Cars seat/ booster ?

We are in the market for a new car seat and I am thinking of the Britax frontier. It's what he has in his dads car and frankly, the 85 lb harness limit seems good for my 95 percentile kid.

Anyway, I was looking at photos on Amazon (of this and the Graco nautilus) and it made me wonder - does height not matter any more when you get to a booster? There were several pictures and the kids ears were above the back of the seat (which is supposedly when a kid outgrows a car seat).

I think the frontier is still my best best for longevity, but I guess I'm not sure of the "rules" for the next kind of car seat.

Hummm, I'm not sure about height limits and the pics you saw. Anyway, we have a Britax frontier for my 7 year old and my 5 year old. They are AWESOME!!! My 7 year old could still grow quite a bit bigger and still use the seat. She is about 55 pounds now. I'm not sure how many inches, but there are still quite a few "adjustments" she can go up in the seat. Her head is still no where near "out of the back of the seat."

I *think* (but I`m not 100% sure) that once the child goes from being in a harness seat to being in a booster height does not matter. Booster being where they are using the actual car seatbelt as opposed to the carseat harness belt. But on most of the convertible type seats you should be able to raise the back to grow with him.

We bought a frontier for C this past summer and are liking it. I was a dummy and didn't have it installed properly for like 6 months so make sure you read the directions carefully. I scanned them and since we had 2 other Britax seats I "thought I knew" and I didn't. Sad That's the only advice I have. Smile Good luck!

Ok, could be talking out my butt, but I believe this is what I remember.
But I'm too lazy to go look it up, so double check me.

The head height of a car seat is only a concern with rear facing.

The height limit of a forward facing seat is due to the harness straps over the shoulders. The kids torso obviously has to fit under the highest harness setting. So, you will have a height limit on the frontier that corresponds to the height of his shoulders. After he outgrows the harness in the frontier, he will use the booster to raise himself up to the 4'9" that is required to be able to safely use the cars safety belt.

my forward facing carseat for lucy goes to 57 inches......which is almost 6 feet tall. i don't know the safety in's and outs, but i do remember my doc saying years ago, before all these strict carseat laws, that if the kids head is more than 3 inches above the carseat back, then it was a safety hazard...............since then, carseats have been remade and have "high backs".....so i dont think our kids will be outgrowing the high back boosters.........sarah and max were using seatbelts only by the age of 5....so things have come a long way.......

5 feet? You mean I can sit in a car seat? LOL

We are going to need a new car seat at least in DH's car, Karina is seriously outgrowing that one!
