Lactating? Anyone else?

This is my 3rd and I'm already lactating. Anyone else experiencing early lactation? I mean, I always got some here and there before but this is ridiculous. I actually accidentally shot my dog with a gush of milk while changing!

Do I leave it in there? Am I supposed to pump it out? I know they say it's not good to breastfeed during pregnancy so I am confused! LOL

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Think I should call the MW and ask?

Leave it alone. Stimulating your nipples can cause your uterus to contract and may trigger early labor. Most sources I've looked at strongly recommend not stimulating the nipples until you are at a point in pregnancy where its safe to go into labor. Some women do breastfeed successfully throughout pregnancy, but if you aren't breastfeeding, I say just leave it alone to be on the safe side.

I know I'm leaking a bit, but it's definitely not the squirt across the room scenario. I just get crusty on my nips some days.

Thanks Anna,

I know they say nip stimulation can cause contractions, just wasn't sure how much or what exactly to do if my milk decides to come in full force or something. I certainly was NOT expecting milk to shoot out of my boob! I was never even able to do that while breastfeeding and having a full milk supply!LOL

It wasn't totally white, but it wasn't just colostrum either HAHAHA! I am still laughing about it today.

I had the "crusties" showing up VERY early this pregnancy and random small leaks for weeks now, mostly from my right side. I am looking at this in a positive way though, hoping it means I'll have ample amounts of supply Smile

Guess it's time for nursing pads!

What is it with us women, lucky enough to get 9 months of no AF, but just can't seem to get away from leaking something! UGH!

LOL, I know if I had boobs shooting milk the temptation to pump would be hard to resist! That stuff is precious and I never want to waste any. I don't have any experience with lactating full force while pg, so I'm not sure what the recommendations are in your case but I do know that I've read repeated stern warning against pumping while pg. Some doctors are also pretty forceful in demanding women not breastfeed past 20 weeks pg. However I happen to know several women who breastfed successfully throughout pregnancy and then tandem bf, so nipple stimulation does not necessarily guarantee inducing labor. Maybe it has something to do with established breastfeeding vs. sudden nipple stimulation?

And it's always something for sure. If we get rid of AF there's a tradeoff somewhere else.

I haven't been lactating much, but I get crust on my nipples, which is gross. I remember with my 1st one I shot milk and I was like WTF just happened! Ha ha.

I agree not to pump, although it would be tempting because you could begin your supply early! I actually looked up that question before because I wanted to do it near the end. But hey if any of us wanna go into early labor I guess we could begin pumping lol!

I've been having crusties, but no major leakage yet.

I am fully lactating but that is because I am still nursing my 13 month old. I did have what looked like regular milk by 20 weeks last time and it was abundant but not to the point of needing to express it. Could shoot out though, yes, lol. So odd because I didn't have an abundant supply 5 years earlier with #1. Anyway, when DS2 was born the milk turned much thinner like regular colostrum looks. I don't think you can actually build up your milk supply before LO arrives and I don't think engorgment would be an issue. I'm not an expert but it doesn't seem likely. Personally I wouldn't pump it or express it at this point unless I was lactating from a previous pregnancy and needing it for a LO still nursing.

That being said I still do nurse about 4 times daily and pump 1 time per week without any problems with contractions or pre-term labor thus far. I know most doctors are not for it but have had other advice from MW that say it is fine as long as it feels right for your body. My personal opinion is that nipple stimulation will bring on labor if indeed your body is ready for labor. If I felt like that was happening before I was full term though I would totally not continue to BF or pump.

You could always ask your MW but personally I'd just leave it and not express it.

I haven't leaked much, except when they get really itchy. I have to squeeze, and I get tiny solid milk drops out. They have also been really dry off and on. I really hope I don't spray. UGH I don't look forward to how much I leak while nursing. I sleep with thick PF cloth diapers inside a shelf tank top or something similar, and still wake up with a puddle around me.

LOL To waking up in a puddle. That only happened to me a few times when my kids started sleeping longer! NOT FUN!

I am just gonna leave it alone and see what happens. My mom was telling me I could pump it if I wanted but I'd probably just make more milk much faster (supply on demand thing) and make it worse- of course, I wasn't even thinking of that!
