I am 40w1d along now and had my checkup this morning. They did an ultrasound to check fluid levels and make sure all is well. Everything looked good except the baby's movement was extremely minimal, which I've known about for the last week or so. He still moves, but very little compared to the rest of the pregnancy. I just chalked this up as normal since I know he doesn't have much room in there, but the ultrasound tech tried for 10 straight minutes to get him to move by jostling my belly, having me roll from side to side, and ultimately using a "taser" (not really, obviously.... it's like a loud vibrating buzzer) on my belly, and despite it all, he barely responded to anything! She said he moved just enough to "pass," but that she wasn't impressed. If he hadn't passed, I would have been admitted straight to the hospital for an induction. Sooo glad he passed cuz I had absolutely nothing with me!!
Anyhoo, when the doctor checked me, I was still 3cm dilated (same as last week) and we discussed our options and decided to have her strip my membranes. I was really nervous because I've heard it can be really painful and possibly not even effective, but I'm glad I had her do it. I felt absolutely no pain, only the same discomfort of a regular cervical check, and the whole thing lasted about 10 seconds. And in even better news, when she did it my cervix immediately dilated to 4cm! Yahoo! It's been about 3 hours since then and I've had a little cramping, but nothing to complain about. Phew!
Due to his lack of movement, she is not comfortable letting me carry on til who-knows-when, so she scheduled an induction for Thursday at 6am. That being said, my doctor really thinks I'll go into labor on my own in the next 24 hours, but Thursday will be go time if nothing happens by then. I'm PRAYING I'll go on my own because I really want an unmedicated birth again and I know my chances of being able to avoid an epidural w/an induction are slim. Not to mention, I REALLY want the freedom to be able to labor at home where I can eat and drink freely until it's time to head to the hospital!!
So there's my update-- I am SO SO excited that I now know I will be meeting my son in 2 days at the most!! Things are getting very real, ladies!!! Eeee!!
well glad he passed so you could go home and get sorted but hope the labour starts soon, are you doing anything to keep up the contractions like walking?
