Anyone else having success with forks and spoons?

Nathan has mastered the fork. He won't eat until I give him one now.

Spoon is a different story. I dread the spoon! I gave him one tonight with yogurt. What a mess!

ETA: Does your LO favor one hand more than the other? I think Nathan may be left handed. He does use both hands though.

kylee is good with the fork too! she doesnt eat much that would involve a spoon, so im not sure how that one would go. im sure everything would just fall right off of it. Lol

Maia has mastered hanging her spoon in the little hole on her tray where a toy can be attached.... ROFL

Sometimes she'll put food on the spoon and put it in her mouth and if you give a spoon to her with food on it, she'll put it in her mouth. But I haven't seen her use one correctly yet. I hadn't given her a fork yet because I was afraid she'd jab it in her eye. Maybe I should try her on one.

Nathan is such a cutie!!

jade almost has the fork down pat, she can get food everytime and shows that she knows how, now its just a matter of how much food gets on the fork and then makes it too her mouth! the spoon she's a pro at as long as it's something sticky, aka oatmeal. otherwise you have to keep the bowl with her all the way to her mouth! not really sure if she's favouring one hand over the other, it still seems to be a hand of convenience, if the 'server' is on the right she'll use that one etc so dh and i keep trading sides of the table so she gets some experience with both sides.
lol love the pic!!

Hey, I got Maia a little fork and she picked up her spaghetti with it and ate it!! She only did it twice but I was amazed. I'm so glad I have you ladies to learn from. I may have kept the fork away from her for a lot longer!

As for handedness, I hope she'll be a lefty because my grandmother was and Maia reminds me so much of her. But I haven't really noticed one way or the other yet.

J will 'try' with his spoon - if it's something sticky then he generally gets some into his mouth... although he's also been known to stick one end of the spoon into the bowl, and then put the opposite end in his mouth! lol
Haven't tried the fork too much.. then again, it's only in the last couple of weeks that he's even been eating much in the way of 'real' food.. so I'll let him stick with his hands for a while longer...
Pretty sure he's a righty... he does things with both hands, but seems to favour the right for more detailed moves like picking up small items and feeding himself...

PS: LOVE that pic of Nathan! lol

Annabelle is getting better and better with her utensils, and she better, as she won't let anyone feed her or help her anymore.

Alison has mastered both the fork and spoon however she does not want her little fork and spoon, she wants what I am using. The tines on an adult fork are huge compared to her little mouth. So I am on the look out for spoon/forks that are small but resemble regular ones.

She tends to favor her right hand but does tend to switch back and forth a lot. However, I did notice that when she is using a crayon, if she has it in her right hand she has proper form but in her left hand she just grabs it in a fist.

Jordan does really well with the spoon for the most part. Sometimes I hold the spoon as well and sort of help her get it to her mouth, especially when it's something that is more runny. There are times when she wants me to feed her and times when she wants to do it herself. I haven't giver her a fork yet. We don't have any toddler forks but she still uses her hands a lot for bite sized things.

She uses her left hand 99.9% of the time. That includes eating, drawing on her magna doodle, throwing, etc. She's been using her left hand for months now so I am starting to be more and more convinced that she will ultimately be left handed. We will see! I can't think of anyone in or family that is left handed except for my 3 year old niece and even she switches back and forth.

We've not attempted giving them forks yet - so scary! D & R are OK with spoons as long as it is sticky food (oatmeal/yogurt). It is still a huge mess afterwards.

They also both tend to favor their right hands, but still use both for different tasks.
