Healthy accountability thread -WEEK ONE

After reading Nicole (Dixiemom) starting week3 of couch to 5k program (WTG) and myself just getting clearance to start up again I thought maybe others were working on either losing weight or even just getting back to pre-preg mode.

I thought I'd start a thread to keep us accountable (or maybe just myself)

hmm let's see (I started this post probably 12hrs ago so I'm forgetting my questions, please add anything and I'll answer too

Happy with weight? If not how much do you want to lose?
What are you currently doing to get to or maintain your goal?
What are you plan to get to start to get to your goal?
Any struggles you're working with?
Anything else?

Happy with weight? If not how much do you want to lose? not yet,20 to start (pre-pg) but goal is 30

What are you currently doing to get to or maintain your goal? I started yoga but only got 2 in before I got thrush and bad boob pain so I stopped grr so I did "start" but need to start again

What are you plan to get to start to get to your goal? Just got permission to slowly start running, need to find temp running bra but I plan to start this week. I did the Couch to 5k before and I'll likely do again. I have a 5k race scheduled for Sept

Any struggles you're working with? Can't stop eating choc

Anything else? I need to work on my diet too, really want to start eating better and more scheduled. It's funny when I'm at work I HAVE to eat breakfast early, I had mid-day snack and I'm hungry by lunch. Now I eat breakfast but a bit later than workdays, I don't have midday snack and I often forget lunch (and then end up with migraine if I'm not careful)

Eh I guess. I think I was 120 last dr appt which isn't bad. If I went back down to 110 I would be happy too.

Lol honestly? Not much. I've been too sad to do anything, just really missing DH (but he comes back this week Smile ) I do have an elliptical now though AND a stepper (that I got for $7!!!) and a wheel thing to help work my abs (can't remember what it's called) I also got two work out DVDs that I read are great to help start getting in shape (The Jillian Michaels ones I think they're called) and I need to start doing those...lol I have all the stuff I just need motivation!!!

What are you plan to get to start to get to your goal?
I've got the exercise stuff, now I need the motivation!

Any struggles you're working with?
I really wanna make the belly flub go away lol. I just need motivation to do it. Oh and I can't help but drink soda and eat junk food...oops!

Anything else?
Hopefully when DH comes home this week (sometime between Wed and Saturday) he can motivate me and encourage me to work out.

Happy with weight? If not how much do you want to lose? Nope, not happy. I want to lose at least another 30 but could stant do lose probably 50. I am at pre-prego weight, but still need to lose a lot more.
What are you currently doing to get to or maintain your goal? We have a home gym so I've been in there. My main focus now is on cardio because I read something that said resistance training can cause lactic acid to get into your breast milk which can make babies fussier.
What are you plan to get to start to get to your goal? I just started about a week ago, but I hope to stick with it.
Any struggles you're working with? Having a toddler and an infant. It's so hard to find time to be able to really work out when they won't nap at the same time or they get fussy as soon as I get on the treadmill.
Anything else?
I'm glad that someone started this, and I hope it helps me. Are we going to do a weekly check-in to update on our progress?

Happy with weight? If not how much do you want to lose? Not at all. I lost all the baby weight, but I was overweight to start with. I'd like to lose and keep off another 25 pounds.

What are you currently doing to get to or maintain your goal? Sadly, absolutely nothing. I decided that since I had GD and had to be so strict about what I ate for 4 months, that I'd cut myself some slack while I was on maternity leave. I go back to work in 3.5 weeks though. I'll start then.

What are you plan to get to start to get to your goal? I'm going to go back to the gestational diabetes diet, minus a few of the snacks. Once I started it during pregnancy I didn't gain any weight, so when I cut some of the calories out I should start losing, since I'm breastfeeding.

Any struggles you're working with? Finding time to exercise and eat healthy with 2 kids and a full time job seems daunting. I won't be able to walk at lunchtime at work, because I'll be pumping. Fitting in the exercise... ugh.

Anything else? I didn't lose my baby weight from DS1 until he was about 1.5, and I lost another 20 pounds on top of that... then sadly I gained it all back again before I got pregnant the 2nd time. This time when it's gone, I need to make sure it's gone for good. I don't want to yo-yo diet the rest of my life.

My goals are very similar to Daria's.

Happy with weight? If not how much do you want to lose?
I'm back to my pre-DD2 weight. I'm about 20 lbs higher than my best weight in college. That's my goal.

What are you currently doing to get to or maintain your goal?
Trying to eat sensibly and not use BFing as an excuse to pig out. Going for half-hour walks with the stroller after dinner.

What are you plan to get to start to get to your goal?
Got my bike tuned up. When I go back to work I want to commute by bike.

Any struggles you're working with?
I never lost the last 10 lbs after DD1. That'll be the hardest 10 lbs to lose.

Happy with weight? If not how much do you want to lose? . No, I would like to lose about 30lbs. I am about 5 lbs above pre- pregnancy.

What are you currently doing to get to or maintain your goal? Right now I am focusing on my Couch to 5k program and running my first 5k race in September. I am not dieting but "trying" not to eat too much junk. I hope to lose a few pounds this way. When we are done breast feeding I will focus on dieting and losing the extra weight. I have a very hard time losing weight while BFing.

What are you plan to get to start to get to your goal? . I hope to start dieting after Christmas, even if we are not done BFing.

Any struggles you're working with?. I eat way too many Candies, luckily DD is almost done potty training then the candies can stay out of our house. I also need to not eat soo often during the day but just at regularly scheduled times.

Anything else?. A thread like this is good. We have a Facebook page for a group of us who are working to the same runin September and it is inspiring. I think checking in here often will hopefully help encourage each other to keep going.

If anyone is looking for a good way to start running a couch to 5k program is awesome. I hated running (even when I played Basketball in college) but I am learning to enjoy it. I usually have to run in the early morning whenDH is still home, I do not love that but the hardest part is getting out of bed after that is feels really good to acomplish the goal.

ditto Nicole C25k is awesome, I did it a few years ago when I re-started running, I kept going and ended up the training with a 10k in the spring and ended up doing a half marathon by the fall. I will start again there but just planning a 5k in the fall (well two b/c I always do the breast cancer run for my mom who's a 3yr survivor so far)

weekly sounds good

I saw a fb group RunWithJess and am signing up for her "lose a marathon" challenge (aka lose 26.1 lbs). It just started this week so perfect timing and you can sign up until Monday

Going shopping tonight hopefully (or maybe Thurs) but planning my first run on Friday (it's 40 deg Cel here until then)....hmmm I have half an hour before soccer starts (gotta cheer on England), maybe I'll go do a yoga

Just completed week 4 of the couch to 5k. Was very tired and did not want to get out of bed this morning but I did and it felt good to accomplish my goal. Only 5 wks to go. Next week I have to run for 20 mins straight. That will be a step up from the walk/ runs I have been doing but I think I will be able to do it.

I have lost a pound or 2 but not too much, I am not concentrating on my eating at the moment so whatever I lose is a bonus.

I have totally fallen off my "eat sensibly and exercise" plan this week. I was an idiot and let DH fly to another state for 5 days, leaving me alone to take care of the kids. 2.5 days down, 2.5 days to go. I haven't stepped on the scale since he left. He owes me when he gets back.

week 1 over how's everyone doing?
I was planning to start c25k again but felt good so just decided to go for it and see how I do. I ran 3k without stopping so excited and my pace was pretty close to where I left off (aka very slow) hopefully I can start to build on that and get faster.
Going again today, I took 2 days off....planning just one but my hips were still sore yesterday. I should've done yoga but we were out ALL day saturday and yesterday I was feeling blah (yes yes I know even more reason sigh)

Nicole you have got this 20min run Smile No problem!

Ket2010 ....120! wow Yay on your awesome finds (and even more great is dh coming home)

Anna that's interesting about the lactic acid. Had a quick look and found a few thoughts. One is that not issues. Other was that it's only in there for a short while so if you feed before you workout it should be fine. Ditto one fussing as soon as you start ugh they sure have great timing. I'm lucky that I have extra help in the house. I've decided that if I want to workout I'm going to, I feed Adam and them pass him to dh and will go for a run. I'll never leave for that long and never without feeding him but still I need this attitude or I'll never workout.

Daria that sucks about going back to work Sad good luck with your gd diet again

Laura how are you doing? is dh back today?

***question...
do you want to continue in this thread? or start new ones each week?
what are your plans for the week

I haven't been excercising formally, but have been chasing after my kids... definitely need some inspiration to get out and move more!

This weekend we went for a 5km hike on the beaches... it was gorgeous, but it took us nearly 5 hours since we were checking out shells, and driftwood and seaweed (and we stopped to roast marshmellows!!) Didn't get the heartrate up, but at least we were outside and active!! Going to try even harder to get out and be more active with them this week!

This week I am finishing week 5 of my C25K. That means a 20 minute straight run, no stopping. It will be tough but I am sure I can do it. The most I have done so far is 8 mins straight and 16 mins total so is it a bit of a step up. I am also helping a friend be motivated with her C25K, so I will run a wk 2 run with her. Jamie and I have started having date nights on Mondays. Which means my parents take the kids and we do a run and play some tennis, this has been fun. Yesterday was our second one. We get a chance to connect and be active together. We are only gone for 2 hrs at the most and Emma will take a bottle if she needs it. I am down 2lbs which is good especially since I am not really watching what I eat. We go camping this weekend so hopefully I can get a run in there.

DH got home late Saturday night and Sunday we took the kids to the water park.

We want to try and get out every weekend and do things. It'll be nicer once we have the garage sale because we're turning the garage into a workout place. We've got weights and the machines out there and we plan on working out together once the kids are asleep for the night. I'm excited!

I definitely think we should have a weekly thread.

I've been eating AWFUL. One good thing about going back to work in a couple weeks is that with 2 kids in daycare I won't be able to afford to eat out, so I'll be forced to cook healthier meals.
