Birth Control?

Have we asked this question yet? What is everyone planning for BC? I've never had to worry about it before because DH has always been deployed (for 6 months after DD1 and 10 months after DS). In fact, we have not used BC in our whole relationship!!! Lol... 7.5 years!!

I'd like to stay away from anything hormonal, but then our options are really slim. I don't think condoms will cut it.

So what are you planning?

Took the mini-pill after DD1. Taking it again after DD2.

The dr on base gave me the pill but I swear it's the one I took when I had DD1 and my milk dried up when I didn't pump one day (I pumped and gave her formula as well) and I wonder if that's why. My milk lasted a lot longer with DD2 and I was on the mini pill (I still had milk like a month after I stopped BFing and pumping with her!) This time they gave me the kind I had after DD1 and I haven't started taking it. I still have some mini pills left over from when I was on BC last and I took that until DH left. He will be gone for 6 weeks so I dunno what I'm going to do. The drs won't prescribe me anything else because they said I'll be fine as long as I'm 2 months PP. I think I'm gonna try calling the OBs office and see if they will give me the mini pill again. Although I really don't like taking the pill but DH and I don't like condoms (I HATE the smell!) and of course we don't wanna play the risk it game (right? ;))

Anyway, DH was gonna get snipped but they won't let him unless he's like 28 (or so they told me). However, I don't want him to because I don't feel quite done yet. Maybe in a few years I will, who knows. He says we're done, but I don't want him to change his mind down the line and regret getting snipped...okay I'm rambling now!

I was on the pill for six years and when I got off to start TTC, I found out I have PCOS, and for some reason I feel paranoid taking it again so I'm going with Mirena. It's non hormonal, so I'll still have to take Metformin to control my PCOS, but I'm not really interested in any of the other birth control. The Mirena last five years and we know we want to wait atleast that long before we have another baby.

Katie, what do they mean you'll be fine as long as your 2 months PP? I don't know if i would take that chance! One of my good friends has a nursling and just found out she is VERY surprisingly pregnant with #5!! Or were they talking about your milk supply?

Jenny, you may be pleasantly surprised at how pregnancy and birth can change PCOS. I also had it. It took us fertility treatments to get pregnant with DD1, and now 3.5 yrs later we just had #3 Biggrin I feel so blessed! I hope your PCOS changes for the better like mine did, and that you have no issues with pregnancy in the future!!

She meant my milk supply should be fine. Lol I guess I should've specified. But even so, I dunno if I wanna take that risk of my milk supply possibly dwindling being on the one pill. It's the Ortho Cyclen kind.

I prefer the Nuvaring, and would be using it again, if I hadn't gotten my tubes tied. I knew I was done making babies, but thought I might be sad about it after the fact. I'm still feeling like it was definitely the right thing to do, with three kids of my own and my stepson for holidays and summer vacation... that's enough kids for me!

Haven't figured this out completely yet... I like the idea of hormone BC in that it prevents the release of eggs rather than the IUD's which displace pregnancies... But I don't like the idea of taking hormones. I never have and it has never been an issue since it took us 5 years each time to get pregnant when we were trying! Now that we aren't trying I know that we would get pregnant easily... life is just like that, eh? We'll see... just today I was looking at Heidi, who is growing WWAAAYYYY to fast, and the thought went through my mind "I want another baby" WHAT!!!! She is only 8 weeks old.... no wonder there are 7 billion people on this planet.... Can't beleive my subconcious is thinking that already!!

that's okay...as stressed as I am I still want another one (not now, but sometime in the future). I just don't feel done. And DH is so set on being done that right now just the thought of actually being done makes me want to cry! Lol I think part of it is hormones ha ha

We haven't even discussed this much at all, sadly. I refuse to take hormonal BC of any kind because it affects me negatively, but like Ariel said, that leaves a very slim list of options, and condoms really aren't one. We may end up trying NFP, but my cycles have never been regular and were VERY irregular after DD when I got pg with DS. I guess my answer is, I don't know.

Well I got the Mirena put in today. It did not feel good at all, but it will last for 5 years. Anna, Mirena is an IUD that is hormonal free. It also regulates periods and overtime they may go away.

We practice NFP but that is pretty impossible while I am nursing. I won't use anything hormonal either and an IUD just isn't for me right now. Condoms and pull & pray is what goes on usually until my cycle returns. We'd be more careful if we were done having kids and I'll have to think more about that after our next one.

I start the mini-pill this coming Sunday, and then in July I'll get a depo-provera shot and get Essure the following month. We are done, and I don't want any oopsies!

I started the mini pill a couple of weeks ago. I took it after DS as well and must say I really liked not having AF the whole time I was on it! Actually the last time I got AF was July 2009, just before getting pg withDS!

I'm on the mini pill & so far so good! No crazy side effects & no decrease in my milk supply. I really like this pill. I've been on combination pills before & the depo & had HORRIBLE side effects.
