My CTR - updates post 13, 19

Per Mels request and because I really want to write stuff down so I remember.

Tonight I went to see Les Mis. 1, cool because it's been running for 25 years, and 2 the cast is AMAZING! Have any of you caught the 25th anniversary special on PBS? The cast I saw had Alfie Boe as Valjean, and MAtt Lucas as Thernardier (like the 25th anniversary special). And then the guy who played Granteniere (the drunk studen) was Javert (he is also the music store owner in the 1st season of fresh beat band).

I still get chills just thinking about it. It was that good. I bawled like a baby at the first note, lol.

(sorry, if you're not a musical theatre nerd like me you probably don't care).

Tomorrow I am going to try to do some royal-y stuff.

Yahoo LOVE Les Mis!!!! It came to the Muny here in STL a few years ago and even though we normally sit in the nosebleed free seat section, we actually bought tickets for Les Mis. Smile Love the music and the story. Have you ever read the book? I want to someday... but Victor Hugo is not a man of few words. Smile

Thanks for keeping us updated!

Oh awesome!! How cool to see such a great cast! Oh I'm going to love the updates, please keep em coming!

And I suggest keeping a daily journal. I kept one when I went to Europe in 2000, and honestly I still read it frequently! Keeping track of what you are doing, seeing, etc every day will be so nice to look back on years from now!!

I've never seen Les Mis; I'm a take-it-or-leave-it spectator when it comes to musicals. More likely to go to the ballet or opera. But it certainly sounds like you had a great time!

Ironically, Prince William and Kate are here in my city right now. Downtown is pure madness. It is Canada Day and that always means millions converging for celebrations, but with the royal couple in town it is a hundred fold. I am staying safely in the burbs, lol.

Perhaps it won't be so crazy where you are as far as the royal family is concerned - the Queen might even feel neglected. Maybe go see she'd like someone to join her for tea. What royal-y stuff do you have in mind??

Sorry, with the I pad I can't edit the first post.

Today I went and walked around Buckingham palace and went to Westminster abbey. Looks just like it did on TV for the royal wedding. I walked through the horse guard place, too which was really cool. I walked across the river just to say I could and passed 10 downing st where the prime minister lives.

I did a little bit of souvenir shopping. And I came across a HUGE Canada Day celebration. Huge!

Tonight I got tickets (cheap) to see Dirty Dancing the musical, lol.

Em, thanks for the trip report!!!! I love hearing all of this. I haven't seen Le Mis, but have always wanted to. Maybe someday Abs and I can go together. Smile

I have to ditto Julie's suggestion. I kept a journal on my Africa trip. I did it in the form of letters to Rick. It is fabulous to go back and read it.

I sa at a cafe tonight and did a ton of journalling. Thanks for the push.

Saw Dirty Dancing tonight. It was ok. It was the first timenin the trip that I wished I was with an friend. It would have been more fun.

It's gay pride parade here tomorrow so that should be interesting. Trying to figure out what to do still. I think curiosity will win over and I'll have to go check it out rather than do a stuffy boring museum.

Ah, my brother was at that Canada Day celebration! You might have walked right by him!

LOVE Les Miserables. My dream job is to play Eponine on broadway. *sigh* I saw it when it was here in Toronto, it's amazing. I'm a sucker for musicals, too. And I have read the book, yep it's long. It goes into a LOT of amazing background info on even the most seemingly miniscule characters. But it's really a wonderful novel. Not light reading.

I'd definitely be heading to Pride if I were you!! They (Pride parades) are very different in countries outside of the US, where the general acceptance is greater for homosexuality. So, they can get quite exuberant and flambouyant! A lot of fun, but definitely not for the even slightly homophobic, lol!! Lol

Hope you're having a good time! If you see my brother give him a hug from me. I miss the HELL out of him. I'm so jealous of your trip right now!

Les Mis the book was the first book I downloaded on my kindle when I got it 2 years ago. Still not close to being finished, lol.

Went to the British library today. Then the British museum which was even to boring for a nerd like me. I saw the Rosetta stone, some mummies and then left.

Was walking towards the pride festival and shopping when a giant bronze Freddie Mercury appeared before me with a sign that said they had tickets for the matinee which was about to start in about an hour. So I got tickets to We Will Rock You. Awesome show. I mean, is there anybody that doesn't just love Queen?

Grabbed a sandwich on the way back to the room. Talked with miles and got ready for show 2 today. I already had tickets for Love Never Dies, the sequel to Phantom of the Opera. It was...well, the bad reviews weren't far off, lol.

But I wanted to see it because the guy who played Enjolras in the 25th anniversary of Les Mis played the phantom. He was great. And I made 2 new friends (gay men from Tampa) and we waited by the stage door to see him. And he smelled DAMN good, lol.

I did walk through a bit of the pride festival and was a bit disappointetd at the lack of flamboyancy. But I didn't have the time to investigate too much more.

Jordan - if your brother was in line for Tims I probably did see him and was jealous. I'm surprised at how much canadian stuff there is here. 2 specifically Canadian restaurants and several Canada shops within just a few blocks of the hotel.

Someone asked what Tim Hortons was. It's a Canadian coffee and donut place.

Canada is part of the British Commonwealth, so our countries are buddy/buddy. Smile Not sure if my bro would have been getting a Timmies though, he's not much of a coffee drinker.

I'm so jealous of all the musicals you're seeing!!! I've heard great things about We Will Rock You! It is (or was) here in Toronto and my mom saw it and said it was great.

Glad to hear you're making so much use of your time there! Can't wait to see pics!

I don't like musicals at all, but a Queen musical, I'd be all over that!! It sounds like you are really having a great time, how cool it must be to just meander about doing whatever you want!!! I loved traveling with friends, but really enjoyed going off on my own and doing my own thing, what and when I wanted. Keep enjoying yourself girl!!

Karina - British museum not my thing but the Natural History museum on then other hand was AWESOME. I also went tot the tower of London and saw Love Never Dies the sequel to Phantom. Yes, it is as bad as it sounds, but the lead was fantastic. Home now. Have a kid attached to my hip but I don't really mind.

Will try to update more and upload pics when I have a free second.

Thanks for being my friends while I traveled (well and always)..

I think I've seen that PBS special like 3 times now and I cry every time! I saw it IRL a couple of times (NY & SF) and then I saw it with DH in London a couple Yrs ago and it was his first time...he looked at me during the scene when she's dying on the bed and he said,"I just can't hold it in anymore!" and he started bawling!! London, I think, was my favorite production. Omg I want to see it again, especially after watching the special!!
