Screaming

It needs to stop NOW! Nathan is driving me insane with this screaming he has been doing for the past week. It's not a cry, but a scream. If I offer him something and he doesn't want it, he screams. If I tell him no, he screams. If I take away his binky, he screams. If I ask him to sign "more", he won't do it anymore and just screams. I am ready to just scream! ha! So far, nothing has helped. Any ideas on how to make it stop?

No, but I'm right there with you! I've noticed it's far worse when she's ready for a nap, so my current solution is to pop her in her crib and see if she'll nod off, usually works about 90% of the time.

we get the screaming here as well... recently he's sort of stamp his feet along with it (which is kind of funny actually!!)

what helps?? sometimes he'll sign 'more' or 'help' and we can sort it out that way. Other times I do what I can to distract him - pull out a toy and start to play with it, lie down on the floor with his teddy and say 'cuddles' (he'll come over and cuddle with me and the teddy...)
sometimes nothing works and I just have to go about my business with a screaming toddler in the background...
gaahhh... it's an awful sound isn't it?

upscale of having a mood disorder i decided to teach jade young to take a deep breathe, calm down, and ask or show us. she resisted and did the temper tantrum for about two days, at which point she got a time out in her room, then we talk (basically 'are you okay now? no more screaming? okay then' then back in if she did it again, 1-2 min at a time) now she will keep taking a deep breathe until she is calm then show us or find something else. (ps the docs love this at exam time! lol!) good luck and remember mommy's allowed a time out too!

Yes, yes and yes! Just yesterday I had to tell Jordan to stop screaming so many times. I know it's out of frustration so I am doing my best to try to encourage her to communicate her needs and feelings. The "help" sign is a big one. I am also trying to teach her the sign for "frustrated" so she will be able to recognize and describe her feelings. Eventually I hope that her being able to recognize her emotions will also help us deal with them. Of course in the mean time, I think we all will be hearing some screaming it seems!

Oh gosh.... Silas is screaming too. And not only when he's frustrated. Just in the middle of the room, he's playing, and BAM one high-pitched scream to go! He screams when he's excited too, so if I'm chasing him around, he SCREAMS with delight! Not yelling... oh no... that high pitched, if-he-could-hit-that-note-as-an-adult-we'd-be-rich-singer-parents kind of scream!!!!!! It's driving me nuts! He doesn't give a flying iced cube about signing either, leastways when he's screaming. The only thing I can do is give him a little blow of air in the face, but that's only when he's doing one scream after another.

Okay, I'm now in the boat with you ladies. A little late, though... please tell me it's stopped for your little ones and give me some hope. LOL

Maia has just been screaming over things ALL day. I think my eardrums may have bled at one point. She'll be screaming bloody murder one minute and the next minute be so sweet and happy...

Yeah it was just a phase. He used to do it ALLLLL the time. Now it is only every so often. Much better than it was!
