At Wit's End (Need help re: toddler bed)

Seriously, ladies. I need advice!! Maia has been a hellion since we went to the toddler bed. If I had had my choice we would not have done this until she was in college, but she was climbing out just as fast as we'd put her in the crib, so we had to change her over. We did all the things the books say to do (let her watch the crib come down, but the toddler bed in the same spot, let her pick out her own sheets) but she is crazy with this bed and has been since March. She was taking the mattress off and THROWING THE BED around the room. The frame. She could drag it around. We would go in and tell her no and put it back and it just wouldn't stop. So we took the bed out and left her mattress on the floor. Now she just throws it around. Every night for weeks we were going in and telling her no and putting it back, but then I thought maybe she thought it was a game. So we stopped going in and eventually she gets tired and goes to sleep on the floor (sometimes on the mattress) after she moves it around for an hour or so. I even put more toys in her room, like blocks and things to hopefully interest her, but apparently nothing holds the allure of this mattress.

I just don't know what to do. It's like I'm raising Baby She-Hulk here. Tonight she was sleeping WITH THE MATTRESS ON TOP OF HER. Once I saw that on the monitor I went in to remove it and I feel like my nerves are shot.

I need advice. Should we go to a twin bed?? At least she couldn't move that... I hope....

I seriously think this must be how Ma and Pa Kent felt when young Clark started lifting up tractors!! :o

LOL she hulk! love it! wish i could be more help but i'm not sure what else to suggest? we went double for jade and just mattress and box spring on the floor, (larger so momma can snuggle without being on the floor!) but her toddler was her crib convert and she was in a new room in new house so the bed just flowed with the changes. is the bed going all over and settling random or is it always going to the same spot? maybe she just wants a change of view. might just be tempting boundaries and she knows it bugs you? totally not helpful i know! i would say go the bigger mattress (found the waterproof covers at walmart for $7 can for the double for potty training!!!) and at least then you have it if it needs to come out for a while and let her crash on the floor, try bringing it back in every so often?
good luck momma i know this has been stressful for you for a while now Sad :bighug:

We converted Alison from the crip to the toddler bed months and months ago because she kept climbing out...but she would not stay in bed. At.all.ever. She was always saying "big bed" and coming into bed with us which secretly I really don't mind because she will be grown up soon enough. But anyway...so we took down the toddler bed all together and put the mattress on the floor. Same thing "big bed". So, we finally just got the full mattress we had in storage and put it on the floor. She is happy as a clam. I guess she just wanted a big bed. Now...she doesn't not stay in bed the whole night...still comes in around 1am to sleep with us. But that is fine by me. Before we got the big bed seriously...she would be up at all hours of the night playing and sometimes I would find her asleep in the closet or under the bed.

This thread is freaking me out. My DH and I have this conversation a couple times a week and it goes something like this. "I hope she doesn't learn to crawl out of her crib any time soon. Oh my gosh, it's going to be the END of naps. Seriously, any day now she might be doing this. Oh, please, please, please, don't let her learn to do this any time soon."

I think a twin might be your best bet. I can't believe she can move her mattress around like that! Jordan is strong and I'm impressed with what all she can pick up or move but I would still be surprised if she was pulling her mattress on TOP of her. At least you know she could not move a twin mattress and putting it on the floor would keep it low enough for her to get on and off with ease. I know you can buy rails but that would also be better as far as if she were to fall off, the floor would be right there.

I seriously cannot imagine how frustrated you are. When I put Jordan to bed, I'm done for the day. I'm exhausted and I'm always so relieved to have that time to myself to rest and relax. How frustrating to spend that time battling them!

Thank you, ladies. :bigarmhug: I was seriously freaking out the night I posted this. I went this weekend and purchased her a twin bed. It should be here on Thursday. I got a bed rail... I guess we'll go ahead and try to actual bed, but if that doesn't work out, hopefully THIS mattress on the floor will be big enough that she can't carry it around.

Mara--thanks. I agree about the bigger mattress. At least now one of us could bunk in with her, if needed. Great tip on the bigger water proof sheets!! Thanks, lady!!

Kristi: LOL! She did want a big bed!! I know what you mean about cuddling, but so far, at least, Maia's stayed in her room...knock wood. She's gotten out twice but only run halfway down the hall and then turned around and ran back in her room.

Kayla: That was exactly me and my DH. We even had it built into our nightly prayer for awhile there. LOL!! I so agree with you about being done and needing that time to ourselves. It's very stressful, and I hope that Jordan transitions a lot later and a lot easier!! Thanks for the advice!!

Keep us posted! She will probably love it! We thought about getting the whole frame and everything out of storage but then just decided on the mattress on the floor. I knew the first thing that she would do if we put up a rail would be climb over it. So having the mattress on the floor...no chances of falling off and if she does she is not that far from the floor.

LOL! Well, she enjoyed playing on the bed. She can get in and out of it, no problem. But...

She slept on the floor again.

So.... baby steps??? ROFL

And she tried her darndest to move it. But it did not budge. tee-hee. She wore herself out with that, I think!

Thanks for checking in, Mara!! :bigarmhug:
