Cramps

I have been having cramps since last night. They're not real sharp or anything, but they do hurt. They're in my uterus (ha since I was in the ER at 5 1/2 weeks I've been trying to identify where ALL the sharp pains and cramps are located). It got bad last night where if my lower abdomen was touched it hurt really bad (my husband accidentally laid his hand there). I got up to go to the bathroom and when I peed it hurt like I was dehydrated (my sides would hurt real bad).

I know some cramping is normal, but since this pregnancy is so different than my other two I feel like I'm new to this! There was no spotting or blood or anything and my husband and I did have sort of rough sex last night a few hours before the cramps started. Do you think this is anything I should be concerned about?

I would call my dr, but they would probably tell me to go to the ER and I don't want to wait 3-5 hours for them just to come take my blood and MAYBE do an exam and u/s (it depends on what dr is working if they'll even do an exam). Ha, I feel like I'm extremely paranoid, which maybe I am.

It doesn't hurt to move or anything (maybe sneeze, but just in my side) and the cramps have stopped for now (although they were there off and on very mildly this morning). I've been drinking Ginger Ale and 1/2 juice 1/2 water drinks. I even recently started drinking some of that pedialite junk (it doesn't take very good, ha ha).

Anyway, how normal are these cramps? Is anyone else experiencing them?

Your doctor won't see you??? Thats crazy. If it were me I would try and see the doc but don't know that I would go to the ER. I would say round ligiment but that usually happens when you move and you said it doesn't hurt to move.

Maybe try drinking a lot of water today and see if that helps. The fact that it hurts when you pee also raises some red flags to me. Do you have an urgent care clinic where you can just walk in and see a doc (but not ER)? What about your regular doc? Would he see you if your OB won't?

I live at a military base. They told me before if I get concerned about things they would send me to the ER instead of making an appt (maybe because it's free either way? Plus just trying to get an appt is hell!)

Could it be braxton hicks contractions?

EH...gotta love the "common sense" of the military ROFL (I'm an ex-army wife to BTDT) If it were BH I would think it would feel more like contrax...I have no idea. I'm on #3 but some days feel like it's #1

It could be a few times UTI, Kidney Infection, dehydration.. Or even BH I am already having BH.

Can you visibly see your veins, dry mouth? I hope you feel better.

Sometimes I hate the military ha ha. Their reasons never make sense to me!

And I can't see my veins any more than normal. I always wake up dry, but as soon as I start moving it's not dry anymore (then of course I get my drink after getting my younger daughter up). I've been having bad headaches the past few days. They usually come in the afternoon/evenings with morning sickness. The m/s will go away usually after about an hour or two but the headaches last until bedtime. I haven't been taking Tylonal because I've only found Tylonal PM and I read that has Benadryl in it (and go figure, I'm allergic to Benadryl ha ha).

You should maybe go get check out to rule out a UTI or kidney issue? Up your water intake to see if it helps?
I get cramps after we DTD regularly now. Even worse if I O. Didn't notice that issue until later in pregnancy with the last 2 but this time it has been happening since really early on. Its pretty painful. However, the cramping is there for a few minutes and then after I relax and lay down it goes away. I would get it check out, personally, if it lasted a long period of time.

I would also guess UTI first & foremost. If you don't want to wait until you see someone, it might be worth a shot to drink tons of cranberry juice (not cocktail), drink LOTS of water, and avoid too much sugary stuff. Whatever it is, I hope it resolves itself quickly!

I've been having some sharp pains and cramps too. The headaches too, but those are common for me anyway and I had them with DD. I would say to just make sure that you drink lots of water and take it easy for a while and see if that helps. If you feel like it might be a UTI or kidney infection you should get that checked out, but otherwise I would just kind of wait it out, unless you start bleeding.

I say that because I had some bleeding at 17 weeks with DD and went to the ER. The ER doc, after an u/s and waiting for 3 hours with a painful catheter (in case they needed more images) told me that it was placenta previa and that there was a 50% chance of losing the pregnancy and then sent me home. A week later at my regular OB appointment he informed me it was a subchorionic hemmorage and that my baby was in no danger. I HATE the ER. And if something bad does happen, there's not really anything they can do.

I hope that it's nothing at all serious, but KUP on how you are doing.

The sharp pains sound more like round ligament pain to me. Your round ligaments run from the top of your uterus and around and all the way to the bottom of your abdomen. Many women report that they feel round ligament pains more often on the right side, but I know personally, I have felt them on both sides, and also very low like almost to my pubic bone.

I do think the cramping could be related to the sex, especially if it was vigorous (lol). Some spotting afterwards would even be normal. Though I know it's easier said than done not to worry. I have been told before that as long as you don't have cramping and bleeding together, or extreme like toe-curling cramping that it's probably normal.

**And just a side note**

If you go to Tricare Standard, they cover 100% of maternity care. I switched while I was pregnant with DS and I've never gone back to Prime. They used to have a lock-out period for a year (if you switched to standard you couldn't go back to prime for a year), but that is not the case anymore. If you don't like it, you can switch right back to Prime. On Standard you can choose any provider that you want. I go off base to an OB about 30 minutes from here (b/c he is super duper awesome), and outside of military healthcare, you are treated completely different. My doc has his own practice and it is always just him and his nurse. Those are the only people I EVER see and they have gotten me in ASAP when I have needed them. He also delivers all of his own patients so you aren't at the mercy of whomever is on call.

Just a thought girly!! I hope the cramps and stuff go away. I JUST NOW finally stopped cramping and spotting, so I know how nervous it can make you.

The cramps have mostly gone away. They have been very mild and it more so just feels like lower back pain (I have that all the time, even before pregnancy).

And we're on Tricare Prime because of our kids. Ha. Their dr appts before were $50 per kid for every check up. And they have their bdays a month a part, plus my younger one was still going in every few months after we had moved here. And I wasn't pregnant ha ha.

But the nurses are nice and some drs are (as long as I don't get the one male dr EVER again that did an exam to confirm my m/c back in April...but that's another story...pretty much he was a jerk who rushed through everything, scared me into thinking I was having an eptiotic pregnancy, then told me to go home and they'd call the next day...and Oh yes I complained hard core ha ha). This time around, all the people I've dealt with have been really nice. I just don't wanna end up at the ER because the one dr (usually the night one) won't ever do an u/s and doesn't like doing exams.

Anyway, I have been drinking a lot of fluids and trying not to move as much today just in case. I've had spotting before after sex which freaked me out (husband had to calm me down). So far there hasn't been any spotting. Every time I've gone to the bathroom I've checked. I'm hoping tomorrow I'm better because I hate worrying.

So were you on Standard before? The only time I paid that much it was like $40 (I think 20% of the bill each time we went. Some were like $15, some $20) and it was only until we met our $300 family deductible. Then after that I haven't paid anything the rest of the year. Of course, the new fiscal year, it will start the deductible over, but once we meet it, then we are good to go again.

I'm glad you are feeling better and there hasn't been any spotting.
