Is everyone done shopping for Christmas? Please tell me no! I still have to buy for DH, my dad and father-in-law. ACK!
I'm done. I have no choice but to be though since Christmas starts this weekend for us!! We aren't doing a "big" gifty Christmas this year anyway. Just lots of time with friends and family.
almost done, just need to get the gift card for my nephew (game store!) then wrap the last 5 or 6 things and i'm done. even down to only one batch of cookies left to fill the freezer (2 batches of fudge, okay 3 but we ate one! 1 batch nanimo bars and 2 batches cookies, covers our treats and neighbours gifts, with enough left over to make a box in a hurry if i forgot someone!)
What are Nanimo bars?
oh heavens no we can't have this at all!
this is a nanimo bar
and this is the recipe!
what you need
6 squares Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate, divided
3/4 cup plus 1 Tbsp. butter, softened, divided
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups Honey Maid Graham Crumbs
1 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional, i like pecans)
2 Tbsp. Bird's Custard Powder
3 Tbsp. milk
2 cups icing sugar
make itMICROWAVE 2 chocolate squares and 1/2 cup butter in large microwaveable bowl on MEDIUM 2 min. or until butter is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Blend in egg and vanilla. Stir in graham crumbs, coconut and nuts. Press onto bottom of 9-inch square pan. cool completely.MIX custard powder and milk in medium bowl with whisk until well blended. Add 1/4 cup of the remaining butter; mix well. Gradually beat in sugar until well blended. Spread onto crust. Refrigerate 15 min.MICROWAVE remaining chocolate and butter in microwaveable bowl on MEDIUM 2 to 3 min. or until butter is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Spread over custard layer. Refrigerate several hours or until chilled before cutting into bars.
Make it Easy
For easy removal of dessert from pan before cutting into bars, line empty pan with foil or parchment paper, with ends extending over sides of pan. Then, use the foil handles to remove chilled dessert from pan before cutting into bars.
Mocha Nanaimo Bars
Blend 3 Tbsp. coffee-flavoured liqueur with 2 tsp. Maxwell House Instant Coffee Original Roast granules. Substitute this for the 3 Tbsp. milk used to prepare custard layer.
Red or Green Nanaimo Bars
Prepare as directed, adding 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract and a few drops green or red food colouring to filling with butter.

Still have to get my moms present, and wrap everything. Annabelle is getting WAY to much Duplo (seriously, six sets plus the generic) and a fair bit if other stuff.
Oh my gosh Mara! These sound fantastic! I had never heard of them before! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
The boys are pretty much done. Not much money this year. Still have to finish making a few things and get something for DH and my parents.
I am done except for wrapping everything, which I don't look forward to. LOL I took a long lunch break on Tuesday and finished up then. I can't believe we're so close!!
I decided to take the 23rd off of work so I can finish up last minute things and wrapping. I am off the week between Christmas and New Year so I am just starting vacation a day early! YAY!
so i thought i was done, then i went to the mall again with sil! she bought jade some games (hasbro elefun and pop goes froggio) then went to chapters to find her the dump truck dh wanted so she can "ride" around the house and found a plasma car instead! lol the thing is so cool and she'll never outgrow it, there's a 220lbs weight limit and the cashiers said they ride on it, sil and i tried it and we watched jade steer around the bookstore for 20 min! http://plasmacar.com/ must start leaving child and credit card at home! lol!!
HA! That is totally how it is! You think you are done and then boom, you see something that our little ones just have to have!!! I am notorious for just running to the store for something quick and totally getting distracted by something I know Alison would love! HA! Leave credit cards at home!!!!
wouldn't be so bad but dh hates me doing the groceries anytime of year for the same thing, a 4 item list becomes a cart worth! LOL i tell him it's winter therapy from the weather!
I'm the same way ... although I think I am done done done now. Having said that, I think I'm going out to the mall tomorrow, and I'm sure I'll find one or two more things to get the girls.
I am just about done. I still need to get the groceries for Christmas Eve and make a run to the liquor store. Oh and I do still need to find something for DH. He is so hard to shop for.
spouse always seems the hardest, i just made it a video game year, world of warcraft back up and running with all expansions (its been 3 years!) dsi fixed, and the yugioh game he's been looking for. oh and a flashlight and crayola glow lantern! lol he wanted a camp lantern for under the house so the crayola is a gag gift from jade!!!
