Constipation?

Last night Desmond didn't sleep too well. He usually does pretty good stretches at night (from about 9 to 3 then up about 5 and asleep til 8 ). However at about 430 or 530 he was up and just really fussing a lot. I had him lay on me to sleep and then next to me while I patted his back. Finally after his 830 feeding he was farting a lot and when I changed his diaper there were chunks along with his usually really runny stools. This happened yesterday too but it didn't seem to hurt him a lot. I just changed another one that had chunks in it as well.

The only thing I have done differently in the past week was give him one dose of that vitamin d the dr gave me. But I can't bring myself to keep giving it to him because of how it smells and how he spit some out and such...plus we do go outside and he sits by the back window a lot.

But he is strictly breastfed (not even a bottle since DH isn't here) and I don't give him any solids or cereal or anything (I'll admit I did with my other two before 2 months but I haven't with him). Could something I'm eating be making him constipated? Or do all babies end up getting constipated at some point? I mean maybe he's not really constipated but the way he strains sometimes makes me think he is, esp when he cries because his tummy seems to hurt (and I don't think it's colic because this rarely happens, it's not an every day thing).

Any ideas?

We are like in tune here! Maggie is having the same issue now. She just had a rough time getting her poop out and it was like camo green and like peanut butter. Not her normal liquidy. Seems she has to really work it out too and it was uncomfortable. Sad

Yes! His is a greenish when usually it's yellow.

I wish it didn't hurt him to poop. He's already done it twice today so I'm hoping maybe that'll be the end of it.

Peyton has had the same issues for a few weeks his pediatrician says it is completely normal.

Okay, as long as it's normal. I was just getting worried. I hope it clears up soon...for all our LOs!!!

My doctor said that constipation in exclusively breast fed babies is very very rare, and anywhere from a couple poops a day to one every 10 days is normal... just different babies digestive tracts have different schedules. Heidi had a lot of gas and seemed uncomfortable a week or so ago but I've started burping her halfway through feedings and that seems to have helped.

Hope it clears up for all the little ones,

Heather

Mylicon drops? They sure helped my DS1 with his tummy problems......at least for gas......ask your pediatrician!

Yeah we've been using those if he gets real gassy. But they don't always seem to work. :/

My little man was going #2 at least half of his diapers every day... until last week. He all of a sudden saved it up for one poop every other day, and HOLY COW that was a loaded diaper! He's closer to once a day now, but at least it's not saved up for days at a time. I have a friend whose children all have constipation issues, and it makes me nervous to wait several days. Sad

Well good news is he's pooped at least 3 times today and all have been the usual liquid with no chunks! So that makes me feel better. However he is still real gassy and I've been giving him gas drops again.
