bfing fun

This bfing is going to be oh so fun for me....hope you guys don't mind a lil vent

Brief history of last bfing....thrush, clogged ducts (i think at least 3x) and I had mastitis twice. So needless to say from that I'm already paranoid. One new thing has been added to the pot since last time is I have benign tumors in both breasts (10+ one side and 15+ in the other, some are small a and some are 2-3cm diameter).

I thought I was sore from getting milk in but I notice it fluctuates and I can actually feel many of the tumors where I couldn't really before. I think as my milk changes it's pushing the tumors. I'm also worried I won't know if I get clogged ducts again.

I have a feeling I'm SOL while bfing but I just have to hope it gets better with time

oh and so far I haven't been able to wear my wrap b/c they hurt so much, for that reason too I hope they ease Smile

Geez... that sounds like no fun at all... Breastfeeding has enough discomfort when everything is going well, I can't imagine..

For me, the hardest part is still the huge production I seem to have.. It is a good problem to have because I have the reassurance that Heidi is getting enough milk (she has gone from 6-14 to 11-9!!!) but on the flip side, I'm sleeping on towels so I don't soak the bed, have extra shirts everywhere because I have soaked through breastpads, and go through a ton of receiving blankets each day to soak up all the milk that either drools out while nursing or sprays everywhere if she takes a break to catch her breath. So far the record distance is two feet!!!

Hope your body gives you a break and things get easier,
Heather

Lol Heather. I've sprayed about 2-3 feet too!

LJ I hope things start to get better. That really stinks that so much is happening while you're BFing!

My supply has pretty much evened out but I think a lot of that is because I stopped pumping so much. Des pretty much just nurses on the one breast because it produces more and he latches better on it. Although he does BF on the other but it's pretty painful every now and then.

At what point did your supply even out? Heidi is nearly 7 weeks old, and I don't remember it taking this long with my daughter.

I had someone tell me that I was having so much milk because I was nursing on both sides (usually one side per feed, but occassionally both).. does that make sense to anyone? I figured that no matter how I nurse whether it is both sides or one side, that my body should eventually regulate. Any ideas on this??

I think what probably helped even it out was when my mom came for a week I pumped in the morning and at night and BFed only once or twice during the day (and 2 times at night). He would take about 3-4 bottles a day. But since I wasn't pumping and BFing all the time my supply started going down. Of course every now and then I still get real engorged (for example this morning when I got up, because DH got up with Des for a feeding so I missed a feed) and still leak whenever that happens, but it occurs a lot less now than the first 6 weeks.

I usually only BF on one side though because if I do it on the left, my right leaks up to an ounce (I've measured before haha), which of course soaks the front of me! Whereas if I BF on the right, my left side leaks a little, but usually not enough to soak through my pad.
