Daily weight checks

UGH can I just say how physically and emotionally draining it is, to have to go in for daily weight checks, since Elijah kept losing weight. He was born at 9lb3oz, and as of yesterday, he was down to 8lb1oz. I've been doing EVERYTHING, including dietary supplements, eating oatmeal, drinking more water, really giving him time to latch on (since I had to start supplementing with formula and pumped BM due to low supply, and he is lazy to latch on now), the list goes on. DH and I have hardly slept, and been on pins & needles over little man's weight. After supplementing even more, and allowing less time between feedings, he weighed in at 8lb9oz today. How could he have gained half a pound in one day!?! HOLY CRAP! Now I just need to work on my supply even more. Once the Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle kick in, and I start smelling like a breakfast restaurant (side effect of the supplements), hopefully I'll be producing gallons & not need the formula. I hate how much the formula stains and smells, compared to BM. Beee *phew*

I also have other stress going on, with the new school term, and my ex-husband throwing our parenting arrangements for a loop, after almost being ready to give up all custody/rights. LONGGGG story, but I'm hoping he's made changes for the better, instead of trying to be a control freak, which is my biggest concern for his change of heart..

Wow he did gain a lot in a day! That's good though! Hopefully he keeps that up!

I agree about formula and BM...I remember with my girls how much I hated the smell of their clothes or the spit up rag, but with DS he still smells really nice, even when he spits it on his clothes. Plus it's sort of comforting that I smell the same as my son (when I leak all over lol).

Have you tried coconut water? I've also seen a recipe for Lactation Cookies. I hope that you're able to get your supply up. Also, I think stress can lower your supply. See if DH will let you sleep some, even if it's just naps in between feedings. To me, it seems like after I get a few hours in my boobs feel like they're going to burst. Also, I've really upped my water intake.

Hope everything works out the way you want it to!

Is this like... buy a coconut & just drink the water, or is it different than coconut milk, and just put in things? I am actually kind of excited, because I just pumped 2.5oz in one sitting, instead of the normal 1-1.5 (or 2, first thing in the morning). I REALLY hope this means a turn for the better with my supply!

Also, DH is a SAINT! I had pumped BM, and he let me sleep through one of the feedings last night, so I felt a little more rested this morning. Of course, it feels like a drop in the bucket, but at least it's something!

I don't know anything about coconut water in terms of increasing milk supply, but since you asked, coconut water and coconut milk are different things. You can buy coconut water at some grocery stores now. You drink the water straight, you don't mix it in anything. I personally LOVE coconut water, yum.

Also, have you tried Mother's Milk tea? I used that for a while and it really worked for me. And yeah, make sure you drink tons of water.

Good luck!

Coconut water is different from coconut milk. You can order it offline or look at your grocery store. I found some in the aisle wit oriental foods. (I can't remember what it's called!) But I got two cans to try and they're pretty good.

And yay for DH being awesome and letting you sleep! I love when mine does that!

But Yahoo for pumping 2.5 oz! I prefer to eat lots of oatmeal, in cookie form Smile

I feel your pain, we've got our 4th weight check on Monday.

Glad it seems like things are picking up for you. Sounds like he is on the right track.

I ordered some fenugreek today. Should I try Blessed thistle too?

Mother's Milk Tea tastes like black licorice to me, which I cannot stand, and my LC said that the combo of my supplements is the same mix of active ingredients. The Fenugreek starts at 1000mg/day and going up to 6000mg/day, broken up into 3 doses a day. The Blessed Thistle, if taken alone, is up to 6000mg/day, broken up into 3 doses a day. Blessed Thistle, when combined with Fenugreek, 2000-3000mg/day. Maybe that can help someone else that has supply issues.. ? Smile

I'm glad he's started gaining weight for you! I can't imagine having to get a baby out of the house every day for a weight check... geez.
