Desmond's weight "problems"

Des had a cold last week so I took him to the dr Friday to make sure he wasn't seriously sick and in need of medicine since the weekend was coming up.
He got weighed 3x. Because they had to keep checking to see if their scales were off. Because he lost 7 oz in the past 3 months. (sigh)

So they wanted to admit him to the hospital to run bloodwork to see why he isn't keeping weight on. I explained that he's very active and crawls all the time but the dr said he shouldn't be losing weight. We got out of having to be admitted because I already have his 9 month check up scheduled for the 19th. And hopefully he gains weight.

I am suppose to be doing a calorie count to see how much he's eating and I was suppose to pump for 24 hours to see how much I'm producing (But a pump won't show as much as a baby can get out!) and Des won't take a bottle so I dunno how that was suppose to work. I just dunno what to do to please the drs!

He's about 14 1/2 lbs. He doesn't have much interest in solid foods a lot of time unless it's french fries (ha ha) or Cheerios or puffs. Oh and banana. He kind of eats egg yolk and he did have cracker today. But it's not like I can force him to eat! And honestly I haven't been doing the calorie count because I wouldn't know where to start with how little solids he eats and I can't measure how much he nurses (but I know I make enough for him because when he's done I can still squeeze some out if I wanted to!!!)

It's just frustrating.

So hopefully he gains weight by his next appt and they'll be happy but right now I wouldn't hold my breath.

well I was going to google and try help but after first page I'm annoyed (for myself and for you). For me I'm annoyed b/c a lactation consultant wrote that you can tell if bf baby is getting enough milk by having at least 3 poopy diapers in a 24hr period. Ummm no bf contains exactly what baby needs and there is not always lots left to poop out. Adam poops every 7-10 days and he is definitely gaining weight. Ped even said this was ok for bf

so after that frustration I'm sorry I wish I knew some answers. I totally understand the frustration though. I don't remember did you find your weight info for the girls?

My girls were about the same height and weight as Desmond when they were growing. And they were FF.

And Desmond poops anywhere between once to four times a day or sometimes he doesn't poop at all for 2-3 days ha ha. But it also all depends on what he actually eats.

When I told my husband about it, he actually got really mad. He usually always agrees with the drs and says let them do their job, but he was furious because of how strong Des is and said that they need to realize not everyone is going to have a chunky baby. I just produce skinny little things ha ha.

well then he seems to be pooping enough according to that LC Smile

Are Dr's willing to be more open? Like look at other things not just weight? Is he getting taller? They can question all his milestones which he seems to be hitting?
What kind of tests do they want to run? Can tests be run without being admitted?

Honestly, I have no idea. What they told me was they're looking at the "bigger picture" that maybe there's something wrong. They're glad he's hitting his milestones but they're worried that if he doesn't keep growing/barely growing then his brain isn't going to grow and then he's going to have problems.

They want to admit him to the hospital (most likely Naval, but I could be wrong...they may wanna send us 1 1/2-2 hours away) and do blood work. I'm guessing they would want me to stay there and wait for results which is why they would wanna admit him. :/ Although I thought Naval usually liked to send you for blood work and then make you wait 48 hours for results ha ha.

I've been trying new things for him to eat. Right now he really likes Vanilla Waffers lol. I tried oatmeal and he wouldn't eat more than 2 spoonfuls, I made him apple pancakes which he ate 1/2 of one (but they're not very big), and he ate 2 noodles. I bet if he could, he would eat only french fries lol.

He's still nursing good. And I still haven't been doing the calorie count like I should be haha.

I hope the bloodwork goods well and that he does start gaining weight.
