Help, so itchy!!

My belly is itchy like you wouldn't believe. It flares up often and it borders on pain. I swear, when I was driving to work this morning, I was worried I'd have an accident because of how crazy it made me. I'm pretty sure the itchiness is from my skin stretching - the angry red lines that I scratch will probably become stretch marks, because that's what happened with my DD.

I've tried different lotions, oils. I can't figure out if any of them work best. Weirdly, the generic baby oil I got from Target seemed to make it extra horrible, so I stopped using that asap.

Any advice? Thanks!

I've been just applying layers of lotion on mine when it gets real itchy because honestly, I have a bad habit of scratching. I actually got some stuff from the dollar store that was a thick kinda creamy lotion. It's got cocoa butter in it too which is suppose to be good for stretch marks to fade (supposedly!) I think it also had vaseline in it. I don't remember because I lost it (I swear I lose so many things) but it was in near the baby stuff...like the shampoo, baby bath wash, teething gel. I think it's meant for babies' skin but I used it on my belly. Also, out here in the desert my kids have gotten real bad dry skin and we were give hydrophor. We were told to mix this with hydrocortisone to help, and it seems to. So you can try that combo (dr recommended lol) and hopefully that'll help (DD2 was itching her dry skin and stopped after the combo was put on her).
A warning though...the hydrophor is real greasy but it's suppose to help lock in moisture. I put it on my hands and arms (which get real dry too) and it helps. Although then I feel like a grease ball lol.

Thanks, I'll try out the hydrophor stuff. I will prefer feeling all greasy to looking and feeling like a creature with fleas Smile

Depending on how horrible the itching is... and do you have any open spots/almost zit-like on the stretch marks? I had PUPPP http://www.webmd.com/baby/skin-conditions-pregnancy which was more itching than spots, but OMGOODNESS it felt like eternal torture! I would mention it to your doc at your next appt (if you can hold out that long) if nothing else helps it.

I have the tiny bumps/zits in my stretchmarks this time around again, but not as itchy. I remember the beginning of this pregnancy, MASSIVE itching for no explainable reason. UGH!

I would mention it to the doc regardless, JIC. I know that severe itching can be a sign of other things, like Amanda mentioned. Otherwise, I was going to suggest a calamine lotion or hydracortisone cream, maybe. I had itching in my feet that was pure torture for the first trimester with DD and nothing helped it. Luckily it went away after the first trimester.

Thanks ladies. I will mention it next week. I don't have any bumps at all, my belly skin feels completely smooth. The itchiness goes up and down. It's pretty bad right now and I'm at work, trying to be discreet about it. Ugh.
