I stink, literally.

Seriously, I have the worst body odor. I smell like I never use deodorant. My antiperspirant is working, I'm not sweating, I just smell like I am. WTH? I remember this while nursing Jaxon, but it wasn't this bad and it didn't last this long. The longer I nurse Abigail, the worse it gets. What's up with that? Is there anything I can take or eat to combat this? Doesn't matter if I shower several times a day or apply deodorant several times a day, I still stink after about 3 hours.

Are you sure? I remember thinking the same thing with Alicia and again with DJ...but neither time I actually was...my super acute nose was making things up. Ask DH. Mine said it wasn't actually an issue, it was more the smell of milk than BO. Otherwise, perhaps body sprays? Sorry, no real help here.

Oh no, DH says I smell worse than the men's locker room at the gym. And he also does think it is getting worse.

I swear by Secret Clinical Strength, if you use it properly like the directions say. I rarely read directions, but for this I did lol! You are supposed to apply it at night before bed to clean pits. You can apply it again after a shower, etc, but it's important to not fail the night application. Degree also has a clinical strength one too, haven't tried that one.

Did you find it to work any better than Mitchum? The active ingredient strength is the same. Just not looking forward to shelling out the 10 bones for that stuff. I guess as this point I don't have a choice. I mean I showered on Sunday and I stink to high heaven today. Plus, It isn't entirely coming from just my pit area, it's like my whole upper body is oozing pit smell. ROFL

Ok, the shower on Sunday statement was supposed to be a joke, just thought I'd say that in case someone thought I was serious. Wink

I have tried every.thing, including Mitchum, which didn't touch my summertime funk. Seriously, I don't sweat a lot, but no 'regular' deodorant, not even the highest whatever the active ingredient is, can touch it. Sounds narsty, but pretty much Secret clinical is the only thing that makes me not stink to high heaven when it's warmer weather! I start using it the first warmer days and don't stop til it's consistently cool out! I double up though, use it at night and again after a shower or getting dressed....but I am SUPER paranoid about funkiness lol!!

I too have some major funk that almost nothing works against. In my late teens I discovered Mitchum and it worked for a while but it kept staining my clothes. Was using Degree for a bit but it stopped working. And now using Secret clinical strength. Maybe I should follow the directions though. I have to wash my pits twice a day and reapply deodorant. I usually shower in the morning because I found no deodorant would last through the night and also the next day. I definitely stank worse while nursing. It was horrible!!

I'd second the Secret recommendation.

Hilda, when I was just applying it like normal deo after a shower, etc, it worked for a little bit then kind of stopped...when I did do the night application it really did work. Now, it may not work for everyone, but I was one step away from going to the doctor about it because even though it wasn't a big amount of sweat as the problem, the stink that resulted was soooooooo embarrassing!!

Am going to try it as directed. Smile

I find the switching it up every 6 months or so really helps, too. After a while even the best deodorant seems to quit working.

I used Secret Platnum for years and years, then it stopped working so I switched it up.

For a good while, I found Arid Xtra Dry to work amazingly well at keeping my pits completely dry during the day. It was amazing. Until it stopped working (Id say after using it for over a year). Its cheap, so I would say try this first!

Now I switched to Degree clinical and it works GREAT. Im back to dry dry dry again and happy.

I did not like the secret clinical. I was still wet, not stinky, but still wet under arms. I vote for the degree clinical.

So I think you should try something new. I dont usually stink unless I perspire a lot, so keeping dry it what works for me. Good luck!

Candace, I don't think I have a ketosis issue happening. I eat plenty of calories. Wink

Ruth, I do wonder if the domperidone has something to do with with, or is contributing in some way.

i will switch up my deodorant and see if that helps things. Thanks guys.

I know back in college, the owner of the place I worked took garlic and eek he reeked of garlic.

Have you changed anything up in your diet or vitamins, etc? Have you checked out the side effects of the domperidone to see if that is a possible side effect?

GL with switching your deo!

If your excessive body odor smells like freshly baked bread, then you could be suffering from typhoid. If your body odor smells sweet, then you could have diphtheria. If your body odor smells stenchy and foul, it could be smallpox. If your odor smells like a butcher's shop, you could have yellow fever. If you have a putrid, pungent, and rotten body odor, you could be suffering from scurvy. If you smell musty like a sweaty locker room, then you could have phenylketonuria.
If you suffer from maple syrup smelling odor, you could have a metabolic disorder. If you are suffering from diabetic ketosis, you could smell a fruity body odor aroma, similar to rotting apples. Insulin used to for diabetes maintenance may also cause body odor to smell like acetone. In any of these cases, you should consult a physician immediately.
There are just a few of the many strange odors that can come from your body. There are many other strange body odors that can be caused by various medical conditions. Even menopause can cause a change in body odor due to the change in hormones.
You can check your diet as well to see if that is where your strange body odor is stemming from. Red meat, processed foods, garlic, onions, fish, liver, fried foods, spicy foods, curry, and alcohol can all give you a body odor that is more unpleasant than usual. Usually the smell of these foods will make it to the surface of your skin for easy diagnosis.
Try combating your strange body odor with an antibacterial soap wash daily and a good antiperspirant. You can also used body powders made to keep yourself dry and keep the bacteria that makes you sweaty at bay. Again, if the change is drastic and persists for more than a few days, see your doctor. There is always the possibility that it could be the cause of something more serious.

Well, it's good to know I don't have typhoid, diptheria, small pox, yellow fever, scurvy, or phenylketonuria (whatever the heck that is). And since I don't smell like rotting apples, then the diabetic keytosis is out the window too.

BUT, I did note a brief mention of menopause in there.

And, since I really don't smell like a particular food, it's not in my diet. Maybe all I need to do is eat more chocolate, then I could walk around wanting to lick myself. ROFL

Okay.. you guys are cracking me up! Where else in the world can women talk about such "delicate" things and not get looked at like a crazy person Smile

So DH and I ... We both switched to deodorant only.. no antiperspirant. Seriously... It works. The antiperspirant made us both sweat more. It is like your body's way of saying.. "stop me from sweating? No way, i am going to do it ten times worse now! hahaha"

I have been using the Toms of Maine deodorant and LOVE it. Seriously.. I don't stink AT ALL anymore, even after working out. Do I sweat sometimes, sure.. but nothing like I did with antiperspirant. Oh.. and I stunk like stinky feet when I would smell. REALLY bad!
