Chalkboard Paint...has anyone every used it???

i want to paint a chalkboard in the kids playroom....i could always just buy a chalk board but i think a painted one will be kind of cool...plus they wouldn't be able to pull it down on accident

has anyone ever used chalkboard paint??

does anyone know if they make a magnetic chalkboard paint??

or can i paint some kind of magnetic material over it???

thought and ideas are appreciated Smile

I have used it!! I painted the small attic door in the boys room. I used metallic paint under it so it could be a magnet board, and then painted chalkboard on top. I did it in SD's room too. I don't recommend the magnet board paint, it takes WAAAYYY more than they say. I would definitely reccomend the chalkboard paint though. I used Rustoleum, use a roller instead of a brush.

I thought you had used it before Allie....thanks....I know you said you don't recommend the metallic paint but did it work..did Rhondda really sick to it...I may just use it along the ledge ...my intentions are to put magnet little buckets for the chalk and stuff and a place to put pens and pencils so that they stop hanging on my junk drawer in the kitchen every time the go to get a pen

although I can always just use a couple of the 3m hooks

thanks Kelly

I know you already painted it, but my 2 cents on the metallic paint is, you need TONS to get it to be magnetic, and even then it barely holds a regular fridge magnet, there's no way it will hold buckets and pens. I would put hooks on the wall and hang little buckes or something.

thank you allie......i didn't use the mettalic paint.....i am just going to use hooks instead

and home depot sells the rustoleum chalkboard paint that you can get tinted with color.....really cute....but i just went with the black...the colors i liked were more 'girly' colors which i loved but since its a bigender (not even a word i don't think LOL) playroom i didn't want to go with lavender or periwinkle Wink

That and the chalk shows up so much better on the black anyway. I think what you did looks great.
