My appt. today

It wasn't bad but totally uninformative. I got pretty much zero feedback from the OB. He listened to the HB, went over my labs, did a pap with an internal exam, pressed on my tummy, and still told me nothing. Never said a word about anything other than "the dating u/s said there was one baby and I was right about your due date so you are 18w4d today". I'm just floored that he didn't say anything about anything. Not even the heart rate of the baby. So odd. I totally miss having a MW.

I had to have the receptionist ask him if I should have an anatomoy u/s soon since he won't see me for 5 weeks. I'm not finding out the gender but he still should have had me set that up with the office at the end of the appt. since they generally do it between 18-20weeks at this place. I'm totally switching to another practice soon as I can't deliver at the hospital in my town (I had a VBAC with DS2 and plan on another this time) but wanted to wait as long as I could as all the other practices are at least 1 hour away.

Does anyone else have an OB that is this uninformative? I had midwives for both of my previous pregnancies and they were both very informative. I don't know if its just because they were MW or if this guy is just blah. Seems like loads of you ladies get lots of info from your doctors.

Yuck! I'm so sorry your doctor sucks! I'm fortunate-- my OB is the bomb... she tells me info before I could even think to ask a question about it and explains in great detail each appointment, what's being tested for, what's coming up at future appointments, etc. Also always willing to answer any questions I do have and make sure I'm not leaving with anything left unanswered. So yes-- good OBs do exist out there!!

I hope when you switch practices you find a good one!!

Okay, I know that you've told me, but why can you not go with a midwife again?

I think your OB is uninformative to the point of ridiculous!! My OB isn't terribly informative either. He told me my labs look good, baby's heart rate is good and strong. . . stuff like that, no detail. However, he always asks if I have questions and makes sure that all my questions are completely answered.

I think you should switch ASAP since it seems like this one isn't paying much attention if he didn't even realize you needed to get the anatomy u/s done. They do them between 18 and 20 weeks here too.

Sounds like an excellent thing that this guy isn't your permanent physician. YUCK!

We don't have any in the town we live in and we live in a really small town far from a bigger city. I will totally be going with a MW when I start seeing someone out of town for the rest of my care though. Our last MW only does homebirths and right now we can't swing the $4500 out of pocket cost.

The big kicker of the appointment was that he told me I need to stop breastfeeding my 12 month old right now and wean him this coming week. I understand his rational of contactions and preterm labor after 20 weeks, all things that could happen. But I am fully aware of all that and didn't really care for him telling me that I need to stop BFing now. He didn't even ask if it was causing me to have contractions (its not) or if I had a weaning plan. I actually plan to nurse until my LO self weans or my body lets me know that I need to take a break. I've don't and never had problems with preterm labor so I'm not really too worried that my nursing plan will be too much of an issue any time soon. I was just so annoyed at how he even approached the subject and demanded that I stop without even discussing my point of view.

Yeah, you don't need to be seeing him again. Ever. I'm sorry that your OB was such a turd. I wish you could do the homebirth route again, but if not I hope that you find a great midwife.

Small towns have their good points (I grew up in an itty bitty one) but they sure do have their downsides too.

Ewww so sorry your OB sucks! Glad to hear you'll be switching. If you are stuck seeing him again before you can find a new care provider, I would just ask directly -- what is the HR? How does everything look so far? and so on. It's his JOB to inform you of everything. On the other hand, if he found something wrong I'm sure he would have said something especially since OB's are usually extra paranoid.

HUGS!

Why can't you deliver at the hospital in your town?

Well sounds like you need a new OB anyway. If you need to keep seeing him a bit longer I'd just start asking questions "So what's the hb today?" Not that you should have to. How odd that you had to ask for the anatomy u/s, my midwife told me they need to be done 18-20.6days although it seems many of the u/s clinics I called want it to be right around 20

GL, hope your next OB is better and you can find someone that's not that far away

Your OB sounds awful. Sad I'd get out of there as soon as possible. If the lack of information wasn't enough, I'd have been out of there the second he told you to wean. If your body couldn't handle you nursing and being pregnant, your body wouldn't have let you get pregnant while you were nursing.

I hope your next doc is better! I'm assuming this hospital has a ban on VBAC's? I switched practices for the same reason after DS.
