New To The Site

Hello All,

I just got my 1st BFP on August 4th at 5:30 in the am...I thought I was dreaming. I had thought of all these creative ways to tell my husband, but I was so excited that I just showed him the positive test and started to cry.

I had a bit of a POAS addiction for the next few days. I spent some serious dough on HPTs. August 4th was 10 DPO. My first appointment is on the 19th and I am looking forward to reading about all of the other ladies' experiences as I begin this journey for the first time.

Thanks for the Warm Welcome

Thank you ladies for the sweet wishes. Not only is the my first day on this Bulletin Board, it is the experience I have had with a forum like this. I am still trying to figure out how all of this works. Could any of you share your experience with what you value most about this site?

Thanks,
Danielle

Welcome! I look forward to getting to know you!

I love this site, I am just coming back from a 2 year break, but I was on this site during my last pregnancy. It was great to have a bunch of girls to talk to that were going through the same thing as me at the same time. This is my 3rd pregnancy so I probably won't have as many questions this time around, but for 1st timers it is nice because you have some of us that has been right where you are now and can help for little things.

I'm just lurking cause I love to see the excitement that bubbles up on a newly established birth board (BB). When I first came to pg.org it was my very first experience with a forum of any sort. I love it here! The women here are so knowledgable, there are boards for just about everything you could ever need (don't forget to take a look around the other boards) and the birth boards become like family. Our October 2010 birth board is going strong and we have all become so close that when I talk about a certain person, my husband (DH) knows who she is and which child is hers Smile There are so many women here with such diverse backgrounds that almost every experience has been had by someone and they are able to provide you with some ideas or information.

Good luck and have a wonderful and healthy pregnancy!

Welcome! I'm not quite in April yet, but I'm hoping to land here. Smile

I joined preg.org a year and a half ago and was kind of wary because I had no experience with any kind of forum like this before. To this point, preg.org is the only one like this that I'm a member of.
Here's my favorite benefits of being a part of a forum like this:

1. Support.
Here's a place where you can find women who are going through the same situations as you who can offer understanding, support, and comfort. It's a place you can go to vent frustrations where you won't be judged or reprimanded for your feelings. When I had my miscarriage in May, I received so much support from the friends I've made on this site. It was very encouraging to me.

2. Knowledge.
I learned so much from the other ladies on my daughter's birth board. I really wanted to have a natural childbirth, and the friends I made helped me make that possible. It's a place to share ideas and insights.

Hi,

I'm currently on the Jan 2012 birth board, but I wanted to throw my two cents in. I've been on this site for 4 years now. I completely agree with what the others have already said regarding knowledge and support. And the long-lasting bonds we develop with one another. But what I find so remarkable about this site is how kind and accepting everyone is. I've lurked on other forums, and am always thankful for my pg.org when I read all the fights that develop between people who are supposedly there to support each other. I have so rarely seen this here. I don't know how this is, but there is a culture of respect here that I believe is extremely rare.

And so, welcome, and congratulations!

Thanks For The Wonderful Guidance

WOW, from what I am reading their is some serious loyaly to this site and forum. Looks like I found the best one. I think I just need a tutorial or just some time to figure out how it all works.

I am eagerly anitcipating my first pre-natal visit on the 19th. I have read a little on "what to expect" with this visit. But, could anyone share their story?

Thanks Again

Hi Danielle

Welcome to POrg and congrats on your big fat positive!!! The ladies here are the best around, friendly, helpful, supportive.... what more could you want at a time like this? Smile

I joined in Nov 07 when I got my BFP and I have stuck around ever since. There are so many different boards here, you don't have to be pregnant to join in Wink

I'm not sure how your first appt will go if you're in the US, but here in the UK they would take all your stats ie family history regarding illnesses, weight, height etc.

I hope that helps a little and I hope you stick around for the long haul Smile

xx

Yes, there is serious loyalty to these boards! Smile I joined Jan 09 when I found out I was pregnant with my first and I've been here ever since. I'm friends with a handful of my Jan 09 friends on Facebook and feel like I know them in real life, though we've never met. Pg.org is a great place to share and support (and be supported) during your pregnancy. I feel like it's especially so during your first pregnancy-- you're so clueless and have so many questions, ya know? It's great to have fifty other mommies waiting to throw in their 2 cents when you have a question!

As for your first doctor's appointment, it depends on how many weeks along you are. Looks like you'll be about 5.5.... I'm not sure if that'll be early enough to do an ultrasound, but maybe?? My doc doesn't typically do ultrasounds til 7 weeks... I think because there's not much to see before then. (No heartbeat). Anyway, if they do do an ultrasound, you should be able to see the gestational sac and the yolk sac, but probably no baby.

Ultrasounds aside, they'll confirm your pregnancy through a urine sample and the doc will ask all kinds of questions about your history/family history etc. They'll take your vitals and all that good stuff. This early on, the doctor's appointments are pretty unremarkable. But the first time they do a doppler or ultrasound and you hear that heartbeat!? AMAZING!!

Hope this is helpful to you!!
