Toddler bed success! (x-posted to Parents of Twins/Multiples)

Our bedtime routine we try to keep the same as much as possible. Over the past week or so, sometimes when we would go in the bedroom with Spark, she would climb into our bed, lay her head on my pillow and pull up the covers.

Obviously, this was a BIG sign to us that she was ready to try a toddler bed. That and she absolutely HATES her crib.

Being poor, I fashioned a platform out of diaper boxes on the ground and put her crib mattress on that. It's about 8 inches off the ground, so I put some pillows beside it in case she fell off. I folded up a soft blanket and put it in a pillow case so she'd have a small pillow.

The first night... she went down like a champ! She didn't want me to leave at first, (and did the patented Spark hug where she clings to your neck lol) so I cuddled her, gave her kisses and nuzzled her nose until she drifted off. It took maybe 5 minutes. We were really surprised! It's been 3 naps and another night since then and she's really taken to it!

So yay!! No more crying in the crib every night! I can't even believe it! :vibes:

Impressive! I'd be nervous to let Katie roam free in her room (or at least potentially roam during the night), I think she'd pull all the stuff out of her drawers and pull the nightlight out of the wall (and try to plug it back in). So glad it's going well for you.

Glad it's going well! Annabelle has been in a toddler bed since mid-July when she decided to climb out of her crib.

That is awesome!!! We are actually in the process of converting Alison to a toddler bed as well. She climbs right out of her crib and it is at the lowest setting.

I'm so happy that Spark did so well!! I can't believe how many we have in toddler beds!

Confession: Toddler beds scare the bejezus out of me. I don't ever want Maia in one! ROFL The idea that she could get up and roam is enough to give me gray hairs!! How do you mommas handle it???

I keep hoping she'll just never figure out this climb out of the crib trick. But she's already trying to climb IN so I imagine climbing out is the next stop..

My son didn't move out of the crib until he was almost three (when Katie was born and we needed it again) so I have no idea!!! Although we never did a toddler bed, he went straight into a twin bed with a bed rail on it. I think we will turn the crib mattress into a toddler bed for Kate though, because DS is using the twin mattress, so we can put off buying another mattress for a while.

my son was in a toddler bed at 1 because that was our only option, but believe it or not if he got out of the bed he immediately went to our bedroom. he still does that and hes 3. i never worried about him getting up and playing with things without waking me up first. its a pain in the arse to keep putting them back in their bed at that age though. when they dont want to go to sleep they will constantly get up and out of the bed. that is why kylee will be in a crib until shes 18 ROFL i like being able to put her in her bed, shut the door, and not worry about her coming out of her room every 3 seconds!

Thanks ladies!

We have our bed, Spark's bed, and Silas's crib all in our tiny room. When Spark wakes up and sees she's in a dark room "alone" she cries, and we keep the door closed just in case, so she doesn't get out and get into things! Thank goodness. :vibes:

That is great news!! So happy it is been an easy transition with no more crib tears!
And what a creative mommy you are too!

I'm with Amanda about being worried about them in a toddler bed. Only because I don't want to deal with the extended bedtime routine of constantly putting them back to bed.

I've already mentioned to DH how lucky we are that neither one of them has tried to climb out of their cribs yet.

I am more scared to have her fall from the top of her crib as she is climbing out!! I figure her room is fairly safe since it is just her toys and her dresser is anchored to the wall and she has not figured out how to open her closet doors yet. And she can't turn the door knob to get out of her room because of the door knob cover lock thing, so if she does get out, she just plays with her toys and will fall asleep on the floor and I just move her back to her bed. Or, she will knock on the door and when I open it she says bed and gets into bed with us! HA!

we made her room 'toddler safe' by making sure that anything she could hurt herself on was out, there's a childs tent for her toys and the little boom box for her music is in the playpen hiding the cord (for some reason she hasn't been able to climb or knock it over!!) there's a big quilt folded on the floor if she falls out (which she has, we found her under the bed once) and for mommy to sit on for stories. most of the time though she doesn't even get out of bed she just sits there and bangs it against the wall or talks to herself till we come in! also have a gate across the opening of her doorway (theres a small corner so we can close it then close the door!) to the bolded! i get to sleep in when she plays with the toys on her bed instead of waking me up at nasty hours! lol!!
