Just curious if anyone homeschools? My daughter is set to enter kindergarten next year, but I have been thinking about homeschooling....
We're homeschoolers. If you want resources or need any help let me know, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions
Not homeschoolers but I have to say I admire anyone who can do it. I need the break from the kids and the kids need the break from me.
I'm not a homeschooler but I do teach so I would love to help out if you need ideas. if I could afford to be a SAHM I would definately homeschool my kids. I think as long as they are involved in other activities that allow them social interaction it's a great idea.
I'm a full-time student myself (until next summer anyway), so my daughter is in public school kindergarten. I would like to do home school, I just won't be able to entertain that idea at all until I am done. It will also be determined by what kind of job I get into. I'll hopefully be able to work from home, at least part-time, as a freelance journalist, or I've considered completed my medical billing & coding certification too. Still not 100% confident what my future holds, and how that will translate to our future/lifestyle.
We're homeschoolers.... I can say I've been at it for the last 7 years! There's so many good resources out there and so many different ways of homeschooling. Check into your library for a book on homeschooling, that was my biggest help at the very beginning just trying to figure out all the ins and outs.
And kindergarten is a piece of cake!!! I look back and I stressed sooo much with my first two and I laugh at myself. Yes, you can teach your own kid how to read! Yes, you can teach them their shapes, colors, how to write their name and memorize their phone number! You can do if you want to!
I am just on the fence... Today was actually the day for kindergarten registration, so I did register her at the local public school which does have a good reputation. I just have a bunch of concerns, but we won't know until it gets rolling. Kindergarten here is all day, so it is going to be a huge change. Right now her preschool is three mornings a week for 2.5 hours.. that is far from all day everyday. But I don't know if it is my issue that I want to keep my baby or if it is actually going to be alot. The one good thing is that kindergarten isn't mandatory so if she doesn't want to go... she doesn't go!! She is such a creative, out of the box thinker, I don't want her to have to conform. (Which is really funny since when she does a puppet show at her puppet theatre, she tells me she is going to go "conform" for me!!) She gets such neat ideas, and if I just let her run with it, she has really interesting outcomes... Like today she decided to add food colouring to glue and use Q-tips to paint pictures, and they look awesome!! But in a big class there are rules and schedules that won't give her the freedom to explore.... or maybe it will just be a greater chance to explore because she will have access to a greater range on materials. I don't know... I did go so far as to check out the kindergarten curriculum, and she can do everything expected to move to grade 1 (she can read simple books, do simple addition, subtraction, etc) except she can only count to 40...which really is just a matter of memorizing the 10's since she gets the idea.
Ohhh.. what to do, what to do.... and I am a SAHM so I feel like I have no excuse not to, but I also know how much she loves being with friends and gets lonely just with me....
SO anyways... there is my ramblings... hopefully I will be feeling better about all this come September no matter which way we choose..
