Flashing Red Lights in vision

Okay, so off an on the past few weeks I get flashing red lights in my vision. Not in my direct vision but in the corners of my eyes, and the top and bottom. It's almost like little lightening bugs flashing real fast and flying around. It lasts about 10-30 seconds. I don't get light headed during it. It happens just when I'm standing and doing something (for example while I was taking a shower today) or even if I'm just sitting on the couch.

I looked up and read about pre-eclampsia but I honestly don't think it's that since I don't have any other symptoms of it. I have my next appt Friday and every other time I've gone, I've forgotten to ask the dr about it.

Any ideas on what it could be?

As long as you don't have protein showing up in your urine there isn't anything to worry about. I have been having "sparkles" for a few weeks now. It comes from your bp dropping or rising suddenly. I would mention it to your ob just to be on the safe side there is a test they can do to see if your at risk of developing PreE...

Yes, you may also notice more of them when you go hang out on the toilet --- I call them floaties lol

Kelly is right, as long as your BP is okay then those are okay too.

oh and allergies/colds and anything that can cause increased pressure (like extra mucous or blood vessels being a little swollen) can cause them too.

I've been having sparkles too. Usually when bending over and then going upright or getting up too fast. It happened in my past pregnancies as well. I would think maybe its a change in BP too but its doesn't hurt to mention it to your OB at your appt. friday.

I've off & on had a few symptoms that could be related to high BP, low blood sugar, etc. The fact that it's only 1 or 2 given things in a given day, they have always brushed off. I hope it turns out to be nothing!

I've been having the same thing occasionally, but I'm sure it is from my already low blood pressure dropping even lower from time to time. Hope you're feeling better and don't forget to let us know how your appt goes on Friday!
