The other night DH and I got to have a little adventure in l&d ... I was having contractions and some crampy back pain, so they wanted to monitor and check me to make sure I wasn't in labor. Everything looks good (whew!), I am 25% effaced and not dilated, but they did discover I have bacterial vaginosis. (I had no idea -- no symptoms whatsoever!) So I got an antibiotic.
Of course, I've been reading up on it and now I'm terrified of preterm labor. Has anyone else had this during pregnancy who can calm my fears?
I had never even heard of BV before I had gotten pregnant with my first son. I'm not sure why, but I've never had it outside of being pregnant & I'm thinking it may be due to all the extra hormones and things being thrown off from their normal state. The last time I went to the ER I had a UTI (only get those while pregnant too) and BV which was causing me to have contractions every 2 minutes. How they described it to me, both of those were irritating my cervix. I honestly have no idea how to tell if I have BV or UTI besides it being discovered because each time I had no symptoms at all whatsoever. I did hear about it causing pre-term labor, but you should be fine since yours was treated. I think at my appointment next week, I'll have them check just to be on the safe side because I honestly have no clue how to tell. Hope I was able to be of some sort of assistance.
This is what I had when I went to L&D to be checked for preterm labor! I got an antibiotic and after a week it was cleared up. They never actually said if I was in preterm labor, but that was when I went and had to be monitored for a while to make sure I didn't keep dilating. They said everything real quick and kinda seemed to wanna get me out of there ASAP since they had people waiting on rooms and no rooms available (gotta love the military lol).
I wouldn't stress about it too much since they caught it. And the antibiotics I took with milk to make sure I didn't get an upset stomach! I also didn't have any symptoms other than the contractions being horrible ha.
Glad that yours was caught too and that everything is getting treated.

I haven't dealt with that fun one either, but I will second, third, and fourth Karen's advice to take probiotics or eat live-cultured yogurt. OMGoodness the antibiotics during pregnancy rampage my system & give me really unpleasant yeast infections if I don't watch it! That, and cotton underwear helps too. Seriously, helping one problem causes another all too often! I hope yours clears up fast, so you don't have that on your mind all the time!
I've never heard of that either. I'm glad they are treating it and that its something that will clear up. Seems like if its something that will clear with those meds. then you should be fine unless it returns. I totally agree with taking some probiotic while on an antibiotic, those things kills all the good stuff too. Last thing you want is a yeast infection or UTI on top of the BV.

My dr last pregnancy actually tested for it very early on in my pregnancy and caught it so I didn't have any contractions or complications. I'm happy they caught it now and everything should clear up in no time.
