So I had my 17 week appointment today and the Dr. wanted to do a growth check with a sonogram. The baby is right on track and just happened to have its legs spread wide!! Soo, as best we could see, there was no ding a ling (as my Dr. put it)!!! My actual anatomy scan is scheduled for Dec. 1 and we'll be able to see everything better. But omg it's more than likely a girl!!!!!
Soo, my husband wants to take the day off to go with me in three weeks for the anatomy scan, so I hope he's not dissapointed that I found out ahead of time. I'll be talking to him soon when he goes to lunch, but I dont know if I want to tell him then, or if I want to surprise him tonight. What do you ladies think? If you think I should surprise him, what should I do??
When I was pregnant with DD2 I went in for my first appt (I didn't have insurance and had to wait for it to kick in, so I was around 5 months when I went in) and I had an u/s. I didn't know I was going to have one so when the dr asked if I wanted to know the sex I said yes. Once she told me I was having another girl (DD1 threw her arms in the air and yelled "Yes another girl for my kingdom!" ha ha) I wanted DH (only DBF at that time) to know first.
After our appt was over, I drove the 30-45 minutes to his job and asked if he could take lunch and he was luckily able to. I showed him the u/s pictures and told him we were having a girl. He was so excited. I think he liked it better that he got to see the pictures and being told in person.
Did you get any pictures?
Yay for a healthy little (most likely) girl! That's very exciting that you got to have that scan and that she was showing her (lack of) goods!

Well, I feel bad, but I couldn't wait to tell someone and I wasnt going to be able to talk to my husband until now (appt was a few hours ago) so I called my step dad and told him cuz I knew he wouldnt tell anyone.
I did get pictures, but none were of the baby parts (or lack of) lol. I understand that the little boy parts could be hidden, but this was a pretty good shot, and the Dr. sounded pretty confident that it's a girl, and since this is our first child, I really want to surprise him. I know he'll really enjoy seeing the baby and the confirmed sex at the next appointment, but I really want to surprise him now since I know!
It's too bad also that the actual anatomy scan isnt until Dec. 1 because we're having literally almost the whole family over for Thanksgiving. I dont know if I want to jinx it though and tell everyone early.
Congrats on a good appointment. A little girl, how exciting!

Yea congrats, there is less of a chance in mistaking a girl for a boy then the other way around. I think I would go ahead and surprise him now. If you wanted to tell everyone at Thanksgiving I would say we are 80%-90% sure it is a girl... but never know
With DS he wouldn't show his goods for anything we kept thinking we were seeing something but not 100% sure, we went ahead and told everyone it was a boy because we thought we were sure he was but there was always that chance. We ended up not knowing for sure until 28 weeks.
So exciting!! I'm guessing you also weren't able to see those tell-tale little "3 lines" either? My u/s tech knew we were having a girl based more off the presence of those 3 lines (like an equals sign with one extra line) than the lack of boy parts.
Yay for an exciting appt.!
Totally suprise him now instead of waiting until Dec. 1. It would be cute to find a little shirt or onesie that said "Daddy's Girl" or something like that. Wrap it up and give it to him as a little gift.

I totally vote for telling him in person with the picture, even if it's not a money shot pic. On the family end, I'd probably tell, but that's only because I'm horrible at keeping secrets like that, I can't ever hold on to it for very long.
Congrats on team PINK!! How awesome!
Fittoac (is it Jennifer?) I dont even know what the "3 lines" are! Lol But no, that was not mentioned, so I guess thats good news!
So, it was really hard, especially when Chris called me earlier and was asking about the sonogram and asked if I could see "anything" and it was so hard to lie to him! LOL But alas, I was able to tell a good enough lie to get him off my back about it!
So I decided to get a cute little "Just Because" card and I bought some cute pink newborn socks and put them inside the card. The card says on the outside, "Hello. I love you.," and on the inside it says, "Hi, I still love you," and then below it I wrote, "Oh hey, one more thing...IT'S A GIRL!!." I think he'll be pretty surprised. And that card matches us perfectly, because we're that simple yet silly couple that says stuff like that.
And Anna, I'm gonna have a hard time keeping it from everyone at Thanksgiving, even if it's not a 100% yes to being a girl, but it will be hard keeping it from 20 people, so I'm talk my husband into letting us tell everyone then!! And like KET_2010 said, I'm just going to say that is about an 80-90% chance.
So yay, I guess this is me saying add me to Team Pink!!!
Thanks for all the input ladies!
I love your card idea!! That is so cute! You have to tell us his reaction!!
My name is Ali, BTW. The 3 lines are basically the vagina... the two labia with the crease in the middle l l l <---- that's my awesome drawing. It was super obvious in my anatomy scan and the tech saw it right away... I'd never heard of that and never in a million years would've known what I was looking at without her explaining it, so don't feel too clueless!!
