trying to jump on here every once in a while but it never fails, as soon as I'm ready to try to post, one of the kids need something.
Things have been crazy here. The kids started school last week (Mikayla loves preschool!), we had my brother wedding up north last weekend and I'm watching my other brother's daughter on Tuesdays and Thursdays. And then to top it all off, my MIL had a stroke about 3 weeks ago (she's doing really well now) and is the only one that knows anything about their bank accounts, bills and just their general money situation. She doesn't know where her ID is, no one can find it, and can't remember where their CDs are that they were going to use to buy a new house. They were temporarily living with DH's brother, but she's getting out of rehab tomorrow and they CANNOT go back to his house, so we are trying to figure out where to put them, and this is all falling on me since I'm the only one with even a little bit of time to drive around and make phone calls. And, to top it all off, DH and I decided last night that we may just have to move them in with us until we can find her ID (or get her a new one) and hit up all the banks in the area to see if they have an account in her name.
So, moral of the story is, make sure someone else knows where and has some kind of access to your money in case of an emergency.
Oh my goodness, Karrie - that is like out of a movie!!
Thankful that you are there to help and hoping the kids will enjoy having her around until yall figure out what is going on! Worst-case scenario, she should probably at least get a quarterly statement in the mail from somewhere...right?
My word Karrie, that is awful. I hope that things go more smootly soon. So strange not to have any records of her banking information...you'd think there'd be cheques, or statements filed or something. Good thing you are available to help!
Candace, good to hear that Ella is doing better. DJ didn't cry this morning when DH dropped him off...apparently he saves that for days when I do. He cried for 50 minutes after I left yesterday. Sigh. Glad you got some "you" time...what did you buy?
I had to go to a baby shower for my new SIL's daughter last night. Not fun. Only a few people and she insisted on posing with each individual part of each gift for pictures. It took forever...thank goodness there were only a few of us. She has no clue...due in a month and has no idea how to use a baby bathtub...no idea how to change him...no idea what a bassinette is for. Sigh.
On the home front we are at an impass. DH swears it must have come from some bag that got dropped off and was under a couch cushion or something. I doubt that, but have no proof otherwise. No other instances, nothing else suspicious. I'm on guard but don't know what else to do right now. I will be playing a surprize visit home sometime this month - the kids are both in school in the mornings and since hers are school aged and her little one goes to her Mom's she is home alone during the mornings too. Sigh.
In full baby shower planning mode. My Sis is due on Nov 9 and her shower is Sept. 30. My BFF just adopted a 2.5 year old and I'm going to be having a welcome shower for him. I'm thinking books as the theme...but haven't decided. Obviously she doesn't need baby stuff, and she has a 4 year old girl...so they have much of the other little toddler type stuff including a train table with all the Thomas stuff.
School is going well, and DH is loving having the mornings to himself. I"m liking the fact that my house is getting much tidier now that he's home alone for a bit...now I have a chance to keep it clean - if he does the pick up, cleaning in the evening is much easier. At a standstill as for the renovation as our new skylight is leaking and our asshat roofer won't come back and fix it. Want to strangle him. Anyhow, have to find someone to fix that before we finish the bathroom.
Good Afternoon all. I hope everyone had a great week so far. Nothing going on over here to report.
Nicole- Weird about the shower and the pictures.
Candace- Awsome you got to go for so long and had sometime to your self. How have you been feeling latley.
Ok. Got to get Josh to his class soon. He has a belt graduation on Saturday. So excited for him.
Karrie, wow, that is a lot for you to have to handle! I hope it all works out and they are able to get everything taken care of.
Nicole, Sorry to hear about the leaky skylight and the asshat of a roofer!
Candace, glad Ella is doing better and yay for some you time!!!!!
Ruth, I have never read any of the LOTR stuff, but from what I have heard they are really good. That is pretty crazy about the praying mantis. I never would've thought that they were capable of eating rodents! I knew I was scared of those things for a reason. If they can eat rodents, then I am sure they could chomp fingers off too
Kelly, enjoy your girls weekend.
Karrie, my goodness I'm so sorry about your MIL and I hope you all get everything worked out. Did she not have a place that she kept important papers? With a CD, don't you actually have to have the certificate when cashing it in?
Josh meets with the developmental pediatrican Monday and I still havent finished my list of questions. Iam so nervous about this appointment. Josh has made so much progress. He was sofar behind and it was so noticable that now I dont know what he should be at now and where he falls. I am so proud of how far he has come. I am hoping this meeting can give me some insight as to just what is going on and why he is still having problems speechwise and controlling his emotions.
Karrie -wow..that is a lot on your plate.
Candace - you go girl...shopping out of town for you and not rushing back..u must do it more often.
ugh..had more totype...must go move sprinkler.
on the medicince front....we all did a happy dance yesterday...the LAST dose of the "yucky medicine" as grace calls it.
that is insane karrie.......there's gotta be a simplier way to get the info.......good luck with her possibly moving in, and her recovery, and her finances....i bet your mind is just spinning!!!!!!!! (((((((HUGS)))))))
candace....sounds like a great shopping trip!!!!!!
ruth......i had no idea that praying mantis ate rodents.......wow......and gross!!!!!!LOL!!!! no wonder why we have so many in our yard......my cats leave them breakfast, lunch and supper ........
kat.....good luck at josh's appt.....glad josh is making huge progress!!!!!! that is awesome!!!!!!
nicole.....glad everything is going so well!!!!!! i'd still be plotting....
hi emily, mel, and deb!!!!!!
Looks like everyone abandoned ship......
are you feeling a little better now, karrie???? hope so!!!!!!!
This is kind of sad. So, is everyone just using fb now?
Turns out MIL was just being stubborn and bull-headed. She wanted to see the place first, even though it meant going back to DH's brothers house when she got out of rehab. Kind of makes me mad, we all spent a lot of time trying to figure things out, and it was all a waste. Whatever.
I guess I'll try to go catch up with everyone on fb...
Karrie, that stinks!
I keep getting logged out and then don't bother to log back in if there's nothing new. So I haven't been around in awhile.
So...how is everyone doing with school?
Miles is having a super better year this year than last. But 5 days a week is exhausting him. It starts on Wednesday and then by Thursday he is having meltdowns. Not super bad tantrums or anything, but the slightest things turn into crying fits. We had his first OT yesterday afternoon and when we got home he was so out of it exhausted! Can't add naps back though because then he won't go to bed at night. Guess we just keep pushing through. He loves school though and while he is still having issues (and still has the special Ed teacher with him) they are so much better than last year.
I lurk a lot but I'm here. This week bass been crazy
Monday: Ben speech eval, belle swimming
Tuesday: Belle dance, Ben developmental eval
Wednesday: I got to go walk and relax
Thursday: work all day then PTO from 4-7
Friday: began about 1230 am with changing Belles sheets and washing her because she had thrown up. Morning was doing more laundry. She acts better so I think we'll try our weekly bob Evans with the ils.
I'm 30 mi from my goal for the month so I'm kicking that in and I'm now down 10 lbs
Great job with the walking and weight loss Kerri!! I hope the puking doesn't continue.
Emily, so glad to hear that school is so much better this year! Hopefully it won't take long for him to adjust to 5 days a week.
Karrie...that is crazy about your MIL!! What a piece of work!!
Emily...i'm in the same boat...lucy is having a heck of a time with the long days...she. Loves school, but come thursday, she is jst done and wants to stay home with us...and she's almost 7!!!!
kerri... That is awesome with the weightloss...and holy busy schedule!!
I am so glad i didnt sign lucy up for after school stuff...she really just needs to chillax when she gets home. She gets home at 4, supper at 5:30, then its shower and homework time..bedby 7:45....abby isnt signed up for any activities either..we do go to storytime1-2 times a week ( abby and jack) and spend the rest of our time chillin, doing crafts, or working on letters and numbers, or playing games or outside.
Kerri- wtg in the weight loss.
Emily- sorry Miles is having a hard time.
Colleen- yeah sounds like it is a good thing you didnt sign her up for any activities.
Josh is doing so well this year. He did get his first yellow dot yesterday though. He was playing to hard and didnt want to listen to the teacher. He is doing good with the long days. Guess he is just used to it by now. Lol
What is everyones plans for the weekend?
We're in the long days worn out group too. If Belle doesn't nap Sunday it makes the early part of the week hard too. She's at prek from 730-3 and then Mondays she has swim and Tuesdays is Ballet. She's been coming home pretty regularly and napping on the couch. She fell asleep on the 10 min drive from my ils to the dance studio on Tuesday. It's a 10 min drive. I carried her in snoring. She woke up and had a wonderful time. She goes to bed at 8 and gets up about 630. I think she's getting taller again so that's probably not helping the situation.
I considered not doing swimming but the girl loves her swimming class and had a fit when I suggested dropping it.
I'm glad Miles is doing better this year!
Good to hear Josh is doing well too!
Hope that Lucy is loving kindergarten!
Karrie, glad the MIL thing got straightened out even if it wasn't how you expected.
I got Belle the most gorgeous Molly skirt from MJ:
The colors are so much more vibrant in person.
That skirt is beautiful, kerri...i love it!! I saw you inquire about that and thought what a score....beautiful!!!
Lucy's in 1 st grade this yer...lol...last yr kindergarten was only 1/2 day...
I was wondering where everyone was...
kerri...love that skirt.
colleen - i haven't put Grace in anything either. Everyone keeps asking me if she'll take dance or gymnastics or something. I introduced her to preschool. I get her around 4:15...come home on non football game nights, eat, and just play. She just needs to get outside and secondly...I want time with her. I know the day will come when she'll have stuff after school....but for now...she's here. I think we do plenty of stuff to have fun.
Karrie - wow..wow
Emily - sorry miles isn't making the entire week...hopefully the routine will help and eventually he'll make it the entire week.
I'm exhausted. it's been a long day, but fun. Our school had a carnival after school...I signed up for the pie-a-teacher booth to raise $ for Relay for Life. didn't last long b/c Grace kind of freaked out. now I have a pile of papers to grade. fun times..fun times.
Colleen I knew that. I have no idea what I was thinking. Sorry.
Wow, Karrie - I know that was scary. You did it! :bigarmhug: Hope everything works out perfectly for your family!! :woohoo:
Happy Birthday, Alicia!! Cadence would have LOVED the rainbow streamers!!! Sorry about the foster situation, btw.
So Cadence's bottom - not really that much better last night. I've been slathering it with neosporin since it was kind of oozy...anyway, woke up this morning with her face like this:
These are the types of patches we are dealing with all over her body, but the patches on her leg are much bigger. And then the whole yeast/staph rash on her bottom was different.
eta: In contrast - this picture was taken about 7pm last night - so 12 hours later this is the difference...
I was starting to see the faint beginnings of an eczema patch and put cetaphil on her face. We've been using the Cetaphil some because we ran out of Cerave and I couldn't find it again. BUT, I had not used it on her face.
Colleen,. Lucy doesn't get home til 4?! Wow, that is a long day for a 7 year old, no wonder she is exhausted! What is the site that you use to get those work sheets to help Abby with her letters. Gweny knows how to somewhat spell Gweny, but most of her letters only resemble what the actual letter looks like. I need to work with her more on that.
Karrie, sorry to hear MIL is being so stubborn.
Kerri, hope Belle is feeling all better!
Emily, glad to hear that Miles is doing better in school this year.
Kat, glad to hear that Josh is doing well too!
Deb, did you get pied? Hope you got all your papers graded.
Going to sign Gweny up for ballet this morning and she is STOKED! She does really good playing Just Dance on the wii so hopefully she will do well in class too, lol.
i useAlphabet Preschool Activities and CraftsDLTK's Letter A Crafts for KidsAlphabet Worksheets for Preschool Children | Kids Learning Station
and this blog........she has fantastic ideas.......she offers a free alphabet learn to write worksheets.....that are what i use when i introduce the letters to abby...but they are basically exactly like what the other sites have to offer.........LOLLetter A for Apple Updated | Confessions of a Homeschooler
Thanks Colleen, I have them bookmarked now
Kerri, WTG on the weight loss! Your schedule sounds crazy, too! And I LOVED the skirt, so cute!
Emily, I can't wait to see pics of Gweny in her dance stuff (you are going to take pics, right? lol).
I was happy to see posts here! I was spending more time on FB bc it seemed like no one was here anymore, but I really do like this format a lot. Half the time I try to post something, though, I get these weird error messages... and I'm not on the computer all that much these days, either, so it doesn't help when i try to post something and get stopped!
I feel like our schedule is too busy this year, but I'm not sure what (if anything) I can do about it. How about you all?
Ruth- sorry about the busy schedule. I bet with all the class room teaching for Noelle and trying to entertain the boys you rarely have time to pee let alone get on the computer. We miss you. We have a pretty hectic schedule. I usually only have time to get on while I am at work and right before I got to bed. I really miss talking to everyone a ton like we all used to be able too. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Ruth I feel the same way about being over scheduled (and liking this format). We don't even have any extra activities at the moment, either, just school and now OT. We dont have a free weekend until after Halloween!!
No school on Wednesday because of another Jewish holiday. I think that is another reason things feel so scattered for me. We have still only had one full week of school!
Ok I have been working on this post for way too long considering I didn't really say anything, lol.
i feel over booked all the time, but we really aren't, my day is just packed.......with abby's lessons, plus having fun enjoying this beautiful weather, jack has speech 2 mornings and they are so long, an hour would be fine by me, but manoman...one lady stays about an hour and 30 minutes, and the other lady i had to tell her we were done when it was going on 2 hrs...really.....too long, jack was falling asleep with his eyes open...it's my afternoons that are busy. i have to watch max like a hawk, the potential for trouble is always brewing, our latest debogle with him is a doozy....and sarah has field hockey, and whatnot.......it's just crazy.....sarah is so overwhelmed with her advanced classes and her need for excellence.....she is up until 2am most nights(crying and freaking out)...we cut her work schedule down to just weekends....and that is still overwhelming. so i won't be adding afterschool activities to the littles schedule for a while, unless lucy shows interest.....abby would do anything..but she is also perfectly happy playing on her own swingset.
Colleen, what's up with Max?
Hey all! So glad to see some activity here!
Colleen, what is up with Max? Poor Sarah, too much to do and too little time.
Ruth, yes we are over scheduled too. Birthday parties are starting now that Alicia is in school and I just want to scream. We don't have time to go to 2 birthday parties a weekend. Alicia is only in half day school, which I'm thankful for. They couldn't handle full day at this point. We are doing swimming lessons on Fridays at 5 and Alicia is in dance on Saturday mornings. That is MORE than enough for us.
Kat, sorry that Josh got a yellow dot, but I'm glad to hear that he's doing better at school.
Emily (ms) glad that Miles is doing better too. Sometimes I think we just ask so much of our kids these days. When I was 5, kindergarten and Brownies was a lot. Now we start them so early...sometimes I feel guilty.
Deb, how many pies hit you? Is that what freaked Grace out?
Emily (C3), how is Gwney's behaviour now that DH is home? Are things smoothing out?
Me, I'm good. Having some issues dealing with my Hashimoto Encephalopathy at the moment. One of the symptoms is sleep disturbances. Mine come in the form of very intense dreams, where I wake up with sore muscles and very tired. It is definitely not restful. I'm thinking of getting some good sleep aids...but I hate the idea of being drugged up. I had a training all day on Saturday for foster parenting and some words with the director since we haven't had a permanent placement yet. DH and I are frustrated giving up so much time for training when we don't have a child with us. I hope to be placed in the next month. Otherwise DH and I are going to decide if we are continuing with the agency we are trained with. Both kids are sick. Low grade fevers and snotty noses. They are having a couch day. Our new living room couch pulls out, so I set them up on the bed this morning with sippy cups, blankets and pillows and Dumbo on TV. Hopefully they feel better tomorrow.
i'm just going to say, i'm eating crow....teenage years suck, i guess i wasn't deep enough into it...so, ya, i was wrong.
i'll keep it short, i know none of you have teens yet...you asked....
i suspect drugs...pills to be exact.....i have many suspicions, and only a little bit of proof....i told max i was worried, but i'm not ready to accuse him...i know i'd be pissed and even more rebelious if my parents accused me of drug use and i wasn't.....so i told him i was worried and watching him like a hawk, cleaned out the medicine cabinet while he was right there, and i am going to buy some drug tests and put them right up in the medicine cabinet next to his deodarent......nice and subtle, right?? LOL.....
so between him, and my overachiever teenage daughter.....makes me much more patient for tantrums, attitude issues, ages and stages stuff......
good news is, the refi went through...locked in at 3.625% and was able to roll our home equity into the new mortgage and our payments will be $200 month cheaper.....unfortunately we will had to do another 30 yr mortgage..i needed to save $$.
oh dear Candace
I buy Cerave on Amazon ... but Target does carry it.
OMG Colleen, I hope you are wrong. If you are right, you are being such a good Mom by letting him know that you are worried and watching! One of my greatest fears!
ya, i wish i was wrong, but i don't think i am......just treading lightly, which is hard for me.....i'm itallian, and like to shoot from the hip....
