Might be a Little Early...

...but...
Does anyone know what kind of birth control they're going to use after your LO(s) is/are born?

DH has said that this is our last one. And that he would most likely be the one getting snipped (it's a safer procedure for him to get it done I believe). However, these past few nights he has hinted at a possible 4th in our future! He said if things go smoothly with this one, and that it's not as bad as we think it might be with our 2 year old and the newborn and such that he will consider a 4th (which usually means I can get him to agree ha ha!)

However, with him being military he would be gone a lot during buildups and of course deployments. So we would have to see.

But if he doesn't get snipped then we will probably have me go back on the pill like last time. I was on the mini pill and it worked pretty good I thought. And I sometimes took it late and never ended up pregnant. My only complaint is I didn't like how it made me body feel sometimes (TMI I was very dry down there all the time).

I guess he and I will discuss it more when I get further along.

What about everyone else?

I'm no help b/c since I am having a c/s, I will be getting a tubal. The thought of a vasectomy freaks my poor DH out! ROFL

Ha ha it freaks out my DH too, but the way I see it is that if I'm having the baby the least he can do is get snipped ha ha.

Hormonal BC messes me UP! The only thing I've ever tolerated decently was the Nuvaring, but all of them make me gain/retain weight. I may be getting tubal ligation done, but now DH is talking about wanting another child. Honestly, with finances being up in the air (I am a student, and he is moving here with a CDL.. let's see where that gets him for now lol)... I dunno

I have had a Mirena after both of my other children, I am tempted to do that again. DH has agreed to get snipped... Sp we will see. I hate making a permanent decision.

I have NO IDEA. I dislike hormonal birth controls like the pill or Nuvaring (that's just my own freakiness), but condoms seem like such a bother. This is our first baby, so there won't be any snipping going on just yet. (TBH the idea of me getting a tubal or him getting snipped doesn't sit right with me either, but maybe that's just because I don't have a bunch of kids yet! :p)

Anyone have any ideas? I would consider an IUD, but I'm not sure I love the method in which it prevents pregnancy (i.e. preventing a fertilized egg from implanting). I am just hard to please I guess.

DH has agreed (and wants) to get snipped. I'm Ok with that, but I think I'll get mirena for the first 4 or 5 years, just to make SURE we're done. Then after that time frame, he can have the procedure.

I don't tolerate hormonal BC, and have sworn to never use it again. We aren't sure we are done at 2 so we will likely go with NFP. It wouldn't be the end of the world if we had an oops. Once we are done, I hope to be able to talk DH into the big V, but so far he's refused.

I had Merina before we got preggo with this baby and I will be doing that again after this baby is born. After the 5 years if we still don't want another baby then DH will get snipped.

That was always an issue for us too and we ended up back at condoms every time.

I don't do hormonal BC anymore. It does crazy things to me. There is an IUD called Paragard that I would consider. It's a copper IUD that prevents the sperm from reaching the egg. I haven't done a significant amount of research on it yet, but what I have learned I like so far.

I will be getting a tubal after my c-section. We are both done. DH totally dislikes the idea of getting snipped but if I was not having a c-section he would be the one going. But since they are there already I do not mind.

I did not like being on BC, so after about a year I went off and we went to condom use when I was anywhere near O. It worked well for us but my cycles are very consistent so I was easy to keep track of without tempting or OPKs.

DH HATES using condoms with me. He has only had two partners in his life (his ex of 3 years and me) and he used condoms with her, but after he and I knew we wanted to get married he said he felt closer to me when he didn't. Plus he said he can't really feel much when he wears one, which is why I went on BC.

However it seemed like the longer I was on BC the more my body was like eh. I mean I didn't gain weight or break out, but I'd want it but it was like my body didn't. And I hated that.

And I don't think the pull out method is the best thing for us lol.

I haven't really looked into other forms (yet) such as the IUD or Nuvaring or anything. It would be easier if I could sit down with DH and ask him but since he seems to have recently changed his mind about a possible 4th I know snipping is off the table. Although he usually isn't much help anyway with trying to figure out things, he usually says "Whatever you want" lol.

I got Mirena inserted at my 6 week postpartum checkup and will be doing the same thing this time around. I LOVED it! I had like 3 periods in 2.5 years and they both lasted about 2 days.

This baby will be our last. DH refuses the Big V. I want a VBAC, and even if I end up with a repeat C, I am not getting a tubal.

So, sometime after this baby comes along I'm getting Essure done.

I made a friend of mine be my guinea pig because her husband wouldn't get the V either, and she highly recommends it.

Daria Why do you choose Essure over tubal?? Not judging, just don't know much about either and curious about your reasons?

Essure is 100% effective. Tubal has a chance of failure. (I just saw a very frightening episode of one of the baby shows where a woman's tubes grew back together and she had another baby. No thank you!)

Essure is done in office. No anesthesia, no cutting. Tubal is a surgical procedure.

Essure is also much less expensive, and I'm all for keeping medical costs down. Just the right choice for my family.

Amy- I have the same ethical dilemma with how many hormonal BCs work. Not my thing... When using them in the past, I've tried to focus on ones that prevented ovulation in the first place. I've gotten a natural BC book, that focuses on all the ways to avoid the chemicals. Some of them have some SCARY side effects!
