:( braxton hicks :(

Dear Mr Braxton Hicks,

I do not like you visiting me and I would really appreciate it if you disappeared until after 30ish weeks..

Thank You,
Not Your Friend

UGH I am sooooo tired of them! I had them starting at 16 weeks with Carter and it seems like this pregnancy is going to be a repeat. I get them all day long anytime I am doing any type of activity. They actually are very annoying and so what painful. Sad

Ditto! I have been having them off and on for weeks, but it seems like a lot today. And they're crampy, which they weren't with my previous pregnancies.

Ugh.

I guess I'll have to consider myself lucky on this one since, to the best of my knowledge, I've never had any BH contractions. I thought they were supposed to be mild and painless though. They way you describe it, it sounds more like torture!

I have been having them for weeks too... Not painful, but definitely there. I am usually so distracted by everything else, I will suddenly realize that I am doing something awkwardly (like trying to empty the dishwasher without bending over!) and then realize it is because my muscles are so tight I can't move properly. Luckily I haven't had as many the last week or two ... not sure why not... but not complaining!!

I have definitely been having them and I swear they can be painful!

I hate them and wish I didn't have them!!! I don't even remember having them with my first one and with my 2nd one they didn't come until later. I'm not so lucky this time.

I have had a few. I've had new ones that are actually painful, after sneezing. I imagine BH is what it is anyway.. it lasts for at least a minute, if it's an especially hard sneeze. It doesn't help that I have allergies and a sick kiddo!

For you BTDT moms:

I'm wondering if you can explain what BH feels like? I'm having all sorts if different "feelings"- some I think are round ligament pain, but in the last week I swear I felt little fluttering from the babies. But over the last few days, I'm feeling something different... Hard to explain. It's almost a mini muscle spasm but it is an isolated spot, not my entire belly. Where would one feel the BH? At 16 wks now with triplets, I am nervous about PTL and early contractions. Doc said to call him if I Feel contractions -ie a tightening of the stomach- now I wish I had asked more detail what to look for.

oh no Sad
I'm not looking forward to that. I had tons with ds and the last month barely walking down the hall set them off for hours.

They feel like hardening and loosening of the stomach. I think some get it once, mine were on/off actually like contractions and sometimes lasted and hour. I think the difference really is that if you're having reg contractions then time them, if the timing is same (or getting shorter) then could be real if they're all over the place (like 5min apart then 10min apart, then 7min then it's bh)

Amanda this sounds more like round ligament pains. It's a sharp (cramp-like) feeling, especially noticable if you move or stand-up too fast, empty your bladder, sneeze, cough. It's normally felt on one side or the other, but can be in the middle as well. It lasts anywhere from about 15-60 seconds or so.

BH are more of a tightening and releasing that happens over and over again. I also had them beginning very early with my 2nd pregnancy. They were not painful or anything (in the beginning anyways) for me, but I have heard some people mention they are crampy. I normally feel them around my uterus, so right now for us, that would probably be under our belly buttons. Sometimes you can feel it in your back, or very low above your pubic bone.

ITA with LJ. Mine were timeable every 2-3 minutes for hours and hours, but the keys are ... increase in cervical mucous, and intensity. If they are crampy, or increasing in intensity this early, and/or if you are having a significant change in cervical mucous, then I would definitely call the doc.

Bluelotus I would pay particular, which I am sure you are. And you may feel that your uterus is higher since you are carrying multiples.

BH are not always bad... it's sortof like your uterus training for labor.

I fortunately never had BH with my first pregnancy, but I constantly wondered, "How will I know if it's contractions!? I don't even know what they feel like!" Well... you KNOW. Haha. I went 4 days overdue, but early in the morning on the 3rd day I woke up with my whole midsection tightening up and it would hold that way for maybe 30 seconds, then release. It would happen again maybe 10 minutes later. There was just no question that they were contractions. At that point, they weren't at all painful, but certainly enough action to wake me up, ya know? I'm not 100% positive on this, but I don't think BH's just happen in one isolated spot. I think it's all over, like regular contractions (just on a more mild scale, of course).

This is different than any round ligament pain I've ever felt, which are a constant with me for my other pregnancies. I never had a functioning contraction with either of my other kids so really I have no idea, but this is pretty painful (at least 3-4 times as painful as round ligament stuff I'm used to), wrapping from bottom & around/over the top of the uterus, which is exactly as I've heard real contractions should feel. That's the only reason I think it's something different. Either way, it went away after a while of several 1 minute rounds, and hasn't happened since, so I'm not concerned anyway. Smile

Thank you all for the info. Based on what you're telling me, I don't think I'm feeling BH (yet). I haven't had a tightening of my entire uterus, it's small isolated spots, like the diameter of a few inches, and it feels like a little muscle spasm. If I'm lying down when it happens I put my fingers on the spot and it feels like little pulsing/tapping from inside. Originally I thought it was movement (the doc said that with trips I could be feeling movement now), but at last appt he kind if got me nervous about contractions.

I'm definitely going to continue a close watch and try timing ect as some of you suggested. Thanks again for all of the info- it really helped!

I've been getting them when I over do it. Its a good reminder for me to sit down and drink some water instead of the non-stop going going going I always do. Much earlier this time than last. I never had any with my first.

I've been getting them off and on too. Mine are like mild AF cramps. Not looking forward to the stronger ones like I had with my 2nd around 20-22 weeks!
