Update

Well, we brought Nathan to the allergist last week and he said that he doesn't think he has allergies but we are going to test anyways. He went to the dermatologist on Monday and he took one look at Nathan and said it is eczema. He also went along and said that there is no relation between that and food. Well, every single article I have read says otherwise. I read another article that said eczema and cradle cap and allergies are closely related. He has a bad case of cradle cap that I can't seem to get rid of. I soaked his head in olive oil last night and scraped most of it off. Took off a little hair too. Oops! Looks much better today. Anyways, the dermatologist prescribed a cream for his face and we started him on that last night and his face looks better already. We are going to bring him in for allergy testing on Friday. Well, I shouldn't say we. I am letting DH do this one! Nathan is NOT gonna be happy about it. It is a skin prick test on his arms. Basically, they take a small plastic piece with an allergen on the end and scrape it across his arm to leave a small dot. If it swells up, it usually means there's an allergy. I googled some pics and it doesn't look like much fun. I guess they write/draw all over their arms too to label which one is which. We have a follow-up on Monday to see the allergist and take it from there. I will try to update when I get the chance.

I feel so bad for him. He hasn't caught much of break since he got sick in November. It seems like it has been one thing after another. And I feel like I am getting the run-around on half of this stuff. How can a dermatologist say that foods will not cause eczema? And seriously, his pediatrician couldn't tell me it was eczema? But then again, the rash looked very different when I showed him (pedi) pictures. It was more hives than anything...which leads me towards the allergy testing. I don't know what to do anymore. It is all getting so frustrating.

It started out looking like this in January. It is kinda dark but you get the idea.

And this is what it looks like now.

Looks like 2 completely different rashes to me. But then again, I am not a doctor, so what do I know!

Poor baby!! I'm glad they may finally know what's up, but I thought eczema could be caused by foods?? I think the environment plays a big role, too--my bff had it horribly here in KY but has no trouble from it out in San Francisco. I hope they can give you the answers to help him feel better. The allergy test is a good idea, just to cover the bases, but I know it won't be fun for the little guy. Good luck, Nathan! I'm thinking of you!

My nephew had a very similar problem. They cut out everything but chicken and rice thinking it was food related and that did nothing, changed laundry soap and shampoo, everything that was recommended, no one could figure it out, and then one day it just went away. All the dr's seemed to contradict each other on what the problem was, skin rash, food allergy, airborne allergens.... I'll ask my sister how long it was, I think about 5 months. It disappeared as fast as it came on. Hope it clears up soon Sad poor guy

glad you are getting somewhere with this all at least. that really sucks. wish i could be of more help, jade only gets cradle cap at the pool or when they'd chlorinate the water system at the apartment. hang in there, keep up the great work and kup! and yes they do look like two different rashes.

Well, he is not allergic to any foods. He goes back tomorrow for more testing. This time it will be for environmental factors. Cats, dogs, dust mites, ragweed, etc.
